Very Interesting. Apparently a utah woman (Sophia Stewart) is suing Warner Brothers because they stole her story and plagiarized it to create the matrix.
I first heard of this on Friday. The radio show I listen to was talking to a local film critic and they brought up the subject of a news article they had read. They talked about how "crazy" it was and did a shoutout for either the author or a relative or something to call them and talk about it. Interestingly enough, within a few minutes they got a phone call from her and they interviewed her. Apparently, the original title of the story was called "The Third Eye." She sent several copies of the story to film studios but no one seemed interested. It was then that she sent a copy of the story, synopsis, treatment, character profiles ect. to the Wachowski Brothers I can't quite remember why she sent this stuff to them, I think it was to get help with the comic book or something, I dunno. It was then, allegedly that the brothers stole her work from her, changed the name, ect. and turned it into a movie. She had no idea this had happened until she went to see the Matrix only to find out that it was her work up on screen. She then started writing letters to the Studio, the Brothers, lawyers, ect. Asking them to give her credit for her work. They basically blew her off until she decided to take it to court. They then try to settle with her, however several employee's told her to hold out. So she decide to take it to federal court, and because she had copyrights for her work, the feds are backing her up. (This is basically what I got from the first interview, very interesting indeed. I wish I had thought of Recording it)
Intrigued, I scoured the net that day trying to find the article they were referring to, only to fail (blast you Time-Warner!). I then e-mailed Frankie (one of the DJ's) asking him to post the article.
On Monday, I listened to the show, as usual only to receive a surprise. They were going to have Sophia Stewart in the studio. Smart this time, I ran to find a blank tape and managed to record most of the interview. I was kind of frustrated, cuz the DJ's kept blabbering and got some of the facts from their first interview wrong (Heh, they kept getting her confused, poor woman. They do that to a lot of people, Mr. Rogers got so confused he switched charater started talking to himself . . . oops, I'm getting sidetracked. O.o). *Shrugs* Oh, well, I did manage to get some facts from it. They also scanned and posted several documents she brought in as proof. Also, I got an e-mail from Frankie telling me he would have the article put up, and so that was also put up.
ANYWAYS I'll stop blabbering and just put up the gathered information.:
1) http://www.mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=58221 The original article
2) http://www.angelfire.com/dragon2/scorch/Interview.wav The Second (Monday) Interview. Part of the end is cut off. (I wasn't at home and the tape ran out, but it was only like 2 or 3 minutes worth, not a big miss, if you must know ask and I'll recap. Also the file is VERY lagre, it make take time to download)
3) http://www.949zht.com/matrix/index2.html The Scanned "Evidence"
4) http://949zht.com/zj_booth/morningshow.html Link to the station's web page.
(If any of the links don't work let me know)
P.S. Try to keep your comments constructive, and flaming to a minimum. I really don't wanna see a whole thread full of spam like: "thaz dumb. u dumb. Wachowski's rulez!" -_-;;

I checked out the links you have there. I don't know. Something kind of fishy. That would really stink, though if the bros did steal her idea. Guess we will all see where this ends up. I mean, she could be lying and could well have written "her script/comic book" after the matrix came out. Well, it stinks for her if the bros DID steal her idea, but they did a hell of a job with the matrix movies!

I'm not yet sure what to belive, there isn't enough evidence to go either way. However, one of the images shows a copyright form for like 1983 or 84, which shows that her story was indeed written before the matrix was released.

Goodness! Well, if this all turns out in her favor, me and a lot of other people are going to be pretty disappointed. I mean, the bros did such a wonderful job with the movies, and to me, they blew everyone else's movies out of the water, but criminy, if the bros did steal this woman's idea, some people are going to be pissed, and the bros may indeed lose some of their fanbase because of it. They would've accepted and took credit for something that did not belong to them.
Looking at the pages of her "script" you had scanned, it certainly seems to be the basic same idea. I'll try and keep notice of all that is happening with this, but if you find out something more first, would you please post it?

I bet it's some really smart lady who needs money.
So she'll try and make this elaborate plan to sue them.

I agree. And she waited a whole three films to do it.

I agree with you Kenya, I can't see the Matrix turning into the phenomenon it has become without the brother's influence, and for that I'll gladly condone them. However, if that lady did indeed write the story, then she deserves her recognition. Also, if the court rules in her favor (which it's sounding like they might) the brothers are going to be in deep @$!# with the feds. I'm just glad that she's not trying to put a stopper on it, and will allow warner brothers to continue the matrix saga. And don't worry, If any more information surfaces, I'll be sure to post it.
To RemiX and The_Anomaly, It may be true that she made the whole thing up, and it is a definite possibility, one that can't be ruled out. However, if she did, she is one heck of a con-artist. Especially to have fooled the feds. You were also wondering why she waited until the third to sue. According to her first interview she's been fighting it since the first movie, however it has taken this long to get to the courts and has also been in court for some time, probably before the third even came out.

I feel sorry for the lady, both ways.
If she made it up, I pitty her, but she's telling the truth I pity her for not getting acknowledgement for such a great storyline.
Does anyone know or the book has been published? I'd love to read it!

lol. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, that it would be cool to read HER stuff. I don't think it has been published or anything. From what the article said, apparently she had been sending her script/comic book to various agencies but no one responded to her. Somehow or another, according to the woman, it ended up being sent to the bros, and that is how (according to her) her idea got stolen. But again, I really don't think it's been published. (yet?)

That does seem fishy that she would wait until the third movie to come out with this. Maybe she wanted more money from every movie... I don't know. So perhaps if we have questions regarding the intricacies of the Matrix, we should ask this lady.
