Final flight of the Osiris - what happened to the EMP?

Well, my title pretty much summarises my question. I know this might be me reading way too much into these movies again and I don't usually dissect action sequences but it seemed a little too obvious to me that the crew of the Osiris could have just used the EMP and then entered the Matrix to warn Zion (whoa, what a long sentence).
Could there possibly be a reason for this (or could you make up one and make me a happier Matrix obssesive)?

The EMP disables any electrical system within the blast radius. So that means their ship too. They would have killed all the sentinels near them, but then they would have crashed, and been attacked by the rest anyway. And with no electricity, they couldn't have then jacked into the matrix either.

And that girl plugged in Matrix would have died too if they would have used EMP.

Fair enough. I guess EMP isn't designed to full on combat with hundreds of sentinels. I'm happy now.

The reason the EMP was not used was because the woman, who was in love with the commander of the Osiris, was still plugged into the Matrix. If you remember from M1, if an EMP is used while someone is plugged in, it will kill them. The Osiris could have landed and used the EMP, but the commander would not have allowed it - out of love.

And if Joanne had've been killed before she posted the "package" then Zion wouldn't have forewarning of the huuuuuuuge sentinel attack
