The person on the other comp didn't wait till the kid died. The director of the short-movie opted to show it at the end of the episode. Besides the kid didn't die; the kid is freed.

i think, that you a little bit (just a little ) hollow are, i told to you, in the narrative, also in literatute or in cine, there are many technicks, the story dont have to be lineal, as you know, in the books, they tell you something of today, and in the next page, they tell tou somenthing from 5 years before, and then they return, to the today, etc,etc.
the image in the computer the message or answer :your not alone. appears at the end of the anime, right, but i think that it was the motive because the kid finally send everything to hell, i mean , the idea is taht the boy receive the answer while he was
on this chat with neo, before all this persecution.

it was conformation that everything he had been feeling was true.
It was shown directly after the question was asked.
the director showed it at the end. because i highlights the effect Neo had on saving the kid. I believe it was Neo at the other end.
Whicdh is why the kid keeps saying to NEo thanks for saving me

I'm thinking that they waited to him unitl he dies because they probably didn't want anyone else to find out and question him about it!
