I saw the movie tonight. I don't understand why Merovingian (the french dude) doesn't co-operate with Neo and trys to kill him (thus sending those Ghost dudes on the highway chase). I don't understand his purpose. He seems to have independent control over the matrix (IE: send the cake making that babe horny). Who is he and why is he important?
