Carlos brought this up in his thread about whether or not Neo should fear anything inside the Matrix.

Neo essentially has the power to destroy the Matrix from the inside, but by doing that he would kill everyone hooked into it.

As a side note, a possible reference from the bible is mentioned in the TIME magazine article - the number 314, which shows the most relevance to this movie in the third book of Exodus

The sections 3:13 and 3:14 are fairly significant, as they show Moses being told that he is something equivalent to "the one". This leads me to believe that Neo is infact a symbol for Moses and that the only way to destroy the matrix is for Neo to

"...stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians [Machines] with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go. "

I'm guessing "He" is the architect mentioned in the TIME Magazine article.

It also shows a possible reference to Descartes most famous quote "I think therefore I AM", which could prove to be a way to destroy the machines. Destroy their ability to think, and you destroy their existance. It would be possible to leave the humans in the Matrix, but at the cost of traping them in some sort of continuous loop (Revolutions?)

Hell, I could be way off, but maybe someone will agree with me.

Thanx for starting th thread ..
I believe the easiest way would be to unplug everybody before you destroy the matrix. But as we donīt know how could this be done or if it could be done before the machines realize and do something , letīs skip it and try some more complex ways...

Iīll sleep on it ...

well they couldn't do a mass unplugging because that'd prob kill everyone... maybe they could somehow hack into the A.I. and program them to unplug everyone the safe way or something like that:confused:

jus like you pulled neo out of the matrix.
1) destroy the machines in the real world.
2) unplug people and save them like you did with neo.
3) send neo in to destroy the Matrix along with his team.

I think that it is very well posible that what you say is true i dont think that your way off from the truth at all. i mean think about it Neo can do anything he wants in the matrix as he is the creator of it and can use it in any way along with destroy it at anytime he wants and i also think that you may very well be orrect when saying " if you destroy how the machines think then they will no longer exsist."

who says neo can destroy the matrix? i mean right now, what has been revealed to indicate that he can end everything? how do we know that he is not in a matrix within a matrix, or the matrix is more encompassing than we imagined in the first movie ;)? so far we know that neo can bend and break rules like nobody before him (that we know of), and he has knowledge of things before they actually happen.

im not saying im right, im just looking for more information on the given theory of destroying the matrix

Neo cant destroy the matrix. He can bend the rules in the matrix but im sure that the matrix would have to be shut down from the outside IE hack into the machines mainframe and shut it down or go to the place where the servers are at and unplug them or something.

They would unplug only those who wanted to know the truth not everyone. If they unplugged everyone then there would be a food shortage and the world would go into chaos cause ther would be way too many people to fit in the underground cities..

This is a great subject and is somthing ive wondered about myself for a long time. Agent X that is some great info and thinking.
So if you destroy the machines (which is im sure what the story is leading up to) Then what happens with mankind? If you think about about it i think that with Neo and the others ability to manipulate the Matrix i feel that perhaps they could tell the people inside the Matrix that it is not real and slowly begin to unplug them. It would be the equivelant to mass histeria but what other way is there? Perhaps 1. Leave the remaining people in the Matrix let them live out there lives untill they die. 2. Release only those they know can handle it/want to be unplugged. 3. Destroy it with everyone inside. (Very unlikely) I feel the last option could only happen if destroying the machines involed destroying the matrix. Also if you think about it the machines are keeping us alive. The surface cannot sustain life so therefore the humans would have to figure out another way to live, either through technology or other means. "Fate is not without a sense of irony it seams" We become dependant on machines the machines take over, machines become dependant on us, we take over machines...It seems we may end up in a vicious life cycle...

guys, it is a war. in a war people will die. those who cannot handle the unplugging, will die. and there will be no food shortage(remember the gook they were eatin on the ship?) moreover the year is close to 2199....so we have enuf technology to survive.
