I don't know if I'm supposed to know this or not, but does anybody really understand the 9th episode called "Matriculated" on the Animatrix? I don't really understand all of it.

Ya, i didnt get it either.
I think it shows that the machines can live with the humans, and protect them, they just need to choose to join the humans..

well those people are kind to machines, and try to make them defect to their side (which succeeded before, since they have machines working for them) So that robot that follows that woman is plugged in into some sort of Construct. And the humans play with the Robots mind, try to make it feel comfortable in a strange environment. They hope that the machine will become friendly to them, they give it a choice. Then the other machines come and kill al those people, while the other robot is trying to decide which ones to fight for, so he finally chooses the human side, but by then it is too late. so he plugs in the woman to the construct, and then she dies too... really a sad story :'(

I think basically the people stun the machines, hook them up, and try to show them how humans are helpful. Remember when those branch like things were trying to get the machine and the human tried to help the machine and the machine excepted his help and started to like humans because they were helping him...but that is my theory. Hope it helps! ^_^

machines may have the same state of consciousness as the humans, just that humans are restricted to flesh and machines seem to be limitless.
the point of matriculated was to show two physically different beings with a similar state of consciousness can co-exist. but hey, the humans "are the architecht to their own demise".
and therefore i am Deity

I think Matriculated serves to show the 2 major concepts in Matrix/Reloaded..
1) Choice : Humans above all makes that important distinction form Machines in allowing (and being allowed) choice. They choose to allow machine to join them rtaher than forced/programmed
2) Purpose : unfortunately Machines only have a purpose and like Smith though freed from system, still pursues Neo ("purpose that defines us") the Machine though "brainwashed" to help humans, still has purpose to get to that human girl...

I thought the point of Matriculated was to show that Machines could be accepting of humans, but the reverse was impossible. The machine tried to reconnect with that woman (don't know her name, if she has one...) through the only way which it knew, through the matrix. It reached out to her, and tried to befriend her, but she becomes scared.... And dies a second later.
On another note, if humans could be accepting of machines, that was a perfect way to do it. I think someone else might have said this, I'm not sure.... The machine was given the illusion of choice. It thought that it was making its own choices, but it was not. When there was that cube and a hole in the middle of the floor, in the shape of the cube, 99.9% of the time, the person/machine/whatever will put the cube in the hole. It is just your nature. You think you are making a choice, but the choice was already made for you. You are just carrying it out.
I didn't really like this film, itself, but it illustrated the ideas behind the movie very well.

I'm not sure why... but this is my favorite episode. When I think back on all nine episodes, this one sticks out like sore thumb and I love it. My reasons probably have to do with the little baby monkey creature and the virtual reality. When I've figured it out, I'll be back.

They were tricking the machine, in making a choice because the choice was already made for the machine. But it was to benefit the humans, so they could have atleast a chance to fight against the machines. But that wasn't enough, the humans died n left one machine alive. Now the question, will the machine unplug himself n fight for what he thought was his choice or not????
