I'm not sure if this is off topic because it's about the movie...but I wanted to know how you guys reacted to the movie when you first saw it?

When I saw it the first time, it was on TMN, and I was so shocked/amazed/impressed, it was so amazing to me...I watched it again (cause they played it twice) and ended up staying up all night just so confused but excited at the same time.

For the six months after that, it became a religion, scary but true. It was all I talked about, from the actors to the effects, but most importantly I talked about the ideas and concepts about it...I actually started believing in the fact the Matrix was real. (Insanity?) But I started wishing everyday that I could be released, that I could be saved...After six months, the passion for it died down because I started going out with a guy that wasn't into it at all, so I couldn't talk with him about it....

When I saw a commercial on t.v. about the Matrix reloaded, I got hooked again. I'm not at the point of believing it exists again, but I...I'm obsessed...is there anybody else out the like me or am I just psycho?

i think everyone here is just like you.

the awesome thing is we have so many people from Africa,
Asia, Europe, South America and places I'd never imagine
having hardcore fans like us.

i guess the Matrix really touched everyone, no matter what
race, gender (well, girls less, ;) ) or religion.

i was actually amazed when i saw the movie for the first
time and i'm glad it set new standards for special effects.

the plot was excellent, and after watching it at least a
couple hundred times i know it's by far the best action
movie i've ever seen (and i've seen a lot).

My firends all called me a freak...I'm glad I finally found people who feel the same way! My real name is actually Chantal, Dawn was the name I wanted for when I'd be freed from the Matrix...The movie touched me so much, everything reminds me of it. If I see green letters or a black background, or if I hear that key typing noise, I think of it...It's crazy lol

i'm a computer geek and i look at everything from a geeks
stand point.

long before the movie came out i wondered about the
possibility of creating a world inside a computer and
letting people live there. as crazy as it may sound, it's
not actually impossible. modern games have amazing
3d engines, with incredible detail. so i got me a virtual
reality helmet for some heavy dough and i played around
in VR worlds.

there was a problem however. the only body part that
experienced the VR world were my eyes. my senses
were still in the real world and after a few weeks and
lots of dyziness i gave up.

i always wondered about how we could get hooked up
to a computer directly, using our brain. everyone knows
that our brain uses electronic impulses to send and
receive messages (senses, sight, etc), just like a computer
uses electronic impulses to receive keystrokes when we
tap on the keyboard. if we somehow figured out how
to interface our brain with a machine, and let the machine
control those electronic impulses, then we would truly
be living in a VR world.

the Matrix solved this problem, but honestly, I didn't like
the solution. drilling holes in the back of peoples heads
is not very efficient, and it will never be allowed (if we
wanted to try it out). i think that the only way to safely
do it is to use some sort of a device that can receive and
transmit electronic level on the same frequency as our
brain waves operate. that would be pretty sweet!

wonder how long it will take before something like this
is available.

Maybe, just maybe given how deep you feel M1 was, how amazing it was on so many levels, you should consider the possibility that M1 was really produced by some force on the outside of whatever matrix we are in now - sort of a wake up call or call to arms or some sort of signal to prepare for a mass unplugging.

Many philosophies work on the thought of universes in universes or armagheddon type purges.

Sounds crazy when you think about it, it could make you crazy thinking of all the wacky possibilities and permutations - but I beleive it's best to just assume that what we see is what we get for reality.

OMG! No way! I've felt that way about the movie too WildCard!! I thought it was a documentary sent to us by Zion as a warning, to show us what happened and to try to encourage us to wake up!! It would make sense because any other way would seem too obvious and the agents would shut it down...while a movie wouldn't attract as much...
I feel so understood! I'm so happy to finally be able to say how I feel about all this!

Sad realisitic thought about the matter....

If what was happening in M1 was true and somehow they killed/shutdown the AI and Matrix - I would assume nearly all of the 6billion occupants would be lost.

6 billion people simultaneously wake up in goo with a tube down their throat and a wire tethered into the back of their head. Everyone would end up starving to death if the elements don't kill them.

This is assuming that the death of the Matrix doesn't make the mind believe that the body is dead (thereby killing the self).

Good news would be that maybe the ones that kill the AI would gain control of the machines and thereby be able to control release the people. But that would leave everyone over 30ish stuck in the matrix given that older minds don't take to release well.

With no new babies going to the matrix, instantly everyone still in the matrix would panic about being infertile, since the program isn't spawning new births.

The old would only get older and be stuck to die in the matrix.

The people above 30 with kids under 30 would find their kids vanish or die without reason.

Sad, hey?

ok!!! IM NOT TRYING TO BE SELF RIGHTEOUS!!! I just say that because everyone says i'm trying to be cool when i say i understood the movie the first time i saw it.

I don't know, maybe i just comprehend alot of this stuff better than other people, but i'm not bragging.

after i saw it, i looked at it from the philosophical stand point: we are all living a lie. That makes you think about alot of things from a serious way and a funny way.

Serious: "You ever wake up, and feel like you're still dreaming?". That is what Thomas Anderson once said before he was "unplugged". In a way, his statement was true for his situation. But if we're not living in a Matrix, then why do we feel this all the time? I just get so overwhelmed some times thinking that i would work so hard at my life trying to make a difference in this world, and then you would wake up from a coma in the hospital to find out that you're only 7 years old and you'll have to do it all over again. doesn't that just scare you? i mean, i just get so excited and at the same time scared by the thought of my life as a complete diception or a lie.

Funny: ok, you could get in a lot of really deep sh*t. I mean lots of trouble, you could get expelled from school and then later get arrested for killing someone, and then still think about the matrix and just say to yourself "remember, this ain't real". i seriously dreamed this once. there's just alot of scenarios that you can think of where the fact that something is a simulation or not genuine makes it really funny. I'm sure you can go anywhere with this one.

ok dawn, i agree with you about a big possibility that the matrix is real. i just think there are many holes in the story that need to be filled. please, anybody help!!!

the movie could have been a documentary sent by Zion to help us rise against the machines, but it would have been too obvious (contrary to your explaination=no hard feelings really). i think it's all one big metaphor:

Maybe the ones controlling us arent actually machines. maybe the machines are symbolic for something. let's say they're spirits and they can use their supernatural powers to change things as they wish. perhaps we're trapped in this dimension and The One was the first human to escape into the 4th demension and begin freeing humans into it to battle the spirits. maybe the only way the humans of the 4th demension could send the message to us without the agents (spirits) finding out was to change the 3rd dimension into a computer program and the spirits into agents. there are endless parallels that could follow the same idea.

Also, let's say everything is as it is in the movie, the humans must have been really smart to do it. one, the agents could have easily found out and terminated the effort. two, how could they get warner bros to do the movie for them? assuming that the agents maintain and run the large corporations of the world to keep humans in check, wouldn't they have found out through warner bros?

I think that warner bros. didnt fund the movie. in the special features of matrix, the wachowski brothers mention the movie companies to be evil superpowers or something. i know he may be joking, but what if he was speaking the truth?

I think that andy and larry wachowski are humans that have been unplugged. desciples of zion sent to make this feature for us. but how did they do it without getting caught by the agents? i think they host the website from a remote location outside of the matrix which the agents wouldn't be able to shut it down.

or there could be a twist. andy and larry wachowski could be agents trying to lead the humans into their own downfall. that is why the agents dont shut it down because it is their own twisted and evil working. i think the machines are trying to fight the war by telling us the truth, that we are enslaved by them and that they are superior to us. keanu reeves mentioned that the first movie is birth, the second movie is life, and the third movie is
