It seems that the iconic Australian spread, Vegimite, has been banned in the United States. This ban has been in accordance to US food laws which state that the only food products that can contain Folate are Cereals and Bread. Vegimite contains folate, as well as many other vitamins and minerals. This ban has left many Australin expats shocked, as they can no longer enjoy one of the tastes from home. One expaitriate, now living in Calgary, had his car searched the the US border to see if he was carrying Vegimite.

I am completely shocked! This means that I have less than two months to eat as much of this black gold that I can, then work out a way to smuggle the stuff in when I move out to LA! Many companies that export Australian foodstuffs like Vegimite, Tim Tams and so forth are going to lose massive amounts of money over this...they are actually banning something that is good for you (though all the Americans I've fed it to would beg to differ!)

I can't say I understand the reason for this law, but I guess ultimately it's for the good of humanity.

I agree with you, Eon...even on the news they were saying it was law making gone mad...they better un-ban it before December, or something drastic is gonna have to happen. THey must forget how many Aussies live in the US...and the fact that we have a free trade agreement with them. Silly rabbits.
