During the failed pre-emptive strike against the Machine army (the one where somebody screwed up and disabled the entire attack, leaving it vulnerable to thousands upon thousands of Sentinels), why and how did Bane/Smith survive? I can't imagine he would have been at any less of a risk than anyone else.

Well after he blew the EMP he must have left the ship, since the Sentinels were attacking the ships, they probaby never thought (if they can think!!!!) to sweep the surrounding area, since the entire Mjolnir managed to escape no reason why one man can't.

Since Bane planned the whole thing, he would have thought it through and found a place he could go to escape from the sentinels before they arrived. This raises a few other questions, but I think it's too insignificant to worry about. There's a lot of plot points that aren't perfectly clear.

Well. The Sentinels are thearetically the Matrix. The machine city is the Matrix. The first ones to encounter it. They know of Smith and they can easily read the bodies of the humans. Why do you think there was a war. It was a war to stop the humans plugging into the Matrix. Bane/Smith was part of the sentinels lives.

Hope that helps.

The sentinels and machine city are not the matrix. The Matrix is the all encompassing virtual reality world that was created by the machines to keep the humans' minds occupied while the machines drew their power from the humans' bodies. They do indeed know of Smith, but they dont like him any more than the humans, because even though he was originally a part of the machines' system of control, he has now gone rogue and is destroying everything. And as far as the reason for the war, it's not about keeping hackers out of the matrix, the whole war is about control. They want ALL humans under control because of what they did to the machines in the first place. The humans tried to destroy the machines, while the machines wanted peace, so in retaliation, the machines fought back and eventually enslaved humanity.

As far as Bane being over looked...that's a noodle scratcher. I would guess being a former part of the matrix itself, he probably had information on how the sentinels work and what they would or wouldnt look for, and what they would and wouldnt over look if they found something. He did seem to have some sort of direct connection with them in the first Matrix. After the trace was complete that he and the other agents seemed to be in charge of, a sentinel was sent to the ship to destroy the crew. So it's feasible he had information useful in evading a sentinel, or possibly detering them?

That may be the case but the machines only cause war and chaos do they not? And Smith does the same thing. The machines may not care about Smith but they sure don't hate him enought for them to wish he was dead.

The Matrix is a confusing programme for any of us to FULLY understand. Much of the damage was done by the humans when they firsat plugged into the Matrix. Neo helped free Smith of his programmed life. Therefore Smith was a computer virus which helped him clone himself and makehim take over the Matrix.

The Matrix may very well be real. Just because you can't see soemthing doesn't mean it isn't there. But if the Matrix is true and we are computer programmed then why have we never seen Neo or Trinity? You must also remember that just because Smith had "died" doesn't mean he cannot return. Our lives are alwaysin danger and we know it. But what will cause thetrouble, when will the trouble be, how will it begin?

We will always be watched

We will always be seen

We will always be endangered.
