Is it just me, or is the government just fucking stupid? Now I’ve said that, Johnny Howard is going to have me carted off to prison for being anti-government (thanks, new terror laws!), but from what I’ve seen lately, who can blame me?
Our government loves to advertise on TV, just to remind us how lovable and great they really are For example, the Federal Government is bringing in new Workplace Relations Laws to make getting a job (and keeping it) easier. Right. So now we have to put up with constant ad’s in our newspapers, and in every ad break on TV. Not to mention that they are spending our tax dollars on putting the damn things together. Not that there is any point advertising these new changes, because they’re going to happen anyways, and we going to have to put up with them, wether we like them or not.
There is a woman from a town about an hour away from me who is dying from breast cancer. She can have a fighting chance at beating this cancer if she is given a drug called Heraceptin before December. Her problem is that this drug costs upward of $60,000 to have because it is not part of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. The Government is not required to help pay for it, even though hundreds of women are going to die because they simply cannot afford to get the drug that could save them.
My point is, why the hell is the Government spending all this money on pointless advertising when they could be doing something useful with it, like, I don’t know, save a life, so a family doesn’t have to grow up without their mother? Each advertisement the Federal Government runs about Labour Reforms costs more than a bottle of Heraceptin does. Is it that hard to decide between saving the lives of your taxpayers, or shoving Parliamentary decisions down everyone’s throats?
Or what about making sure that schools and hospitals have enough money so they don’t have to whore themselves to the public to raise enough funds? Every year, the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne has their “Good Friday Appeal”, just to raise enough funds to buy new equipment. They shouldn’t have to do that, the State and Federal Governments should be organised enough to make sure they have this money already!
The State Government. Don’t think you’re not escaping this. Just now, my Mum and I were watching TV, when an Ad came on, talking about how great our local hospital is, and how the State Government is go great about making it that way. Truthfully, our hospital sucks. The staff are surly and indifferent, the facilities aren’t up to scratch, and everytime someone I know has been there, they have fucked up. My Mum is currently on the waiting list for a simple operation that will stop her from bleeding internally at any moment. She has already been in hospital twice in the last month or so because of this. She commented, “It seems that they’re trying to drum up business for a hospital that doesn’t have enough beds to hold you, and you go straight onto a waiting list anyways.” Exactly. Instead of spending x amount of dollars telling us that Victoria is the place to be sick in, fix the problems that stare us in the face!
The point of this angry rant? How can people be so obtuse? If it’s so easy for me to see this, why can’t everyone in Canberra see it too?

It's probably the actual Canberra that does it.

Simple, the government doesn't care about the people. They want money, and a vote. Make everyone feel like they are doing their job, and reassure them everything is going to be ok.

Why the hell's the drug so expensive to begin with? Someone's making a few bucks with this...

Its so expensive because its only a new drug, and its not on the PBS. If it were on the PBS, it would be affordable.

What the government's doing right now is the biggest load of bullshit I've seen. I believe the amount they'd spent on advertising that IR reform bullcrap was around the $23 mill mark, that was a few days ago, so it's probably higher now.
All they're doing is trying to comfort us into thinking they're doing the right thing. Like hell they are. They're shoving reforms and bills through parliament faster than they have in a long time, is this doing the right thing by us? Are they honestly checking each bill thoroughly enough? Doubt it.

It isnt just victoria though. we got major problems here in south australia too. one thing is the way they are trying to force people out in the workforce. problem with that is, daycare costs that much, that most of your pay would go on that and fuel alone. so ok, then you have not enough jobs, and they are looking at dropping government payments which means thousands of people around australia will end up well below the poverty line hence raising crime. howard shouldve done it alot more slowly. but meh its the government. take the money off of us, and pocket it, they get the pay rise so why should they care?
a petion to the queen would sort him out........but how many others feel as we do that the government is wasting money and pocketing what they take off of us...the little people.

Exactly. Democracy is a farce when both the upper and lower houses are controlled by government.
I reckon Barnaby should cross the floor again, he's probably the only half decent one there.
