All minors are banned from playing online games in which players are allowed to kill other players, which includes the World of Warcraft. Towards the end of the month, the Chinese Government stepped up the assault by unveiling a new system to prevent individuals from playing online games for more than three consecutive hours, which must be installed for every online game in the country. A few days later, the Chinese government ordered Object Software, a Chinese game developer, to remove a system in its "Fod Online" game that rewards gamers points for killing the characters of other players. World of Warcraft has not been targeted yet, but considering the newly implemented "Honor System" added a few patches ago, many expect it to be next. Players of World of Warcraft are worried with the recent changes. Chinese players have begun an Internet signature campaign protesting the Chinese government's plans to limit the country's online gamers to three hours of consecutive playtime. "These restrictions violate the rights of online game players," one Chinese player wrote on the petition. "Trying to prevent young players from being addicted is good, but this new system will be a total failure." The Chinese Government sites recent situations of game addictions and child neglect for these recent changes but will these harsh restrictions curb the epidemic?
