I don't think anyone has posted something like this before, but has anybody noticed a similarity between The Matrix and The Village? In both, someone goes out to save someone else (Neo in The Matrix and Ivy, I think, in The Village), and there's some kind of cover-up to prevent people from getting out, which is fake (the Matrix in...well, you get the picture...and "those we don't speak of" in The Village). Also, technology which the mains didn't know existed is present (Zion and its technology in [I]The Matrix; the modern world of The Village). Has anybody else noticed this? Is there anything I'm missing?

Nope, you've pretty much summed it up. There are always paralells with the movie like the matrix when another comes along with basically the same premise. The hero/heroine comes along and pushes the boundaries of what the mass 'thinks' is acceptable, the noticable time difference and of course the person or beings creating this alternate exsistence to ensure the happiness of the masses. However in this case the elders in the Village had only good (if very misguided) intentions whereas the machines in the matrix needed to create this alternate exsistence for humans so they wouldn't die out after the great war.

My two cents worth is that the main difference is that The Village is shit.

Now hear me out.

The Village takes part in the modern day and the community it describes, whilst not an evil one, is essentially an Amish cult. Whereas The Matrix is an entire theory on the existance of the human race and where we fit into the grand scheme of things.

The similarities pointed out are true, but are WAY superficial, and you could find a ton of movies that they relate to.
