Is Deus Ex Machina consider one machine itself or just a group of machines together?
If it's a group, does that mean that there are no leader in the machine world, i.e. they are all controlled by a core or something?

I think he would technically be considered all the machines. We don't need you!

The actual Deus Ex Machina is the spiky thing at the back. The sentinels making up a face are just a way of communicating to Neo.

I think that was just a holder for the sentinals (they weren't actually sentinals if i saw them right) and he is the collective conciousness of the machines.

I always thought of it this way: Architect - Matrix, Dues Ex - Real World. I think he's like the Architect in the sence he has control over all the machines fate, but does give them free will (i.e. The Seond Rennisance in The Animatrix). And they follow him and do what he says, or he flips the switch on them all and cuts the power, or something.

Deus Ex Machina is just one machine. He/she/it is the leader of the machines. Not in the sense that he controls them, but more in the sense of an army general. Deus gives the orders, the machines carry them out. When Deus says "We don't need you!" , it's referring to all machines. They dont need a human to help them. Foolish machine pride, but luckily Neo could see through it immediately and so Deus let him in to finish Smith off, so to speak.
And as for why there's lots of little ones, that form the face, it's kind of like many myths about gods and higher entities....they will take the shape of what is familiar to the subject, to further help them comprehend. In this case Deus Ex Machina uses many smaller machines to create the face of a human to talk to Neo. Ironically, Neo probably couldnt even see it, since he was physically blind, lol. He probably saw something more spectacular than what we got to see. Just like when he looked at Bane, we saw Bane's face and body, but Neo saw Smith's.

Well jusy before the smaller machines are released don't we see what Neo sees?
the big Sun like ball, which could represent him giving life to machines the same way the Sun gives life to us, but thats kinda thin

Well, that's my point exactly. What we see of what he sees, is before the release. All we see is a large bright light. But who knows if that remains, dissappears, or takes new shape once the smaller ones are released. Because we never get to see. I'm sure the level of intensity of light is to symbolize the power and significance of this particular entity. But whatever...I wish Wachowski's would just tell us some things already. I hate that they won't give us the answers because they want us to come up with our own interpretations. We've done that long enough, it's their turn to tell us theirs.
