I have been confused about this 4 quite a long time now so hopefully someone could help me?

OK. At the begginning of the matrix trinity is talking to cypher on the phone and they are discussing neo. Cypher then says "We're gonna kill him you understand?"
What exactly does he mean by this? Cypher hasn't decided to betray everyone yet and even if he had he wouldn't just say "Hey Trinity! I'm gonna make a deal with Agent Smith and get u all killed!!!!"

Could it be that he means we're gonna kill him in the sense that they are going to be the death of him? Like when someone u know says "you're gonna be the death of me if u keep getting into trouble!!" Is it being said in that context or is there another reason?

It's probably a perfectly simple explanation but I would really like 2 know!

it might have been possible that he ment it in a way for when they bring him into the ral world but i dunno.

He probably meant it as in, "you know he's too old. His brain won't handle the change, and he'll die."

But he could have very well also been thinking, "stupid punk's getting in the way of Trin and me. I'll bloody kill him."

The way I interpeted the opening dialogue between Trin & Cypher;

They were talking on the phone about Neo being 'The One' & that Morpheus believes he is, but Cypher had doubts. He felt it would have been a huge risk to the crew & that they could potentially get killed trying to save (unplug) Neo. He is the type of character who tries to avoid any danger. "Were gonna kill him, ya understand" dialogue, is a way to get the audience to see through his fear. He basically felt Neo was a threat & it would be an easier mission to kill him than to save him.

yeh i understand now cheers, i agree that its cos of the mind being too attatched cos "we never free a mind once its past a certain age" as morpheus says so also do u reckon cypher was already in league with agent smith way back then cos a trace was running on the phone call they were having and maybe cypher helped the agents run that trace call and pretended he was sure the line was ok when trin asked him "is this line clean?"

cypher probaly said it because neo whas already too old.
and because they where afraid the agents would get him (mabey )

i think he ment it as being that through training they were gonna kill him or that the agents would try to kill him and to save him they would screw up and kill him

I think it's just that he means that basically the guy that Neo is in the Matrix, "Thomas Anderson" " is gonna die, which will kill a part of Neo, all emotional and stuff.

i am not sure if thats what it means. Because even though he is unplugged he is still the same guy. the same attitude and curiousity in the real world.

Something else about that dialogue that I never really got was when Cypher says that Trinity wasn't supposed to take over his shift. What kinda shift are they talking about? How is making a simple phone call relieving someone?

You're correct. Cypher's statement was a "we're going to be the death of him" kind of comment. Exactly how they would be the death of him remained to be seen. Cypher was already on the take at the very beginning of the movie. That's how the Agents found Trinity. After Trinity escaped, the Agents made mention that, "The informant is real", referring to Cypher.
