I don't see the relevance... but there's relevance almost behind everything in the Matrix... so maybe I'm just blind...

No, I just loaned the movie in the local videostore... and I rippid it to my harddrive...
By the way... maybe the idea behind it was that they show that things like that ( that have a connection to find out about the matrix) happen every day all over the world (in the story ofcourse)
I donno...
