Does anybody know? That'd be really interesting to learn, especially about Morpheus.
[l8er edit]
(I mean originally, as in how did they get ahold of a Red Pill, who freed them, were any agents after then, etc)
[second later edit]
er, Morpheus freed Trinity of course, because I think she said so somewhere in one of the movies, probably the first one, but how, when and why?

Do you really think anyone knows? The story wasn't written, or if it were it was never released. They did it however you want them to have done it. That's what you have imagination for.

it would make a great prequel movie, wouldn't it?
that would ROCK
all they'd have to do with Trinity is pull the same crap they did with Marty's girlfriend in Back to the Future II and III - get somebody else to play the character

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but didn't Morpheus say that there was first a man inside the matrix who could change anything he wanted, and that he was the one who freed the first of the humans (including Morpheus, who I assume later freed Trinity)?

er ... the term "Exiles" refers to renegade programs that have gotten out of the control of the Machine systems. So assuming you meant "Freeminds" which is the proper term for human beings who have escaped the Matrix ...
The First Coming of the One (according to Morpheus, before Neo found out what was really going on by talking to the Architect in the Matrix Revolutions) was approximately100 years before Neo. ("For one hundred years they have sent their armies against us ... WE ARE STILL HERE!" etc) thus it is improbable that Morpheus ever met the previous One to Neo - that is, unless either Morpheus or the previous One lived for a very long time.
The theory in the story that was linked to that Commander Lock originally freed Morpheus is intruiging.

Morpheus did state that their was a man inside The Matrix that could change it as he saw fit. I think what he meant was the first of the humans, not Morpheus himself. How Morpheus was freed we do not know, but we do know Trinity searched for Morpheus and found him and in turn she was freed by him. Neo however did not find Morpheus, as Morpheus stated he found him.
