Nope, you've pretty much summed it up. There are always paralells with the movie like the matrix when another comes along with basically the same premise. The hero/heroine comes along and pushes the boundaries of what the mass 'thinks' is acceptable, the noticable time difference and of course the person or beings creating this alternate exsistence to ensure the happiness of the masses. However in this case the elders in the Village had only good (if very misguided) intentions whereas the machines in the matrix needed to create this alternate exsistence for humans so they wouldn't die out after the great war.
