after a long time, i return... been a long time since i posted here and i think i never really posted anything useful

i know this is a Matrix forum, but i was wondering if anyone saw the movie I Robot? and what they thought of it...

if i am honest, i think that is exactly what could happen..

but then again there are so many possibilities of the world disappearing, and the human race being destroyed.. such as war (it is likely that this is most promenant).

i know that humans will be responsible for the end of their/our world, with all the waste and stuff being pumped into the o-zone layer and what not that we all probably die from...

but if we arent killed by the elements or war and manage to last long enough to create sufficient AI power then i believe it will be our downfall, almost everything analogue is considered as antique, and we are entering the 'digital revolution'!

does anyone else feel the same?

Man is not ready for AI. Because they have tendancy of abusing everything they get their hands on. I would have to agree that War would be our down fall or the Creation of AI. We are on our way to the creation of sufficient AI with the Creation of that Robot that Japan Created that can wave to people, shakes peoples hands, and Get the mail on its own.

What In the name of an all-powerful deity is so darn frightening about a robot waving to other people, shaking hands and getting the mail? My dog does about the same.

However, my dog also comes to me when he is hungry, he likes when I play with him. That robot does not do that. In fact, that robot is programmed to bring in the mail. If I put a heavy package in the mail, and the robot hasn't been programmed to accept such mails, he will never be able to get it. That robot does not have artificial intelligence.

These days 'intelligence' seems to be mistaken quite a lot with intelligent programming. For example, the minions in an RTS game, instead of walking through each other, walk around each other. This could be seen as these minions having a smart AI, as they often say in reviews, previews, but these minions do not have AI or anything that comes even remotely near it. They are programmed to register the movements of other minions, and to adapt their path to it. There is nothing intelligent about it.

You see, intelligence is the ability to adapt to one's environment. To understand what is happening around you, and being able to respond to it. Intelligence has a whole different meaning than intelligent, which basicly means you are able to take in information from your surrouning easily and are adequate at processing it.

Anyway, Truth wrote a great piece about this somewhere here at Matrix Mania, and I know I have written a piece or 15 about AI here as well describing this exact same thing. There are a lot of threads about Artificial Intelligence and the Apocolypse here, and I do suggest before creating a thread next time, to browse through this section.

That's true. My dad tells me that everyday since he knows alot about computers. He always tells me this saying, "If you buy a computer today. Most likely by tomorrow it will be something of the past."
