Argentina - Germany 2:2 (but our best men Ballack, Podolski, Friedrich didn't play)
Tunesia - Australia 2:0

This means, we're first in the group and will probably have to play against Brazil.

Why didnt they play? Knew they didnt need the points and didnt want to risk them getting hurt?

yep, exactly. Also, the Brazilian coach said once in an interview that without Ballack, Germany would be easy to beat. Perhaps Klinsmann wanted to prove him wrong.

What are you guys talking about again? The confederates? Do the adult teams play in that?

Confederations Cup. Yes, the adult teams play in that

So, half-final is complete:

Germany - Brazil
Mexico - Argentina

Brazil played 2-2 against Japan. Japan was really strong and they could have easily won...too bad, they don't have good strikers. Greece, Japan, Australia, Tunesia are all out. Greece couldn't score a single goal...

I still cant believe Greece managed to win Euro 2004. They played like a 1970's division 2 side.

They won because they stuck to their strengths, played as a team and did what the coach asked of them. No real stars means no star ego's to satisfy so I think that whilst they did indeed play boring football they should be congratulated for identifying a way they could play and be successful

It seems like that approach always works. Detroit Pistons, New Englans Pats...same type of story. You would think the egomaniacal superstars would start catching on after a while.

So what's the deal with this Confederation cup? If it's a world competition then why isn't it as important as the FIFA world cup? And how do you get into it?

I completely agree with you.

FYM, actually the Confederations Cup is not very important. It is some kind of warmup for the 2006 World cup. The FIFA Confed. Cup is a tournament for national teams, held every two years (usually) by FIFA. It is contested by the winners of each of the six continental championships, with one or more other teams invited, to bring the number of teams up to eight. (European/Asian/African/World champion, Gold Cup winner, host nation etc.)

But this year some good nations participate (Brazil, Argentina, Germany) who all sent their best players (the years before, noone took the cup seriously ;)). That makes it more interesting. The special thing for me is: I can finally see how good my team is because the host nation doesn't have to qualify and therefore has less games than the other nations.
