The Media Revolution

neo7272003

2003. This was the time many were wishing would speed along. Many have lived with this thought "Why is it taking so long?" I would have to say that if the process had taken any less time, the people that do love the matrix would be very disappointed. I'm going to give a few quotes from resources such as Newsweek magazine, Starlog magazine, and TV Guide. This should show how anticipated these films were and how the story itself has had a huge effect on the public body. With the releases of The Animatrix, Enter the Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The most recent of media undertakings The Matrix Revolutions. As Morpheus would say "Here we go."

I would like to start with some quotes from Newsweek Magazine. " This is 21st century storytelling and 2003 can't get here soon enough." Newsweek has labeled 2003 "Year of the Matrix". They say in their table of content "It's going to be the year of the Matrix.' With two sequels to the movie that redefined action film making in the theaters and fashion and design everywhere else, fans of the franchise are gearing up for an infusion of cool as the coming months go by."

Next I would like to go to Starlog magazine. Starlog also starts the article by labeling it as " The year of the Matrix is at hand. Not one but two sequels to the 1999 cyberpunk tour de force- plus a video game and nine animated short films- are set to dominate the pop culture scene of 2003." Laurence Fishburne has faith that the Matrix staff will deliver superior sequels "We're all aware that we're involved in history- making cinema." he remarks. Joel Silver states this "The boys are very concerned about expectations, so we have to manage how we allow people to [learn] about the new movies. The world the boys created is so fantastic and full of material that it allows us to tell more stories, and I think that's unique and exciting."

Keanu Reeves has said that " This (The Matrix) has been an undertaking, a major undertaking." TV Guide says this " The groundbreaking first installment was the sleeper of 1999, grossing an astounding $460 million worldwide despite an R rating." Larry Wachowski has said "The Matrix is about the birth and evolution of consciousness." In my own oppinion, no matter what the magazines say, this has certainly been the monumental event of the decade. The oppinions of the public face does not downsize how the effects of this story has changed lives. Nothing can be taken back now, some may like the films, some may not but as you hear in the words of the philosopher known as Morpheus " What happened happened because it couldn't have happened any other way." That and just that may be what some people need to come to realize, that now the films aren't going to be remade, they are done. Fans can learn to live with what has been done or be disappointed with the outcome of the trilogy but one thing is for certain this has indeed been the major undertaking of our time.

How has the Matrix trilogy had an effect on your life?

credit for what is in excerpts is due to Newsweek Magazine, Starlog Magazine, TV Guide, and the Wachowski brothers

Newsweek has labeled 2003 "Year of the Matrix".

Yes, and here we are, at the end of the year, and it has almost been completely forgotten about because of the lukewarm reception to revolutions.

It's unfortunate really. They took the second two movies in a completely different direction than the first.
HomoUniversalis

Well, I'm chatting here, meeting new people. Getting in contact with different religions, cultures and different senses of duty and discipline. I have learned a lot here, so I guess the Matrix films have influenced me a lot.. I'm still typing, ain't I?

Can I digress just slightly? Since you mention the media....

what has amazed me is the reception that ROTK got/is getting, comparatively. I mean, okay, ROTK was filmed beautifully, and had actors who were fully believable in their roles (both of which Revolutions also possessed) -- but ROTK bored the hell out of me. I mean, so much of it was incredibly cheesy that I laughed out loud (legolas climbing arrows up that elephant thing; sam fighting the spider; battle tactics in general, eowyn killing the witch king!!!! "i am no man" yeah, right) and some of it was downright irritating: the most powerful wizard in the world used his magic stick as a club?!?! the most powerful wizard in the world was in the last epic battle to save middle earth and used no magic at all???????? (okay, besides shooing away the nazgul that once)

Frankly I found Revolutions to be a rather sublime ending to a rather powerful journey, and ROTK to be a waste of money that left me with a sore @ss. And so I'm amazed at the evidence that it is not the worth of the movie that makes it a blockbuster, but the critics themselves.

I will always remember it as the Year of the Matrix, that's for sure. I waited those yrs (since M1) rather anxiously, and I wasn't disappointed in the least. I wouldn't so much say that The Matrix has changed my life; rather, I'm excited to see the change in parlor conversation (so to speak); the subject matter which The Matrix has brought mainstream.

I'm just glad it's not entirely over, and I have avenues to continue the journey.
