Metal Gear Solid

Neo is The One

Who else here loves the Metal Gear Solid series? Personally, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is my favorite game ever, and I am almost dying with anticipation over Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The first game is also one of my favorites, but it seemed to short and too easy for me. I beat it in around 4 hours, that includes watching all of the movies and cut- scenes. Who else here joins me in the love for all things Metal Gear?
Solid_Snake

>_> ....Duh ;)
Terikan

the first metal gear was good. it's story was solid, and there were some real emotional highs in it.

the second one was crap, utter crap in terms of story. Gameplay was great, but of course really short. But the story started out good, and then just turned to crap about 3/4ths the way through. I have rarely been so disgusted as when I played that game and they start lecturing us on governments and reality with pop-culture psychobabble.

puke.
Solid_Snake

Amen! Why is it they put so much stock in ....THE PATRIOTS! *dramatic pause...* and the up and show Liquid Arm running away in a Ray to destroy them only to find out they're all dead. I mean even the x-files gave you something to go on...not "We exist...but we don't...we're not exactly human..."

I also bought substance because i heard that snake tales were supposed to give fans of solid snake (and not any other) the options of expanding the horizons playing as snake when it tunrs out they just screw iwth you so you get to fight the bosses in the second half of the story. I didn't like Raiden...I really wished you just played as the ninja...and they didn't fully explain why liquid's arm can suddenly rise up and take over ocelot..just because all they tell you is "You're the one who can free me...afterall..."

And hold ups were good until they kept saying the same stuff and by then i just wanted to pop all of them....
Neo is The One

Hey, I thought you were a fan, Solid_Snake! They do explain why Liquid's arm has control over Ocelot, and I thought the whole "Patriots" thing was pretty cool, the conspiracy and all of that. But what do you guys think about the third one?

And yes, the first one was really good, the emotional aspect is one of the things that really made it stand out. I thought the first one was a lot shorter than the second one, though.

MGS RULZ!

im a big fan also,,, can't wait for snake eater... mgs is and always will be a classic... mgs2 was hyped big, but Kojima got all crazy with his imagination and ****ed up the story for us... but i enjoy playing mgs2 still... love the gameplay and fun things you can do... how do ya like my alternate ego name for Solid Snake
Jetfire

I used to love Metal Gear Solid. I am excited about The new MGS soon to be released (Snake Eater). But for now, Mission Impossible (the newer one) stays number 1 in my books. :)
Terikan

I don't think snake eater will be any good. No offense to japanese culture, but something is seriously wrong over there.

The following games I've played and they all have stories that make me think the writer was on crack.

ff9
ffx
ffx-2 (oh my fuggin god)
arc the lad
mgs2
.hack
dark cloud
dark cloud 2
and many more...

Don't get me wrong, great gameplay here, for the most part.

I used to think maybe I was just getting too old for these games, but the older rpgs like the one's on snes were just soooooo ten million times better in the story department. I just wonder maybe something got into their drinking water 5 years ago and made them all crazy.
Terikan

BTW, the first time I went through MGS, it took me like 12 hours or something. Really short, but MGS2 only took me 8.

The final fantasy franchise isn't as good as it used to be. but xenogears has a rock solid plotline. in the most recents, kotor does the job extremely well.

i'm not really bothered about MGS i must admit, the job has been done by spliter cell ten times better on the Box and PC, but i can tell you that Resident evil online on which i worked on the last 3 days looks really nice.
Jetfire

Mission Impossible is alot like Splinter Cell. The new one (Xbox) is amazing. The graphics rule, and the things you can do rule also. Best game out so far on Xbox. :)
Neo is The One

Have you played it for PS2? I have a PS2 and I recently bought it, but I won't get a chance to play it for awhile.
Kaneda

I have a PS2 and i'm not sure about what to get next.

Here's the games that are in my head, can anyone help me out?

LA True Crime

Red Faction

Red Faction 2

MGS2

Vice City

If you could only get one game, which one would it be?

(im going with Vice City)

Also if Vice City was taken off the list, what game would you get then? I'm confuzzled. Any help would be welcomed.
Neo is The One

Get MGS2!!
Jetfire

LA True Crime - Good for the first 5 - 10 minutes.. Everything from there on is practically the same... A waste if you ask me

Red Faction - Not played it myself.. But probabily wouldn't go for it...

Red Faction 2 - If its any better than the first, then it would boost it's chances of me playing it by 10% at least...

MGS2 - Amazing graphic and gameplay, excellenmt story, but too short for it's money

Vice City - This game was good, theres great come back (if you have a wild imagination)... Come back meaning that you can complete the game and have something to do afterwards like make your own missions (imagination required.. lol ) and steal cars and boats and motorbikes etc...)... You can also collect the 100 packages and get the Apache helicopter. So it is pretty much worth it...

For my own view... If you want a good game, splinter cell type, amazing graphics, pretty difficult, mind tackling etc.. Then Mission Impossible is the game for you. Although the "Impossible" setting isn't much harder than the "Easy" setting... But then again, theres many good games coming out soon, so it might be worth saving your money and waiting to see what games come out... :)
Kaneda

Wow! I was thinking of getting Vice City bescause i was a HUGE gta3 addict and as soon as i saw 'Apache' my mind was made up!!!

Thanks Jetfire, i've now chosen! :D
rockreptile

u can get vice city and mgs2... mgs2 u can get used for under 15... and used vice city should be a decent price...

everyone should have vice city... and everyone should have mgs2 also
Terikan

no, don't get mgs2, it's too short and the action doesn't make up for the horrible story. go for vice city.
Deus Ex Machina

go for red fraction 2

anyway i am a mgs fan i've played all of them heres the list:

metal gear(NES)
metal gear 2: solid snake(my friend actually played it i just watched)
metal gear: snakes revenge(i justheard about it)
metal gear solid
metal gear solid vr missions
metal gear solid 2+substance

to varify the list:

The reason I'm not as fond of the later Final Fantasy games as I was with the first ones is that the plot is too linear, you don't have a choice as to where to go. That's why I just love GTA III and Vice City, because you can f*** off and just go on a rampage, go where you want, do what you want to do, no time limits, just cops and FBI to deal with. And then you can steal the FBI agent's car and shoot down helicopters and still get away scott free. Final Fantasy used to be a linear plot up to where you get the aircraft (a ship or whatever is airborne) and then you can go exploring anywhere you want to. Now it's all about the battle school or going to the next point in the game with little room to roam. And screw the card games, I don't like the random cards thing, I got my Ifrit card stolen and was like, "NO WAY, THIS SUCKS!" and stopped playing the cards. A game should involve some type of freedom. Games give us the sense of freedom and control over our lives that the real world does not. Random. This is off topic, so I'm outta here now. :)
neo7272003

I really liked the first one but since I live under a rock I never got to rent the second one but I'm going to make it through.

I can't believe I havn't noticed this thread before! As you can probably tell, I'm a massive fan. Snake Eater is gonna be the best thing ever.
