I have just recently noticed as I looked through the members list that about 90% of people registered have 0 or 1 posts. And have joined perhaps last year.
What is the reason for this?
Why register when you never post.
This was simply annoying me and maybe its just late and stupid of me but, why not unregister people who do not make a post within a month?
I mean your banning everyone else you might as well ban the time-wasters!
I might just be talking rubbish so you can delete this if it is but....
Can you at least answer and tell me your view?

P.S Just ignore this if you think it is a waste of time, don't fury me.
Some people post, some do not. There are any number of reasons for this.
I don't really feel strongly either way... delete em or not, but, keep in mind that:
There are several (i would say many) people who do come on regularly but do not post, only read. Some people wish to register so that they are "members" but are not wanting to put themselves out there with their opinions and ideas, just want to ponder ours.
Also, some members are seasonal i.e. some only have computers and internet at some points of the year. It is not fair to cancel somebody out in December because they haven't visited in 5 months, but maybe said person is at college, and only has freedom of net while at home for the summer... or perhaps somebody went overseas for a year, or is only home for the holidays, then will have to go back to wherever etc etc.
Yes, alot of people have registered, visited the site like 4 times, and never came back, but we have no way to know who exactly these are, and who are the ones who intend to come back, or those who only read.
Like I said Superman, we are not bannin their ip's or accounts. They can always reregister if they want. More usernames will come avaible to the new members, as a lot of good names are taken.
Registering is not a paintaking process, and I think this will encourage these people to post, to post their own opinion.

I'll ask Yakov how he sees this and i'll get back to you and tell you what the situation is.

What Terikan said was short and to the point, but it was directly related to the thread, so is not considered spam.
on vals point, it isnt spam, but double posting is, please remove one of them, you can use the same post for that
That's what the edit button is there for... Please keep that in mind... :) I don't think we should keep them, but I don't think they should be deleted either... I'm sort of in the middle concerning this. But it's Yakovs decision...
well i dont see the reason for deleting them if they never post, there not being a nuisense (sp?)
it is like they were never here in the first place.
all the easy matrix related names are taken. so new users if they whant a matrix related name have to try and make up one they like. or put alot of numbers (that sometimes looks silly) behind there name
i dont think u should ban ppl for that u see.
because some ppl just join to post there 1 question and then they wait for the answer. then if they see another Q they read they answer and they'll understand it.
Well, it's just about people who haven't posted at all. These people can always reregister, and it should encourage people to post. Especially now, when the board is getting less traffic, apart from the lounge, it's important that we encourage people to post.

i suppose ur rite u should ban ppl who have not got a single post to their name, but then angain i have not seen some one like that, mabye thats because there r none im not sure, but wat would be the point, i dont no.
Although it would be nice to have a name like Neo, Trinty, Morpheus, etc, (which are all simple and easy to remember), sometimes it's better to have something more unique for a username, something that fits you. We're not banning users who never post, that's the answer to this thread.
i dont get it who r u gonna ban, the ppl with unique names or ppl that dont post and copy the names from the movies completely
I was suggesting to ban people who haven't posted a single post after one month's time. This is very reasonable, and it won't mean people can't think of more original names anymore. People will just have more names avaible to them.
Now we just have names like Neo6262, or Morpheus4335, or that sort of thing. (I'm not trying to insult members with these names, btw). And that is not too original either.
I never said ban, I said delete their accounts. They can always reregister under the same, or a more origal name. It will only encourage them to post within a month's time.
I do not see the problem. It will only give a more accurate image of this site. Are we really trying to deceive people by saying we have 12000+ members?
I don't like deception...

You are assuming that we can do a mass ban, but that's just not possible. We're not banning anyone unless they spam the boards with terrible things or continuously break the rules, and that's it.
And again you use the word ban. I never said that. However if this is the decision of the board, I will bend like the willow. For flexibility is survival.

I'm going to say what needs to be said in here. It's needed to be said for a long time and since I understand the situation clearer (not crystal clear, but clearer) I guess I can say it now. This forum has a history, because it's a forum where users talk to each other, communication about something we're passionate about. The Matrix is for some just a movie, but when you go to a Matrix Forum it's more than just a movie to you. It was to me, and it was to everyone who ever visited this site. It has users who have been here developing relationships for a long time. And it is filled with the names of people who came before. We will not be deleting/banning any members even if they have not been here since May of 2003 and haven't even posted once because that is a signature left by those users who felt compelled to search for the answers of the Matrix. Sadly the users who have posted have joined other sites, stopped being interested in talking about the Matrix, etc. So now we're all here just trying to talk about the Matrix and develop those same relationships and we are constantly reminded of what came before because their posts are still here and we can read them. It's a wonderful forum we have here, and we still have people here after all this time who care enough about the Matrix to keep coming here and posting. If you're here and you're bored because there's no topics going at the moment, then you're free to download the mIRC program I recommended and come chat with us. I'm in the chatroom a lot and what else does a community do but chat? It will bring us closer together in the long run. Things have changed since the start of this forum, but the forum will be here and it's a wonderful forum, very easy to navagate through and search for what you want. If you have any questions about anything just send me a PM, I answer every one. :)
well, I'm not a regular poster, far from it. The reason for that is I do not have internet at the place where I am studying. So when I come home in weekends, I look at the most interesting topics and when I read them I start thinking: "I could reply this or that" but when I move on reading I see someone has already mentioned what I would have said, so it would be stupid to say the same thing again. I do not want to make a point here, just explaining one of the possible situations why people don't post. I understand that some people get annoyed of this. anyway, keep going guys: you simply rule!
We are not annoyed T.G.V., and I think Valasher hit the nail on the head there. Memories are important, and we should not let them be deleted for efficiency. We are not machines, after all, we need memories and emotions to live!

heres a possible solution:
when users register, make them agree to a statement that you (the moderators) will delete their name if they are not active for 60 days (notice i said active, they can browse the forums and not post.)
How can you tell if their active? just have a program or something tell how many times someone has logged in or something
Maybe you guys should also create an option under the control panel that a user could check "dormant" or something, in other words, those that are off at college or something could notify you guys that they will not be back for a while.
just a suggestion
sounds like a good idea to me
even though its strange that people at college dont post after all there are libraries and most people have computers in their dorm rooms
and that program sound like the feature when you look at someones profile it shows their last post date
but i think the 60 days should only apply to someone with 20 or less post's, because like Niva she (assuming she) just came back after 3 1/2 months but has nearly 400 post's it would be really messed up for someone with this many post to get their account deletedafter 60 days so for members with 100+ post it should be more like 120 days because chances are they will be coming back unless they state otherwise
well yes helios, of course we wouldn't want to erase peoples names who have contributed greatly.
I guess we can't do anythign now anyways, the moderators seem to be split on the subject
none of the moderators have even comented on "this" idea yet so well just have to see if one of them responds within the next couple of days or weeks :D
Our plan is not parallel to the suggestion mentioned at the beginning of this thread, but should changes occur, we will address it just as soon as it happens. But we are taking it into consideration.
View Full Version : Banning people who never post.
