Johnny Depp... the madman!

Valasher

Did anyone else notice that Johnny Depp seemed to be a mix between Keith Richards and Hunter S. Thompson in Pirates of the Carribean? Do you think he's on drugs? Because it kind of ruined the movie for me that he acted so much like Thompson, basically an extention of the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I got the Keith Richards part from my husband.
Jetfire

I think he was brilliant in P.O.T.C... He's a funny person.. Extremely funny...
Valasher

Well, yes, he is very amusing. And I've always admired him in all of his roles (Nightmare on Elm Street and some others excluded).

He did say Pepe Le Pew was also an inspiration, right?
DPD

but WHY IS THE RUM GONE!!?!?!??!
Valasher

Maybe I should rephrase the question. Does anybody even know who Keith Richards and Hunter S. Thompson are?
superman_0351

If I knew nothing about hunter thompson that would mean I 1. hadn't read anything 2. hadn't read the book inspiring the movie 3. that i had missed one of the greatest movies (and depp roles) of all time :).

As it pertains to POTC i think he probably brought back some of the old manurisms... actors and actresses do that alot I think (nic cage brought a little "face off" to "snake eyes", travolta brought a little "pulp fiction" to his charisma in "swordfish" etc etc).

And POTC was agreat movie... shame he won't get an oscar nod (as it's a shame with hugo weaving for smith, and jim carry for bruce almighty, or ellen degeneras for that forgetful fish in finding nemo [ironically, i have forgotten her name lol]).

I must steal DPDs post for my favorite line:

"but.... WHY...... BUT WHY....... BUT why the RUM!?!?!?!?"

..and when he was trying to coax the dog into giving him the keys :)

...and his overal persona in the flick ehehe
superman_0351

and yes V i know who keith richards is :) he is the ********* for the ******* ******... im not that young or naive :)
Valasher

Well, good that you know. Hunter S. Thompson is the father of Gonzo Journalism. But that probably doesn't mean anything to anyone here.

It really upset me that he was using the same mannerisms. I was thinking: did that pirate take mescaline? Or ether? Because he's acting like he inhaled SOMETHING.

Yes I think it was alchohol... It didn't show it tht much, but from his obvious liking of drinking, I think it was safe to say he was half hammered throughout the whole thing :)
Freddy Krueger

Ozzy Osbourne whants Johnny Depp to play him, in the up-coming movie about ozzy's life.

because ozzy thinks that johnny is a great actor and that he can give that 'wonderfull' brithis acent
Valasher

Ozzy is lame. I stumbled onto something horrible yesterday, it was Ozzy and his daughter Kelly singing 'changes' together. It was so awful I had to turn it off. Why is he selling out so badly? Yes he was good in Black Sabbath, and he was alright as a solo artist, but lately he reeks. And I don't know why he continues to keep on writing new music. Or why his daughter thinks that she can sing. I'll stop.
Freddy Krueger

i agree with you that kelly osbourne can't sing, she just screams some stuff and calls is here style of singing.

but i do think ozzy is still good. hey you must give him some slack about his singing now, he is 55 years old, and of course can't sing as good as he used to do.

but what i find funny in the serie The Osbournes he is walking around and talking like a old man, but when he is on stage he jumps around like he's 20 again
Ou Be Low hoo

my friend was on a plane from Canada to Hong Kong about a month ago and Keith R was on the very same plane...He ventured out of 1st class and went around the poor seats letting people get photos and autographs with him...My mate said he was wasted and looked like a madman...Good work, KR!

As Depp, he's brilliant in nearly every film he's in...I thought he was perfect as the drunken, drug-addled pirate in POTC.

AS for Fear and Loathing..."HOly Jesus! WHat are these god-damn animals."

"We were somewhere on the edge of Barstow when the drugs began to take control..."

Hunter is the perfect remedy to the banality of most authors...I mean...CLive CUssler anyone? Possibly the worst successful author of our time...He is merde.
Valasher

I thought Depp was perfect as Raoul Duke and Benicio Del Toro was the perfect Dr. Gonzo (he said he hated having to gain weight for the role). And Hunter himself is in the movie, when Depp says, "Holy ****, that's me!" I can't see anyone but Gilliam directing. It's hard to make a movie about drugs where you feel like you are actually experiencing those types of drugs while totally sober.

As Gilliam told Dreams in 1997, "I hope it makes a noise - I don’t want it to go unnoticed. A lot of people will get angry but they’ll probably get angry for the wrong reasons though. I actually don’t think it’s a drugs movie, strangely enough - if you make a film where people are at a bar drinking and smoking a lot, you don’t say it’s an alcoholics’ movie, or a smokers’ movie. It’s not about that. The fuel may be drugs just like in other movies, with Sam Spade the fuel may be alcohol and cigarettes. What we do is allow our characters to get caught in a distorted world, which is already distorted by reality. We make it an altered reality which may be for the better and sometimes for the worse, depending on how much you have just imbibed."
Valasher

Okay, so I tried to watch the whole movie POTC in one night, but unfortunately it took three nights as I kept falling asleep. Can't help my internal clock. I just love Johnny Depp. He is a madman. And he's also a Gemini, so I like that about him. It's nice to see that he's not the typical actor, and his role in this movie was very funny the whole way through. But he just kept reminding me of Raoul Duke (who is really noneother than Hunter S. Thompson).
Kaneda

I don't know what my favourite ever comedy/crazy film is i can't choose, it's either fear and loathing or spinal tap.

The first time i saw spinal tap i definately laughed more, i nearly died laughing, but i went back to fear and loathing a lot more, and thought it was classic.

I could never pick my favourite bit from fear and loathing though, there's just so many funny parts.

"What the f** are we doing out here in the middle of the desert? We need help, we need help!"

"Sweet jesus it's him!"

"Woah s***! WOAH S***!!!"

"We can't back out now, we're on the main nerve! Sit down, sit the f*** back down! Alright, i'll lend you some money."

"You took too much maaan, too much, too much..........."

Hey, did you guys notice this, you have to see it at least twice to get it : When they first check in in Vegas and Depp's character is wasted on sunshine acid, there's a guy on the phone talking about someone who'd just been killed. He say's something about the killer took out her 'adrenal gland' Then later on when they take the adrencrol, he says that he got it off some guy he knew, satanist freak. The stuff was from adrenalin glands, so maybe that was the person it was from!
Valasher

"You took too much maaan, too much, too much..........."

That was the part where Duke took the andreal gland secretious stuff, right?
Kaneda

Yeah it was, it was well funny!

Just to change the subject for a minute, when you get back in here can you check your PM's?!
