We all know these parts in the movie, right? We also know that if you suffer pain in the Matrix you suffer pain in the real world.
Does this mean that Morpheus should have a limp in the next movie because of the fact he got shot in the ankle?
Should Neo have a scar on his leg if we see any of his legs, after all, an agent shot him and we readly see the scar, or does neo have the uncanny ability to be invinceable?
I think it's more of a psychological pain rather than a physical. The matrix just stimulates parts of your brain to simulate you actually feeling pain.
It is possible that they could have scars in the matrix though, unless Neo and Morpheus specifically change their matrix forms to not show them. Interesting stuff
no, unless neo or morpheus see themselves with a scar when in the matrix, they won't show said scar. remember, their image in the matrix is just what they see themselves looking like, their resonant self image or whatever it's called.
Good post, good question.
My take on the matter is that each time you venture into the Matrix, you reset that image of yourself. Then, as you get dirty, wounded, whatever it adds to that image.
You then exit the Matrix, re-enter - it all starts over.
As far as wounds, I agree with Tom's answer. I would take it to be a phantom pain that when Morph comes out of the Matrix after getting shot in the ankle, that first minute out he will still feel the pain 100%. His body will react just the same as if he was shot in that adrenaline pulsing, area around wound contract to restrict bleeding - etc.
As time progresses, he comes back to reality more, he rubs the ankle in real life and sees no wound, the psychological effects would wear down to the point where there are no effects.

I like it when I am being agreed with. :D

Think Virtual Reality and laugh
I would have thought it was a phantom pain as well, that would gradually subside as your mind comes to realize the trauma it felt is now gone. I think the blood they show in the movie was uncessecary. ( I can't spel) I think Neo should've just rubbed his jaw instead of pulling out a bloody finger after having fallen during the jump program.
I wondered about that too with the bloody finger - I thought maybe it was from clenching his teeth too hard or biting his tongue or something along those lines.
To be more realistic, I think he should have come out of the jump program with peed in pants. :)

Yes, I'm sure the ratings will go up when the see "NEO 2: Bigger and Better, THis Time with HUggies Diapers"-*Each ticket comes with you very own diaper to catch the experience Neo feels in the movie :p
lol, yeah... Good point. :)

Well, if the matrix makes you feel the pain, and suffer from the effects in the real world, would the pain last in the real world after exiting the matrix, causing you to have the scar after and making.....THIS IS FREKING POINTLESS!! WATCH THE MATRIX: RELOADED TRAILER AND GET YOUR AWNSER!!
You forget your meds today? :) Relax man! Welcome too.
It was a good theoretical question, lots of people have put their two cents in on the matter, and no where in the trailor for M2 do I see them talk about real life scars coming from Matrix injuries.

...Well since I do not recount any injuries to Neo or the others in the "real" world, I'd suppose there would be no effects on their true body besides pain. Think of the Matrix as being in one of those Virtual Rwality Helmets with the gloves and everyhting where yuo can move like you really would. Just add neurounits that send a shock to your nerbvous system making you feel pain when you get shot in the head in the VR, making it seem more realistic. You do not suffer any effects yo your real body, but you have expreicned pain. Now then you people would probably bring up the whole dying factor. In the movie, even with their life support systems and cable jacks on and whatnot, if killed in the MAtrix, people die in real life. How is that so you ask? Well ahve you ever ehard of people dying in their sleep becuase they dream about falling, and while they dream they actually hit. Same thing. With enough mental persuasion or illusion, your mind could cause pain or even death. When Mouse and the others were shot, both their subconscous and their conscoius mind probably beleived they were really shot, and the brain commanded the organs to shut down, assuming they were dead already. Running out of room...will return...
if the pains in the mind y did neo bleed when he fell in the jump program
What happens to Neo and the others when they are hurt inside the Matrix is called a psychosomatic effect ... which are phisycal responses of you body to psychological processes ...
when someone believes too deeply that something is happening the body actually responds to it with symptoms ...
In the real world , girls who believe they are pregnant might actually stop having their period and gain wheight...
thatīs what morpheus mean by "the body cannot live without the mind" ...
Some theories say that this is the reason why we usually canīt dream of our own death. We usually wake up moments before hiiting the floor in a fall, for example.
Other , lighter, examples of psychosomatic effects are the body postures we assume when sad or pissed. If we are sad, for instance we, uncontiously, arch our backs. And if we are proud of ourselves we tend stand taller.
So getting hurt on the Matrix, when you are awake and concious, should cause psychosomatic effects as it seems "too real" not to be true.
Neo, after seeing the matrix as it is, have the chance of not going through this as he is the only one that, while inside the Matrix, is fully aware of the fact that it is not real. The other are somewhat aware but not as much or they would be able to do the same. Itīs kinnda like our fears ... we know most of them arenīt real but we still cannot control ourselves totaly. Neo would be the one who "really" knows the he has nothing to fear inside that Matrix as it is not real.
Nice question,
Carlos (from Brazil)
There are two parts that do not do along withthe whole phatom pain idea.
1) After the jump program Neo's mouth bleeds.
2) With he gets knocked flat on his stomach by Agent Smith in the subway and comes away with blood, In the real world does he not cough up blood?
Yeah I think that Neo being the One could heal any wound I mean he did it once when he died and came back why would he not be able to do it again?
Now as for Morpheus I think that he might habe a huge baseball sized bruse on his shin, where he got shot, but no acutally cut or bullet graze will be shown in the real world. Due to the fact that you can not just think of split skin and get a split in your sink. That is a physical thing. The matrix is not physical but electrical that is why you can die inteh matrix because the electrical currents that your brain sends off stops in the matrix and in the real world and.... " The body can not live with out the mind."
Do scars show up from the Real World?
No. Proof: When Neo first went back into the matrix after being taken out, he was bald. Once he entered he had a full set of hair!
Why does he bleed when experecing pain the the Matrix?
Morph said the mind makes it real. Though this has flaws i think it's good enough for a movie. Later in the movie this is proven because when neo gets shot bullet holes don't suddenly apear in his stomach.
Ok, if you get shot in the head then you die right? But what if you 'know' that you are not dead. Like the 'Dont think you are, Know you are!' saying.
Why would this not work?
This works as long as you are inside the Matrix.
Thatīs why Neo doesnīt die when he gets shot at the end of the Movie ... No phisycal body response because he knows (he realizes) that it isnīt real... No psychosomatic response in this case. Thaīs what "brings him back from the dead" and not Trinityīs sleeping-beauty-like-kiss. Her kiss is only her reassurance that he cannot be dead as he is the ONE.
In the real world it wouldnīt work because then itīs a real shot and not only in the Matrix.
Itīs something that not all of them can do because the Matrix is supposed to be "ultra-real". Hard to know that you are not being shot when you cann see, hear and feel it, all the "eletronic impulses" that form our perception of reality.
Neo is the ONE because he can realize it and truly know it to all its extents. "There is a difference between knowing the way and walking the way". The others Know the way, but, only Neo, has walked the way.
And thatīs something thatīs been puzzling me ? Can Neo die in the Matrix now? If he has come back from the dead already. There isnīt much point why he should fear or fight anything inside the Matrix. Ha knows they are not real and canīt hurt them.
Agree ?
Carlos
Morpheus got shot.. Neo got shot.. ppl get hurt.. but in the Real.. there is no actual bullet going through your body.. therefore it cannot leave a Scar behind.. all pain is generated only by what your mind tells your body... and can send pain to that area of the body.. ... .. You could be cut into a million pieces in the matrix.. but in real.. you would be in one piece.. just dead because your mind believed it died..
Also.. because this is the Matrix and nothing is real inside of the program.. its possible to simply believe there is no pain.. this is not real.. nothing can hurt me. if the mind believes all that.. nothing can hurt you.. kinda like being the one.. but in any case.. any mind can be capable of that.. only some minds are stronger than others.. How much FEAR do u have in your mind.. Fear is very controling and can cause the most pain in the real..
Looks can be Deceiving... so don't believe what u see in the matrix.. your in control.. just like a dream
View Full Version : You suffer pain in the matrix.. you suffer pain in the real world. Right? Interesting
