Neo Trenchcoat vs. Neo Cassock

In Matrix 1 Neo wears a trenchcoat, in Matrix 2-3 he wears a Cassock/Priest Robe. Does anyone know what the explanation is, maybe in Enter the Matrix or something, of why Neo changes costumes between films? I do prefer the Cassock now over the trenchcoat/t-shirt/cargopants from the original.

Yeah, the cassock makes him look way cooler

i dont think there is an explanation jsut a little differnce of costume, maybe the borthers thought it looked cooler
it might have something to do with columbine though, but yea i sweat the cassock so much, neo is the man

Naw...his cassock looked better IMO.....

He looks more seamless, more defined, so to speak....

The trenchcoat outfit made him look gritty and rough...even though that's not bad neither.....but, the cassock looked MUCH more badass!

Neo's trenchcoat look was badass, but I think the cassock does make him a bit more clean, sleek, more put together, like an actual "costume". I actually think it's more functional too as far as fighting goes, and the flared bottom on the cassock lends itself to flapping in the wind when he flies really well, but I can see how some would like the trenchcoat look better, being much more rugged looking, which was appropriate back when Neo had to use guns to fight with, now he has no need for weapons.

yea his costume does show a gradual change in character(his awakening) it thikthe trenchcoat is appropriate for gun fighting but the cleaner cassock was so bad ass for the chatau fight, his character is jsut great, real strict and i cant explain it JUST BADD ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Look at how you mentioned "Priest Robe"...is that what a cassock is? I don't really know (and for sake of not looking it up =P), but to me, if it IS a priest robe, then it would also fit w/ what Neo is to the story in the last 2 movies....

Since M1, Neo became the "one", thus he believed he could do whatever he was meant to do....Obviously, he believed in the prophecy Morpheus told him, and since then, he greatly helped in freeing minds from the Matrix....

You could say that him wearing the "priest robe" is like a priest himself believing in his religion (like Neo to the Prophecy)....So, since Neo is a free'er of minds, and a believer in the prophecy, his image was therefore altered to better 'suit' who he is (no pun intended)....ADD to the fact he looks MUCH more badass, and the cassock works well with his hand-2-hand combatant skillZorZ... >=D

Yes a Cassock is a Priest Garment and yes this does make sense he should be wearing a religious robe given his journey through Matrix 2-3.

Neo was also badass when he actually used rifles and other weapons too...

I liked it just because its the first main character that is a warrior and wears a robe without being to priestly, and his trenchcoat creeped me out when it shined.

i agree with what most people are saying. the cassock gives him a more confident, empowered, clean cut look and is probably more functional too now that he doesnt need to conceal weapons or anything. But both are for diffrent purposes and he looks pretty kick ass in both

Neo had to wear the trenchcoat in M1, because how else would he be able to hide all them guns? The cassock would so give it all away...

Trenchcoat gets my vote, becasue it's more.....dunno more ruggerd more destiguishing I'd say, a bit more greebo and I like that

Yeah, they all go changes. Trinitys is a bit more hugging, Morpheuss coat is cooler. neo wears a priest thing...it's all to do with the changes that they have made within themselves, and to reflect that, the Wachs changed them. Actually they didn't change them, this women from Christmas Island designed them but u no what I mean....

regal, and an outward extension of the change that occured when Neo realized he was the one.

I believe that the change in coats shows off the change in his fighting styles from M1 to M2. The Trench coat would be better for hiding his guns in the lobby scene and looked better visually in the battle. Since he no longer needs to use guns he has switched to the cassock which is better for hand to hand combat.

Didnt like the trench coat look, the coat he wears when he wakes up in the station is my favourite. The priest like costumes I think is very cool. Why does he wake up in those clothes? Is it because some how he knows he isnt the strongest there?
The Merv is probably the best design though, the red shirt looked very smart.

trench coat: cool
priest look: ok it resembled a dress kinda
train station: looks like the first time he saw the oracle but cool

i think he looked the nicest in the trainstation outfit and in the cossock. nice and sleek, v. sexy.

while we're on the subject of characters looks, did you all notice that trinitys hairstyle changed between one ad two (more sleek in m2), and so did her sunnies?

Hmm. There're a couple of good reasons I can find:
1. The multi-racial thing. The coat's a copy of an Indian wedding outfit, and we have elements of every race incorporated in the movies.

2. Religion. Neo's a savior; naturally, he's gotta look like one.

3. Reflection of Neo's attitude: undefeatable cassock; unsure, vulnerable trench.

Personally, I'd go with the cassock. It's...distinguished. :)

The change of his outfit is change of his mind, his self-image. Methelael and Oracle said that clearly: “You turned out alright, didn’t you.”

My favorite is long Cassock. You can see grace and charm whenever he moves. Love it.

i think the cassock looks waaay cooler than the coat, it gave him a badass attitude look. Also my brother is a priest and when he saw the M1 he love the outfit, but when m2 came out, he went nuts for the fact that neo was wearing priest clothes.
I have a couple of his black robes here at home, they make a really cool Halloween costume, jejeje, anyway, m2 and m3 looks are way better than m1, in my opinion that is.

I think the cassock is way cooler. He looks more sleek and sophisticated. It gives a sense of piety. The trenchcoat was okay, but it gave him a more rough, rugged look. He came into the gov't building in M1 like arnold schwartzeneger or somebody. In M2 and M3, Neo is beyond bearing guns and amunition. Now is amunition is his mind. He does not need any armor.

With that said, Keanu would look good in a paper sack if it came to it. I think he looks cool in whatever he wears, but the cassock is my fav.

Hmmm its so hard to choose but I'd go w/......what he's wearing in M2 and M3. *of course hes hot wearing pretty much everything* LOL
