this is taken from another site but
"The ending of Neo is remarkebly similar to the end of King Arthur in the Arthurian Legends. Arthur killed Mordred, leader of the army that was tearing apart Arthur's kingdom, in a one on one fight, but was mortally wounded. He was then borne on a barge to the "Isle of Avalon" to be healed. It also says that he would 'sleep until he was needed again'. Neo is "mortally wounded" (has his 'self' nearly destroyed) in the one on one battle with Smith, the leader of the army that is tearing apart the Matrix, and ends up being borne away, with us not truly knowing if he is alive or dead, to be 'healed' of his wound. The Oracle/Seti also says that they "might someday see him again".
Interesting Observation there. I tip my hat to you Deus Ex Machina.
wow...that may be the best arguement to him being alive I've ever heard....I like that...I like that alot...
nice try deus ex machina but you TOTALLY RIPPED THAT OFF FROM MOVIE MISTAKES.COM atleast aknowledge the site before trying to seem like a smart@ss which by the looks of things you clearly arent
im sorry im in a bad mood, dont take any offense to that, you brought up a really good connection
well i said i got it from another site but i couldent remember where (i'm typing an essey for school on the Arthurian Legends and that site poped up so i copyed it down into my notepad and forgot which site it was from)
Thanks for that Deus. I was reading Arthurian myths a couple of weeks ago. It's good to see that connection.
I was certain that the whole Matrix story was a ripoff of "Monty Python's Holy Grail." Who is King Arthur?
Rar, neuromancer! I hope you don't rip me a new one for posting the exact same thing in a thread with a link to moviemistakes.com. LOL. There's no fact to this post though, we can only speculate. Isn't speculation fun? I'd like to think that Neo lies in wait for the future.

dont sweat it valasher, i just wasnt reading carefully and i didnt see a reference so i decided to to vent some anger on a poor bystander, my bad
This is not based on an Arthurian legend or anything (though that was a good point Deus). But, I was just thinking about how they shot people dying in the Matrix movies. It occured to me that everyone who we know for sure died in the movies was not referred to again by the camera. For instance, we know Cypher dies in Matrix 1, everyone accepts it. After Tank shoots him with the EMP gun, we never see, hear from, or hear of him again. When Apoc and Switch die, they die. No more camera time for them. In Revolutions, when Trinity dies, after she dies, no more camera time. The audience isn't shown any of Neo's memories of Trinity. She's dead. When Neo destroys Smith, no more mention of Smith. His code is destroyed and all is done. HowEVER, when it is supposed that Neo dies, the movie does not go back to Zion and focus on the peace between humans and machines and Morpheus and Niobi. The movie makes sure to show the audience a lingering image of Neo being carried away by a machine, they show a (relatively) long, upclose shot of Neo's face. They LINGER on Neo much longer than they did on Cypher, Apoc, Switch, Trinity, or Smith. Based on this, I don't think anyone can say with CERTAINTY that they are SURE Neo is dead. I think this at least lends itself to a doubt as to the certainty of Neo's death.
I did wonder about that. Even if Neo is dead dead dead for all time, where were they taking his body so carefully? Why show them carry him away, why don't the machines say "Okay, he's dead, chuck him into the old incinerator...". But no, they carry him away, to where?
Hmmm...Do you not think they 'lingered' on Neo because he is the main focus of the whole story and not a supporting character?
Neo is dead. Plain and simple. However, I think the original poster has some valid points. I was trying to think "why does this seem familiar" when at the end of Revolutions, and that was it. In Excalibur it showed a similar scene at the end as Arthur is sailed away. I think it is very probable that they might have been considering that when they wrote the part. It fits well (and we know the WB's use of other literary works and legends intertwined in these movies).
I understand the reasons for humans to carry a human as a hero when he has done something significant, but why would machines carry off a human hero? Do they too understand the greatness of what he has done if he really is dead?
View Full Version : hey sompthing interesting pointed out
