tbh u guys, i think we're goin to have repercussions similar to the matrix not far from now.. consider this:
1. Computers are becoming greater and greater all the time
2. Humans will run out of idea's to upgrade
3. computers are already programmed to think for themselves

... its a crazy theory but i believe before long we may have some seri0us problems...

i understand what u mean there, but if computers start thinking for themselves, they'll know what they need... they'll obtain it and build... i not sayin that it would be like the matrix cuz i doubt it could come to that but... the idea of computers thinking and building though...
although my idea seems kinda reasonable to me, it sounds pretty stupid when i type it... but i cant explain exactly what i mean, its confusing me...

Please. To the AI, we are God. We can set parameters to what an AI can do. It's not like those little japanese dogs will start plotting against man if you give them enough memory...

but people are programming computers too clever... they will start to stretch these parameters that we set... if people aren't careful parameters will be broken... we aren't god to AI at all because AI has no religion or emotion or what to feel...

There is no way that we can know for certain what the future holds. Well, maybe Madame Cleo, no seriously. The possibilities for A.I. are endless. I don't feel that the wholesale takeover portrayed in The Matrix will occur, but there is definitely the possibility that we will experience problems in the future.

I think the biggest problem with A.I. is the negative image it has garned through pop culture. Look at movies like The Matrix and fictional novels like Prey, Utopia, and Midnight that show A.I. as being this ultimate evil.

A.I. will do as its programmed. And this is why we need to set the parameters now before something does happen. The human mind is too complex to understand, so there is no way that A.I. will ever be able to be as smart as humans, but more efficient yes. Who knows what will happen in the future. All we can do is wait and see and if that doesn't happen soon enough or you get bored call Madame Cleo...

i understand what u mean.. i kno i seem like a f00l atm, but i understand that atm AI is neither evil or good, its neutral because it has not the power or intelligence to make decisionsas to join sides... evil or good etc..

If A.I is truly A.I. than it won't be programmed to do anything, but be a free independent system. That is the idea to have it think for itself and not be programmed for boundries. Sure you could put boundaries on it, but then it wouldn't really be considered A.I. The only boundaries that you could put on A.I. that wouldn't be going against the definition would be moral boundaries such as killing, stealing and so on.

i kno it seems silly but i think we need to start at getting a hold on the AI now, because if its left and left, it will develop if it is 'intelligent' then it will soon learn to multiply..

i was reading about a computer that has successfully created its own virus and can send it.. so if computers are starting to create viruses (i think the virus was in C++ but don't quote me on that?? not sure), but if they are making viruses in known programming languages, then what happens when they create a programming language we don't understand??

Now that is slightly disturbing. There is a definite possibility that computers will develop their own language that we won't be able to understand. I'm not saying its probable, but it is definitely a possibility. I hope that it doesn't occur anytime soon because I don't think we are ready to combat anything of that nature.

It would be interesting to see what kind of language they would develop. Probably something mathematical. Could you imagine trying to figure out what the computers mean? It would be like trying to figure out the Egyptian hieroglyphs, only much worse.

Who the hell knows what will happen. I hope that A.I. develops, I just hope that we will be prepared for it when that eventually happens. Becasue A.I. will develop, it's just a matter of when.

true true, AI will of course develop over time.. but will it be near future or long term, i don't think we will be prepared for anything that AI has in-stall for us..

i think that the Matrix films have planted the seed of AI causing problems, but i'm not sure if that how it will happen, if events will happen as they do in the matrix... the problem is though people have become over dependant on computers, people run entire businesses on the internet if AI was to get a hold on this, and stop internet, then we would have the problem's of cash flow to begin with, then it would turn to hunger etc... so AI could even possibly beseige us as apposed to attacking with robots etc..

it gets worse when people keep posting because i keep getting more idea's 8/

That's kind of disturbing that they can make viruses now. I think this thread is on the right track. If A.I. does ever decide to take over I think that this is most likely what will happen. I've never thought about them creating there own language. It would kind of be like going back in time if that happened because in WWII German U-boats had some kind of special code that we had to break before we could track them and sink them. Well not necessarily going back in time, but history repeating itself.

the virus was made in a known programming language, but scientists think that the same computre could create its own programming language, which if does happen could cause a problem...

Then again though if that computer made it's own programming language then it would have to teach it to other machines so that the viruses it was writing worked in their systems. And if it had to teach it to them then we could probably find those instructions and learn it too. It could always try to encode even the instructions, but that would probably take a long time and we could probably still figure it out. Now that I've thought of this the idea of it making its own language isn't as scary, but you never know it could be pretty hard to crack.

i'm sorry, i dont mean to discourage you from your discussion but most of your theories are exaggertion.

i kno its exageration... but we never know what will happen in the future, but with the way things are going we could end up with repercussions inflicted by AI i believe
