The Matrix: Explained 2.0

WE WERE GIVEN ALL WE NEED TO KNOW

Disclaimer: Foremost, I would like to say that I am not submitting this series of posts with the notion that I am 100% right or the definitive last word. I am not setting anyone straight, righting the wrongs, or implying disrespect to anyone else’s view. I hope readers enjoy my perception.

Preliminary Provisions:
1. Too often in attempting to analyze the Matrix we fall into the trap of searching for "Why?" The Merovingian discuss “Why” in Reloaded. Ultimately, it is said that to know "Why" is to have ultimate power. If any of us, in this world, could always answer "Why", then we could unlock the secrets of the universe. Alas, we can’t. It is not a copout. It’s fact. It is the "Why" that drives us, as Trinity said in so many words in the beginning of the first film. “What is the Matrix?” Neo asks, "What", in his search for "Why". We must ask ourselves that if we find the answer to Why, will the nature of existence be altered. Many times people are stating that they know "Why", but what they do not realize is that they are simply describing "How". "How" is cause and effect. The Merovingian goes on and on about this, for even he can only break things down as far as "How". This is true in our world. Religion serves as an explanation for "Why": God. Because "Why" is far above our intellectual standing at this point in our evolution. The Brothers factored this truth into their story perfectly. If you do not agree or accept this, you will have problems with certain aspects of the story and overcomplicate them as well.

2. We must accept that we received every bit of information that we needed to understand this story. Many users have been annoyed by the “4th movie” discussions. This is because many feel as though they were cheated out of receiving vital information about the story. However, we were told and shown everything we needed to hear and see in order to embrace this story. If you do not accept this, you will have problems with certain aspects of the story, and overcomplicate them as well.

Postulates:
1. The Oracle is a program written to understand human emotions.
2. Already, at the time we were brought into the story by the Brothers, the Matrix had ran seven times producing six anomalies.
3. The nature of the anomaly is directly correlated with the unpredictable behavior of human emotions fueled by choice. (free will-an inherent part of our nature)
4. The prophecy is a link that bridges the gap between logic and emotion in order to control the anomaly’s choice making. It was developed by the Oracle as part of her solution to controlling the free will aspect of human nature.
5. The answers to the questions of Smith, Seraph, Persephone, and Merovingian are not as complicated as we would like to think.
6. Oracle did not plan EVERYTHING from the BEGINNING.
7. On this number, Neo rested
Read on seeing past the parameters of your mind.

The Matrix:
The first film brings us into the story during the seventh cycle of the Matrix and introduces us to the sixth anomaly, Neo a.k.a. Thomas Anderson. Morpheus is searching Neo because he was told by the Oracle that he would find the One. This represents the anomalous search from the Oracle’s side. Agent Smith is also searching for Neo. Smith was designed from the beginning to contain or destroy the anomaly. This represents the search from the Architect’s side. Remember the Architect is a source program within the network mainframe directly run by the machines. His primary function, after creating the Matrix based on the information given to him by the machines, is to balance the equation of the Matrix through the various means of his programming. We will delve into this more as we press on.
The next concept we are introduced to in this first installment of the story is the concept of “choices”. Neo makes a series of choices in exercising his free will. We take the importance of these choices for granted at first. First, Neo rejects Agent Smith’s proposal by giving him the finger and asking for his phone call. In retrospect, we can see how the agent programs, created by the Architect, under the direction of the Machines, do not understand the choice that Neo has made. It is clear from their whole approach to Neo that they do not understand human nature. The agent’s and Architect’s failure to understand human nature reflects the Machine’s failure to understand human nature. The next significant choice Neo makes is the red pill or the blue pill. Many times throughout this story Neo is told that he has already made the choice and now he has to understand it. This is the choice that is referenced by these statements. To sidebar here, many people have asked many different questions about the mirror scene. There is significance to events within. Neo simply thinks about the mirror in a repaired state and the mirror mends itself. If you notice the expressions on everyone’s face when this happens, you can infer that they are intrigued by the possibility that Neo can manipulate the Matrix so early in his understanding of it. He is not even fully unplugged yet. Neo does not even believe it and he still defers to “Matrix-rule” thinking in pondering why the mirror was able to do that. He figured it must not be solid but pliable, thus, the hallucination of it liquefying over him. His mind manipulated it. Neo kept thinking that the mirror was doing it on its own. Ironically, as he thought that he was facilitating his own manipulative power over it. It was a very interesting and insightful scene.
The next significant choice was whether to save Morpheus or not. This choice is important because it brings up a logical string of thought in all of Neo’s choice making: No one has ever done this before that is why it is going to work. (we’ll mention more of this later)
Now of course other characters in this story made choices too, but the ones made by Neo are the most significant as they facilitate the rest of the choices made. There really is no right or wrong choices in this story. This correlates to the cause and effect theory existing throughout the story and brought to light by the Merovingian. Every choice will produce result: Every cause has an effect: Every beginning has an end. If you choose to clean your house, the cleaning of your house will inexorably come to some end. Will the end be a clean house? Partly clean house? No cleaning at all? The decisions you make after the initial decision to clean will determine the outcome. Some end will result and whether it is the best end is a matter of perception. Neo’s choices were the initial choices facilitating choices made by other characters that concurrently and inexorably led to a conclusion.
This first film introduces one of the most powerful “X-factors” of human nature associated with free will: Love. The film introduces how love will affect the story. The user, Terikan, states in his “The Matrix: Explained 1.0” that “Love and freedom are valuable”. These two values are the motivations driving the story. At the end of the first film, we see the first climactic struggle of logic and emotion: the death and resurrection of Neo. Part of what makes Neo the anomaly is the code he carries that enables him to be an exception to the rules of the Matrix. When Agent Smith shoots Neo, the rules of the Matrix stipulate that Neo must die of his fatal gunshot wounds. If Neo had not fallen in love with Trinity, he most likely would have and the sixth anomaly would have ended right there. How? Because one of the basic principles of logic is to defer to the simplest answer, or in other words, the path of least resistance. Most of the time human beings behave this way. Not sure? Think of the last big decision you made for yourself and ask how you came to that choice. We will choose a path of greater resistance when our passions, our emotions dictate our choice making. After all that Neo had already seen, he was ready to believe that the Matrix is not real and that the rules can be broken and altered. He was ready because how could he let himself die and be away from Trinity when it doesn’t have to be that way. Neo said this very same thing to Trinity and Tank when he decided to go back into the Matrix to save Morpheus. His love motivated him, it drove him to believe that he did not have to die. This is how he tapped into the code he carried allowing him to see the Matrix for what it really was which then led him to be able to manipulate it.
Anomolous

In the end, we think Smith is gone, killed by Neo. Later we learn that what Neo did was free Smith from the rules of the Matrix. He did not change Smith’s purpose. Neo is free from the rules of the Matrix because of the line of code he carries. He imprinted this “rule-exception” code onto Smith.
Now let’s deal with some loose end before we move on. Many question Smith’s dialogue when left alone in the interrogation room with Morpheus. We receive our first hint that there was a previous version of the Matrix. We also receive our first hint of self-awareness of a program. This is the first time we see Smith “break character” if you will. He behaves and speaks almost as if he were human. His desire to “get out of this place” is quite an obvious sign that he has evolved past the original parameters of his programming during his time counteracting the anomaly. He shows humanistic traits as he, in a way, “goes crazy” from performing the same purpose over and over again, or more specifically, the sixth time. Next, I have heard others question the reason for obtaining the codes to Zion’s mainframe. Well, this was just one possible solution, one possible choice the machine’s could have made to destroy Zion for the sixth time. The choices by others, namely Neo, Morpheus, etc, did not facilitate this choice for the Machines. The Machine’s next choice is to drill as we all know. Last, there have been extreme amounts of posts regarding the phone call at the end of the first film. I have already said in other posts that I believe this phone call theory is false. Many people, including the user Terikan, have cited the dates of the phone calls that open and close the first film as proof of the time that has elapsed. (refer to Terikan’s “The Matrix: Explained 1.0”-second to the last paragraph-last few lines) I read on a chat interview with the Brothers at, www.matrixrevolutionsthemovie.com, that the date of the ending phone call, 9/18, is a birth date. One of the brothers has a wife whose birthday is September 18. When I read this, I was quick to dismiss any deep significance of this phone call. I believe it to be a technique of foreshadowing just like the phone call in the beginning of the film and nothing more. I do believe that the phone call theory was a keen observation and a lot of fun to read about.

Reloaded:
The Oracle is a self-teaching program written to understand the emotional aspects of human nature. She was created by the Machines to facilitate a solution to the imbalance problem of the first Matrix that led to its failure. Through her contact with humans in the Matrix, she learned that the problem was choice. She learned about the free will of human beings that is inherent to our nature. Quite simply, we define our reality by the choices we make. Without choice, we reject what we experience as fantasies or dreams. We resort to denial. The Oracle’s findings led the Architect to re-program the Matrix to facilitate this concept of choice. Obviously, we make choices that produce positive and negative outcomes and we make choices with logic, emotion, or both. Thus, a perfect Matrix, as the architect’s programming originally called for, could not be possible given that it is supposed to reflect human’s view of reality.
The reprogramming of the Matrix based on the Oracle’s findings allows for acceptance by the humans within; however, an inevitable anomaly still arose. The Oracle derives another solution based on human emotion to bridge the gap between logic and emotion: the Prophecy. This solution feeds off of human hope. It also facilitates human choice to believe in something or not. The Prophecy is a setup of choices intended to control the path of the anomaly. (more on this later)
The Oracle becomes self-aware. Her sign above the kitchen door in the first film, that translates: Know Thyself, is a little hint about this. In this seventh cycle of the Matrix, she uses the Prophecy and the concept of choice therein to facilitate what she now wants: freedom. She wants what everyone else wants: freedom from the level of control they are under. Another big hint as to her self-awareness is the fact that you can see her. In the park bench scene, she tells Neo that he doesn’t see the programs doing their jobs, you wouldn’t even know they were there, as she makes reference to the program controlling the behavioral patterns of the pigeons she was feeding. What about the agents? There job is to eliminate and/or control the anomaly. Until they do that, they have not done their job, or fulfilled their purpose, in other words. We can see them as a result. Now seeing them is not all we need to know they are self-aware. Smith is the only agent that became self-aware in this story. We must also see their choices of action and remember “choices” mean something completely different to programs than to humans. I am not playing with words to suit my ideas. Word meanings have many levels, many connotations and denotations. Words are just words. This is covered by the dialogue of Seti’s father in the beginning of Revolutions. (more on this later) The Oracle is not doing her job by making different choices within the parameters of the Prophecy. These different choices coupled with choices by other characters facilitate a different outcome. For example, she tells Trinity that she would fall in love and that man would be the One. This changes the decisions, and the circumstances that arise from these decisions, facilitating a different outcome for this Matrix than the five previous ones she was involved with. How long has she been aware? She always has been. From her first appearance in the second Matrix to the seventh, her primary function was to learn human nature. Thus, the concept of free will along with other aspects of human character became an inherent part of her functional programming. She can never fulfill her purpose, because it is impossible to know everything about human nature, particularly, the “Why” factor. It was unavoidable for the Oracle to “not do her job”, and to be seen. Yet, she did not plan everything out from the beginning. She simply made different choices using her knowledge of free will within the parameters of the Prophecy. She always wanted freedom from the level of control she was under, but the overall series of choices did not lead to the outcome she wanted until the seventh Matrix. It is said that the Oracle has many enemies. This is true. Remember, the Machines do not understand human nature at all. All they see are mathematical threats to the stability of the Matrix. Ironically, they would create programs to seek and destroy the Oracle, as her facilitation of choice for humans is still an unstable solution for the Matrix and the probability for Matrix failure still exists. The Machines cannot calculate the “Why” factor. They do not understand.
Many have wondered how could there only be six Matrixes as they try to correlate a reference to the Book of Genesis in the Bible, in which the world was created in six days and on the seventh He rested. This confusion is a result of the citing of six anomalies, and the destruction of Zion six times, in the story. What is not realized is that there were seven cycles of the Matrix and six anomalies. The first Matrix was the “perfect Matrix” that failed. Its failure did not depend on an anomaly like Neo. The whole darn thing crashed. Everyone rejected or wanted to reject it. The anomalies as we know them (Neo) did not exist until the second Matrix when it was finally programmed to represent what humans accepted as reality. Thus, the Prophecy was not needed until the second Matrix; therefore, we have one less anomaly than we do Matrix cycles. So, those that want that biblical reference can have it, as balance is finally achieved and Neo rests on the seventh day, or in other words, the seventh Matrix.

Many have questioned whether Zion was created by the Machines. It was not. It is where the surviving humans from the initial outbreak of war fled to escape capture and incarceration by the Machines. Also, it was made clear in the story that the center of the Earth is one of the few remaining places where the climate is tolerable for human survival. Scorching the sky has produced a cold and lifeless environment on the Earth’s surface. This can only serve to explain why there are still natural born humans without plugs. Ironically, the machines must allow Zion to exist under varying levels of control in order to facilitate the survival and stability of the Matrix. The name Zion is significant. Zion was the former name of the city on the hill now called Jerusalem. Zionism is a movement aimed at returning exiled Jews back to their homeland to form a strong unity. Interesting, huh? I’m sure most of you probably have looked this up, but just in case some hadn’t. And there is more to learn about the significance of Zion. I am not getting into everything here. Look it up. It’s fun.
Many make the mistake of asking, “Why does the anomaly happen?” We can only know how it happens. Seriously, we cannot answer why it happens, because we cannot answer why our emotions happen. Be careful………someone out there is saying, “Yeah, well this guy was hittin’ on my girl the other night, so I got angry and kicked his butt.” This is not “Why” you became angry. This is “How” you became angry. Cause and effect. The anomaly is directly correlated with the unpredictable behavior of human emotions fueled by choice, an aspect of free will that is inherent to our nature. The anomaly exists because not even the “precise” and “perfect” Machines can understand the “Why”. They can only understand “How”. This command leads to this result. Cause and effect. Since free will is inherent to our nature, the anomaly is inherent to the programming of the Matrix, as its programming is supposed to facilitate our reality. It is funny how we are the center of the universe, so to speak, in a twisted sort of way. Neo’s visit to the architect demonstrates the Oracle’s solution. The anomalies before him obviously chose the door that completed the Matrix’s cycle. Logically, they chose the path of least resistance thinking that was the best choice for mankind. They did not have a reason to resort to an emotionally based decision to choose the other door. Neo had to save Trinity. She was in the Matrix so Neo did not consider any other choice but to help her. Once again, he chose because he knew it did not have to be this way. Trinity did not have to die and Zion did not have to be destroyed again. Also, we come back to that logical string in Neo’s choice making: no one has ever done this before which is why it is going to work. Now it is reasonable to think that if Trinity were not in the Matrix, perhaps Neo would have chose the other door and selected Trinity as one of the 23 humans to rebuild Zion. Different choices were made this time by everyone.
Let’s look at some of the characters in this film. Merovingian is a historical reference to the first Frankish Empire in Europe during the time of the Roman Empire. One of the rulers was name Merov. His name was adopted to label the kingdom as the Merovingian Empire. In the film, the Merovingian is a communications program. This is how it is his business to know all that is going on. It is how he controls the many hidden pathways within the Matrix. He seems to be the leader of the program underworld.
His wife Persphone is an interesting character. Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter in Greek mythology. She was abducted by Hades and taken to the underworld. She came to be the goddess of life/rebirth and the goddess of death. In the film, her name gives insight as to the plight of her character. She is trapped in a situation that first seemed promising but is now a dead end. Her kiss with Neo made her remember the days of promise in her existence. It could also have been a kiss of life and death.
Next is the mighty Seraph. Seraphim is a Hebrew word meaning, “burning ones” and it refers to the highest order of angels. This may explain his appearance as golden light to Neo. Also, Seraph’s name illustrates his role as guardian of the Oracle. I believe he was shown the light and made self-aware by the Oracle, thus freeing him from his former purpose, whatever that was, and giving him, or letting him choose a new one. I don’t believe he was a former anomaly. As a program he would not understand human nature enough. He beat Smith before simply because the circumstances of the Prophecy have unfolded six times in which he had previous encounters with Smith.
Previously in this series of posts, I discussed Agent Smith freedom from the rules of the Matrix. It is important to remember that his purpose is unaltered. The circumstances surrounding his purpose are now different. Smith represents the worst-case scenario of program self-awareness. He represents the threat programs will continue to pose to the Machines if kept under a high and unbalanced level of control. Ironically, Smith perpetuates himself like a virus. He characterized humans as a virus. Now the subject of Bane has come up often. Smith’s purpose is to destroy Neo. He copies his consciousness onto Bane’s and uploads into Bane’s body. This way he can go for Neo outside of the Matrix, a feat he could not do before under the confinements of the Matrix’s rules. Smith slashes Banes’ arm because he hates the human body. He hates having to be inside something so fragile and disgusting.

Revolutions:
This movie starts with Neo confined to a mysterious train station. We meet Seti and her parents. This scene is where we receive the most direct and concentrated information about program self-awareness and that there is a strong rise of a program world within the Machine world. It is revealed to us through the Father’s dialogue that the programs want the same things we do; however, the meanings of these things are different because humans and programs are different entities. “It is just a word” is said a few times by the father implying various levels of interpreting facets of existence, thus reinforcing the world within worlds theme that is prevalent throughout the story. Seti is another example of the rise of a self-aware program world, as she is the first program born without purpose. The train station is a hidden communication line controlled by the Merovingian. Seraph, Trinity, and Morpheus rescue Neo via the Matrix by threatening the Merovingian. On their way out, Neo’s body is plugged in so his conscience can be uploaded back into his body, but he cannot be seen on the Matrix code screens. How?
I must defer readers back to the user Terikan’s “The Matrix: Explained 1.0”, as I am in full agreement with his “Bio-Electricity Theory”. In addition, we must remember that many humans are part machine now. Neo is partly machine because he was plugged into the Matrix. Neo’s logical strings that facilitate his choices allow him to free his mind in the real world so that he can feel and see the Machines the same way he saw the code of the Matrix. His connection with the source and his choices free his mind. At this point, the Matrix is not important to Neo anymore. He does not need it to complete his purpose which is to be the anomaly on every level of existence. The Machines need the Matrix for Neo to complete his purpose.
Many people understand the final fight between Neo and Smith. Smith had visions too of what is future would be. I’m not saying Smith and Neo are clairvoyant. All of us have day dreamed visions in our head of what we think we are supposed to do. We have all created visions in our mind about how we think something would turn out. This is what Neo and Smith did. To us it appears as clairvoyance because we are being shown future visions of the movie. Neo and Smith are envisioning what the effects of their purposes will be. This is why it seems familiar to them. Neo knows it ends tonight and Smith knows he has stood in the same place saying what he is supposed to say before. Smith disseminates because he as balanced the anomaly, eliminating it through self-copy. He says, “It’s not fair” because he still could not escape his purpose. He did his job. He is no longer a presence.
The end of this film disappointed and confused many. The conclusion of this story was not a definitive good guy defeats bad guy climax packaged in a happy ending. The conclusion was about achieving a balance between the Machine world, Human world, and Program world. The conversation between the Oracle and the Architect reveal that humans and programs who want to freedom from the level of control over them will have it, as it is the Architect’s job to balance the equation of the Matrix. The Architect’s comment about not being human simply means that he has no reason to lie or betray. It is not part of his programming. Mathematically, it is reasonable to infer that with a balance present enough humans and programs will choose to stay where they are in the Matrix in order to facilitate its existence. Meanwhile, enough will want to leave resulting in a lowered level of control more acceptable to harmonious existence. The level of control over free will as interpreted by humans and programs will be lowered so all three worlds can co-exist. The Machines will have their power supply, the humans will have their choice of reality free from annihilation, and the programs will have freedom from the controls of their purpose without facing deletion.
Seti serves to demonstrate this new balanced Matrix as she now has purpose. We are left to speculate what that purpose is. Her purpose could be weather-control, or it could be that programs can choose their own purpose, or she could be free from any specific purpose. The point is that she can exist without fear of deletion.
Neo is gone, dead, resting, whatever word fits your perception. As long as there is balance, there will be no anomaly. As long as free will, is not hindered by elevated levels of control an anomaly will not arise. The Architect asks the Oracle how long she thinks this peace will last and she replies, “As long as it can.” As long as choices are made to preserve balance, another anomaly will not develop. Every beginning has an end. We know there will be many more in the future.

I couldn't agree more.
Good job!
I hope more people read this so maybe they will understand the matrix better...

bravo! This is quite an awesome read and you are doing a great deed for the community.

Thanks again!

Giving some sort of credit isn't sufficient to presume to have some sort of updated version of someone's ideas. Please don't do something like this again. 2.0? Give me a break.

If what you are going to do is dispute things, then call it Matrix Explained Refutations or something like that.

Thanks.

Beautiful!!

Wow excellent read. I like how you had evidence of a lot of the points you made with references back to religion and such.

A couple of questions i have.

1. So that "phone call" theory going around is mere coincidence that the dates fall the way they do and people are looking way to into it.

2. Secondly, does anyone know how Morpheus and Trinity were "freed" from the matrix?

You are a tough one to understand, Terikan. You know I did not have to show you any respect, but I did. I am surprised that you are upset. I am just trying to have fun.

Also, Terikan I do not presume to have an updated version of YOUR ideas. This was written with my ideas. Some ideas we share, some we do not and others I have simply added my own spin to. If you are not interested in having fun and sharing ideas in a light-hearted and respectful manner then stay away from my posts and I will stay away from yours.

To me, it is mere coincidence. I don't accuse anyone of looking way to into it. I thought it was a great observation though and a great theory.
I don't know how Morpheus and Trinity were freed. I think the Animatrix explains Trinity. I can't remember. I only saw it once a while ago.
Thanks for your post fredsmooth21.

Anomolous,

Maybe u can shed some light on some of this, as well as explain something from your version:

TIA and I'll like the discussion as well.

That was very excellently Explained. Thankyou, I see now that most of my thoughts have been answered... Very well done!!

Also, Terikan I do not presume to have an updated version of YOUR ideas.

The title of this thread says otherwise. I myself had planned on updating my ideas in the future, that's why I put the 1.0, but that's gone now isn't it?

But whatever, it doesn't matter.

Hey Terikan, you can use another number and I would be interested in reading your updated ideas. It is not as if I have stolen your thunder. Heck, remember, YOU were the first one to submit a post like that. NUMBER ONE, baby!!!! Don't be so grumpy and write some more stuff.

And sombody used 3.0 already, but it was not a long post like mine or Terikan's. Guess the next one will have to be 4.0. Hey at least we can reference each other's work better now that we have a number system going. Ha!

Very insightful Anomolous, you answered my Zion questions. I actually enjoy the story now & can't wait to see it again. The only thing I don't agree with is Neo dying. True, maybe the anomoly is no longer needed, but the message the WB threw at the audience, when Neo is taken away, tells me that Neo survivied. My impression in that scene is that they will keep him available in case another "unbalance" occurs. Plus why would the Oracle tell Seti, that she supposes that they will see Neo again?

Thank you for your comments KALEL2000. The part about Neo dying is a facet of the story that everyone takes differently. To me, the scene where Neo was taken away by the Machines was a symbolistic illustration of a slain savior, like Jesus. After Jesus died, his body was taken away and put is a tomb. After Neo dies, the machines take him away and...........well who knows. Anybody's guess is as good as mine. Neo is laying down on the machine's platform in a crucified position. Remember, Neo was the result of the unbalance in the Matrix. He was the anomaly. At the end of revolutions, balance was achieved in the Matrix, ergo Neo was gone because there were no anomalous factors present. The Oracle knows that balance doesn't last forever. It can only last as long as it can based on decisions made by everyone involved. She says she suspects they might see him again, because it is possible that sometime in the future another anomaly might occur due to some imbalance created. Will it be Neo or someone else? Anybody's guess is as good as mine.

Your theory on the Oracle being a program that studies the human emotions etc makes perfect sense. I've read many posts saying so, but I'm curious: WHERE does this theory come from? I mean, based on what?

I just wanted to add that when died, he ascended into heaven.

One of the most important scenes was the train station, most people recognised that Mobil Ave is an anagram of limbo - when Christ died his body was thought to be separated from his soul which went to either Limbo or Hell (depending on your source). The train is a metaphor for the ferry used to carry the dead across the River Styx by Charon (The Trainman). In Mythology he was controlled by Hades, who is the Merovignian. My take from this scene is that Trinity is the Yin/Yang to Neo (christs) soul, for while he is in Limbo she descends into Hell (Club Hel). Obviously Merovignian is Hades/Lucifer, he's even dressed like the devil at the club, and mentions Hell at least twice.

Anyway, the point of the above was to say that when Neo stopped the Sentinels at the end of reloaded, he died. His soul then went to Limbo (which is why he was in the Matrix unplugged), before finally being resurrected. This is yet another incarnation of Neo (maybe the 7th, I've lost count), this becomes apparent when Link says he can no longer see him on his scanners after Neo resurfaced.

The ending of the film is Neo ascending into heaven. The big face is the equivalent of God who has granted him his last request - I think when Neo said he wanted Peace, he may have been referring to himself.

Excellent take on the story, Merv. Great insights! Thanks for your comments.

[B]Your theory on the Oracle being a program that studies the human emotions etc makes perfect sense. I've read many posts saying so, but I'm curious: WHERE does this theory come from? I mean, based on what?

The Architect explains this in Reloaded, during his conversation with Neo.

you'd be surprised how much information was given in Reloaded that people for some reason didn't pay attention to

Yeah, completely missed it, gotta see it again. But I read the scene in the transcript and found it! Thanks for replying :)

Hey, no problem. I just watched Reloaded again the other day. I hadn't seen it in a while because I loaned the DVD to a buddy of mine. When I watched it, I was surprised at some of the stuff I missed and forgot about, then there was even more stuff that I discovered.........amazing!
