There IS a spoon

When Neo was leaving and the kid in Zion brought him a gift that he was sworn to get to Neo, it was the spoon from the child in the Oracle's apartment. What does that mean? It had to be important, but I can't make sense of it.

the answer is probably in Revolutions but it doesn't necessarily need to mean something. Maybe it is what it is. A spoon. And Neo will just eat soup from it.

The two most common speculatiosn on the spoon at the moment seem to be:

1) Just some friendly encouragement or sentimental something or other

2) A clue that he is still in a/the matrix.

I think he is still in a second matrix, that kinda explains his powers to stop the Machines in the end.

if i remember, the spoon he got in M2 looked old and beat up...

And how could that spoon get from the matrix to the "zion" matrix........it cant be unplugged! That buddist kid cant take it with him even if that kid was unplugged! This is a topic will just have to wait and see. interesting though

At first I thought it was to send a message to Neo to remember "there is no spoon" - kind of encouragement I guess, but then I thought more into it, and now I can't help but to think it is another clue that 'yep, this is not a real place, either'. It had to be a clue, otherwise why make a big deal out of it? It wasn't a regular sized spoon either - it was a hammered out big spoon shaped thing, like a crude form you'd make if you lived in a crusty underground city, and wrapped up in a piece of cloth makes the statement that it really is important in some way.

Least, that's my thinking. :)

Hangon, perhaps when the neb. exploded. The spoon was inside and it flew out and ricochete'd off all the walls and stuff in there and eventually came to fly into the sentinals and disable them ;)

Didnt u ppl watch the movie? The kid HAS 2 die anyway. So what does it really matter now? He could shove it in a machine and shoort circut it but thats prolly about it...

Neo destroying the sentinels at the end just by merely lifting his hand shows there is a matrix within a matrix. Also remember who gave him that spoon mwha ha ha, smith himself

Smith didn't give him the spoon...the younger kid who kept bugging to carry Neo's stuff gave it to him, he ran up and interrupted Smith/Goatee Guy just as he was about to use that knife on Neo.

The child gave it to Neo to remind him that nothing is what it seems in the Matrix. The spoon was all battered up because they had a rough way of making things in Zion. I mean I didn't see department stores and the like so that's why it looked the way it did.

I think the spoon was just a sign of saying there is a spoon because they're in the real world.

Now to those who think it's a matrix in the matrix, I disagree. I think Neo can feel and somewhat control the machines because of his ties to Agent Smith that transferred into the real world. I think some part of him was rewritten as well.
To test this he should just try to bend his new spoon in Zion ^_^

Just to give my take on the matter -

I first thought that maybe the 'potential' gave the spoon to kid to give to Neo because Neo's now famous among the Zionists - and the bald potential just wanted to get Neo to get the point of: 'Hey, I knew you before you were famous..'.

But I think it will lead somewhere to Neo waking up in M3, wondering how the sentinels were disabled - then him seeing the spoon and then he tries to bend it like he did the one in M1.

When he succeeds, he knows he's still in the matrix as MOST people here agree there is the embedded matrices.

I also want to believe that there is a matrix in matrix because of the scene that Neo stops the sentinals with his hand(so he has the same powers) and the spoon thing(there is no spoon in this world either)...but go back to the first movie for a second...when Neo is plugged out of the system he says his eyes hurt. And Morpheus replies saying "Because you haven't used them before"...he tells the same things for his mucles...
So isn't this significant evidence that it's the realworld???

and another thing.... the kid gave him the spoon as a reminder that there is no spoon. mayb this is why he could stop the sentinals. he remembered that there is no spoon and he did whatever he could to save the others. he just did whatever he does in the matrix only in the real world.

i totally disagree on the matrix inside of a matrix thing. there must be some other explaination for neo's ability to stop the machines in the real world.

if you really think about it, the whole matrix inside the matrix idea seems very fabricated. i doubt it's actually how revolutions is gonna turn out because it will completely destroy the original plot line. besides, it doesn't sound like something the wachowski brothers would think up.

Well maybe some of you saw the really cheesy movie on Sci-Fi this weeknd. . Virtual Nightmare (?). It was a matrix in a matrix movie. . with a surpising number of similarities to our own movie here. Some of the lines even reminded me of The Matrix. Did anyone see this or maybe know when it was made?

Matrixbball33, there's no need to go calinig other people's ideas 'dum.' While I'm personally not convinced about the 'Matix-within-the-matrix'-theory, I can't disprove it.

It does make some kind of sense: Using the original Matrix (the one we know from M1) to keep everybody in, and the second, underlying Matrix #2 for everyone who 'can't accept the #1 Matrix.' (I'f I'm making myself clear here....)

It also would be a (reasonably) good explanation as to why Neo suddenly has powers in what we believed to be the real world.

Now, I'm not saying I believe this theory, it is still a viable one until we really find out what's going on. Hopefull in M3, but I have a sneaking hunch that that one'll leave us with more questions than answers. But it's certainly fun & entertaining to discuss it all, and see different people's opinions and their interpretations of these kind of things. So why would be 'CRAP'?

It does certainly seem kinda like the Matrix, doesn't it? Was it any good? It had some similarities but, like I said, was quite cheesy. For example, someone in the movie might think he was was playing a bass drum, but it was in reality a cardboard box with a UPC code. These folks were up walking around in a satellite broadcast reality, unlike the Matrix, but the ending revealed a new "product" where they could choose to "plug in" and just lie in a chamber and think they were doing things--just exactly like the matrix, only they had a choice about it. Don't bother watching it. It was very low budget and obviously a made-for-tv copycat (made in 2000) of The Matrix. ;) I'm embarassed to have watched it myself. ha!
