Y does nobody think Smith is an Agent?!!

IsNoSpoon

I keep reading posts about how nobody thinks Smith is no longer and agent. Come on....You are putting too much behind the scenes thinking into this. Try not to assume what is going on with the reasons of your high school english class, but only go with what the movies tell you. In M2, Neo fights Smith at the beginning and refers to him as an upgrade. That is exactly what he is. He is now a stronger and more apt program of an agent. He is like the T1000 of the Matrix. They learned something new when Neo destroyed him the first time and the adapted a new program i.e. the new Smith. All of the agents arent like that because they havent been destroyed yet. Old programs that havent lived thier usefulness.

side note.....how can people die in the matrix? If they all know that it isnt real, how can they be shot and die? It isnt real right?

the upgrades ur referring to are not smith though...they are totally new programs. smith is not an "agent" nemore because he is not a controlled program of the matrix nemore. which is why he says he is freed.

no deep thinkin here...thats too hard for me... :-P

Dude, did you even WATCH Revolutions? Neo never referrs to Smith as an upgrade. He referrs to the AGENT he fights in the beginning as an upgrade. Smith later gives Neo a long, detailed explanation about how he is NO LONGER AN AGENT. Smith explains that he is "unplugged" and "free" -- a "new man." Remember that? And remember that Smith delivers his earpiece to Neo in the beginning of the movie to prove that he is unplugged? On top of that the Oracle actually prepares Neo by explaining that programs that don't function properly are supposed to go to the "source" for deletion, although most choose to "hide out" in the Matrix so they can stay alive. This is what Smith is doing! Smith tells neo that he "knew the rules" and understood "what he was supposed to do" after Neo destroyed him in the first movie. Smith says the was compelled to stay, though, because basically he wanted revenge. So I'm sorry to break this to you man, but SMITH REALLY IS NO LONGER AN AGENT. If anything, he's more like a virus -- just like the "virus" he accused humans of being in the first movie!

And on the second question about how do people die in the Matrix? You really need to go back and rewatch the first Matrix. After Neo's very first training, Morpheus explains this whole concept.

Keep watching man, you'll get it eventually!

When Smith confronts Neo in the schoolyard after the Oracle leaves, it is stated that Smith is "unplugged" from the Matrix, and this is emphasized when Neo is handed the envelope with Smith's ear-peice.

I'd like to mention a scene in ETM.

Niobe: You're an agent?
Smith: Oh no, not any more...

A very direct answer from a character. Something that really doesn't happen much in this trilogy.

he is still an agent but he is free from the matrix which brings me 2 another question, if smith turned bane into himself and he goes 2 the real world, y does he still look like bane? y dosnt he turn back into smith? if im off on this its because i just saw reloaded

no, he is not still an agent. He says in the movie that he's "no longer an agent of the system". Smith overwrote Bane's code (his brainwaves, basically) and downloaded into Bane's body. Now, why does he still look like Bane? Because, i could rip the guts out of an old arcade box and put a supercomputer in it, but it'd still look like an arcade box. Think of it as a possession, if that helps. How does he manage to change back to himself while in the Matrix? Because, like the movie states, it's the Matrix. How come Neo could jump 80 feet in the air and fight Kung Fu while in the Matrix, but not in the real world? Same reasoning.

Also, this is purely assumption on my part, but when a person enters the Matrix, their brainwaves translate into what they are. Their appearance, abilities, etc. are all dictated by their thoughts. Those with a higher level of consciousness (such as Neo) have higher levels of abilities. Which is why, when a person is killed in the Matrix, they die in the real world; the body cannot live without brainwaves telling it what to do. That explains an earlier question i read.

ooooo ok

Ok, I need to watch the second one a little more, so I apoligize for the first part of the question.

The second part wasnt answered though. And it wasnt explained in the first movie how people die. Ok, without the brainwaves, the body can no longer survive, I accept that. If the Matrix is all pretend and laws of physics and nature do not apply, why do bullets hurt them? Not talking about the masses, but the 'freed' like Neo, Morph, etc... If there is no spoon, there are no bullets. The only way for them to exist is if the mind believes they are real. The 'freed' know that the matrix world isnt real, so shouldnt death not have an affect on them unless thier minds break down?
