To me, the pic is not unexpected. Seraph says that he protects what matters most. Many thought he protected the Oracle but he really protects the future. Sati is the future. She is probably the closest thing we have to a perfect hybrid between man and machine (guess).

This pic is probably from a scene after Neo has saved Zion and the Matrix from destruction. It is probably the scene where we will see that famous plaque on the park bench which reads "In Memory of Thomas Anderson", from from the Reloaded DVD.

I've seen the general Making Of and there I saw the scene, it is just a moment between two shots where Seraph and Sati are listening to Joel Silver and make jokes of some kind.
