Note that the planned release date is now being given as Summer 2004. If they're smart, TMO will hit store shelves on the same day that Revolutions is released on DVD. I hope they don't push it back much beyond that.

The farther the release of TMO gets from the euphoria surrounding the DVD release of Revolutions, the lesser the likelihood of TMO's commercial success.

As far as I am aware, Monolith and Eon Entertainment (the Wachowski's) are only planning the MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game).
A single-player version wouldn't be as interesting since everyone else in the environment would be a NPC (non-player character).
In addition, they probably wouldn't want people to have the option of avoiding the monthly subscription fees associated with the game. If they did, too many people would "test" the game's engine in single-player mode first before subscribing. This would slow down enrollment and hinder the potential success of the game.
At most, they might have a short DEMO MODE so people who buy the game off the shelf can briefly sample the game engine before subscribing to the online community.
I was hoping that there would be a single player story mode.. I don't want to have to subscribe to Xbox live just play play TMO...
I think I'm gonna do more research on the game before actually thinking about buying it. I don't need any more bills if it isn't worth it you know what I mean.

There are MANY errors within this thread lemme delve into a few of them:
First of all it is officially MxO not MTO
Secondly the game is PC only.... hence you will never have to subscribe to Xbox live to play the game... just try putting the disk in an X-box.... I dare you
If you are looking for story mode go get Enter the Matrix... since its inception MxO has been an Online only massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG)... there has never been any thought about a single player story
It has a montly subscription because the fact that the story needs to constantly develop...... after the game releases there is a team of people whos sole job is to fix bugs within the game and add content... that is why there is a subscription fee
And i believe that dropping the DVD and the game on the same day would be disasterious.... i dont know about you but for both a PC game and a DVD in one day is alot of cash to spend.... a little while apart would be perfect... it wouldnt turn off those people with out huge incomes.... me
