Matrix Online Beta Test

Unamuno

Like me, I'm sure many of you registred on www.thematrixonline.com to receive their electronic newsletter and more importantly to be on their list for beta testing The Matrix Online (TMO).

I recall reading that the game developer, Monolith Productions, was hoping to beta test later this year and release the game in 2004.

As of today, October 22, I have not received an electronic newsletter nor been invited to participate in the beta test for The Matrix Online...

Has anyone received a newsletter or been invited to beta test Matrix Online?
Jetfire

I only just registered.. Thanks for telling me that. :)
funkyhorror

i certainly havn't recieved anything about it, and i signed up a long while ago.

It would be handy if someone in the forums could tell us how the game plays... Maybe I'll even change my mind and buy it!!!!
Jetfire

It plays like a beauty is what most would say.. But it's not even out yet.. So how could they tell us?
smith_fan

no beta test. I signed up on the german site long ago and no answer but it won't be different, I think:)
Jetfire

No beta test?
shepmath

when will the beta test be out. Will it come out on clonsole, or just PC
Jetfire

PC first.. And if all goes well.. Then maybe the consoles...
HomoUniversalis

No beta? Well, I guess than I'll have to wait for the release to hear all the dissapointment!

Don't buy the game! It's evil!!!

Jetfire, just between you and me, do you think my hatred against TMO is turning into an obsession?

Maybe I should go to one of those groups :D
smith_fan

no, no of course there is a beta test:) I meant that I didn't get a reply for beta testing yet;) Sorry
Jetfire

Ok.. Well, HomoUniversalis, I think it is becoming an obsession... Not in a nasty way, but your are taking it a step to far... And it's funny, lol :D I was the same with ETM, I hated it to bits before..
HomoUniversalis

I guess it's just a lot of frustration finally expressing itself. I am getting fed up with Hollywood using everything they can to earn as much money as they can out of their fans.

Pokemon, for example is a perfect example of this:

You had a card game, you had the nintendo game, you had the tvseries, you had the wallpaper, you had the bedsheets, the pj's, the pants, the sweather, the letterpaper (you had never written a letter), a pen to write with, and finally the Hollywood alltime favorite:

A T-Shirt.

I am very glad they didn't push the Matrix out of proportions, can you imagine buying a replica of Neo's coat over the internet? That would be a laugh, luckily the Matrix didn't go that far.

I may be a "bit" sarcastic, but what kind of world are we turning into? Do we have no sense of induviduality? I don't like going with the flow. I guess that's why I don't like these things. I would HATE having Matrix wallpaper on my walls. I wouldn't mind a lighter, or a couple of lighters, but just the fact that everything has to turn into a hype, is to me entoxicating. It get's worse and worse. I only hope my future children won't be going to the plastic curgen to get brest implants to look like the future britney or trinity.

I love the Movie, but not enough to be leeched.

Forever boring,

HomoUniversalis
Jetfire

Actually you can buy replicas of Neo's coat, The pole in Matrix Reloaded (pointless.. But never the less, true..) and Trinity, Morpheus, Agent Smith, Twins etc.. clothes... So any big selling movie or program goes this far... Matrix has probabily gone further than Pokemon.

We don't need words like this if you have no legs to stand on... when you played the game, then you can come back and start complaining about it... I don't know why you get all frustrated, maybe you should just get a good sleep!?!

Jetfire

It's a mystery in itself... I don't what the problem is with TMO... I think its gonna be great...
Cyqu

I agree 100%
7th One

I signed up almost 6 months ago. I have 3 computer, all with varying strenghts and weaknesses...having tested numerous MP online games, I can say this:

1. Only maybe 1000 poeple will be chosen for the test.
2. The test is called BETA for a reason, because ALPHA comes before, this is where they are now, ALPHA testing the game.
3. The reason noone heard from TMO to test it is because they're waiting for REVOLUTIONS to come out first. Only then, maybe in a couple of weeks, we might start hearing news from TMO
4. Hopefully, it doesn't come out on consoles, so that poeple may reap the wonders and intelligence of owning a machine that has more that 10 buttons.

PEACE

Cyqu

Yes... I think you're right... good thinking!!!
Cyqu

Sooo... I've seen Matrix Revolutions... where is the Beta-testing? (lol)
yamamushi

I found this article you might enjoy concerning the gameplay

www.gamespy.com/e32003/preview/pc/1002154/

can you believe that? For every building, it is completely modeled

"If I was looking up at an 80 story office tower, all 80 floors were modeled and available to be visited"

WOW

hopefully I'll make it into beta, this sounds like a truly awesome game.
Cyqu

You should look at this topic :

http://www.matrixmania.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7103

Believe me... TMO is heaven!

Cyqu

PS: If you can find more articles, screenshots etc, please post it on the above link as well... I am trying to start a The Matrix Online info-gathering!!!
Jetfire

Your bound to see some crappy part of TMO.. You always do with most games.. Theres gonna be a AI controlled block walking down the street and then when you face him, he'll be stuck to the lamp post moving like a head-less chicken trying to get free... lol. No game is perfect.. TMO isn't gonna be perfect.. But its gonna be good.
Cyqu

My enthousiasm is a human emotion and I'm proud of it! When I believe a game is good, then I call it heaven, cuz there aren't very much cool/good games around I believe... but ''how neat, I'm impressed, how did you come to be so blessed'' with correcting people in their speech of happyness over a game (how useless)? Let me be enthousiastic, I think that's better then just complaining about a game which isn't even out yet, we both have no legs to stand on but I still believe enthousiasm is more usefull... I think, but who am I ?

Greetz, Cyqu
HomoUniversalis

Oh, but I do have "some legs" to stand on, as I put them on several other threads. And unless someone starts telling me there will be a singleplayer mode, I promise you the game will extinct in half a year.

Maybe some die-hards will still be playing it, but the requirements, the monthly subscription and the bad graphics don't add to a "heaven".

Sorry to disturb your dream, pal. But if you are looking for heaven, look somewhere else. Cause this ain't coming near it. Why? The storyline (of the game, not the trilogy) is not enough to keep the standard gamers playing. And that's exactly where the progress is: If there's not enough money to pay the developers, furthere development will stop and eventually the fun, and than the game.

MMORPG comes and goes. SinglePlayer will allways last.
yamamushi

What about everquest? It has no single player function, yet, thousands of people play it. I believe this game has the ability to do great, just, the developers will have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to give us something new to keep us attached to it. I dont know about you, or anyone else, but I'd rather play The Matrix online with thousands of other people than the next crappy first person shooter, or single player rpg to come out.
Cyqu

Bad graphics? I don't see any bad graphics... And I think Online-gaming will grow bigger to an extraordinary level of entertainment... Internet is the future, and you are unable to stop it...two worlds ...singleplayer and multiplayer... you (and no doubt many others) choose singleplayer... congratulations... I (and many others) choose Multiplayer
HomoUniversalis

you call it two world, yet they are perfectly combined in many games, and I don't see anything bad with this. And let's be honest. Everquest is something played by diehard rpgers, TMO will mostly be played by general Matrix-fans who won't stay long enough for the game to flourish.
Cyqu

Let's just first start playing it, when it comes out... and then we'll look on how it will end or continue... We don't even know what their doing right now... we don't know if there are any sudden changes made to the hole idea... maybe the monthly fee is taken off the hole game... let alone what more changes till it comes out in 2004

Nobody knows the system requirements yet, and the graphics you've seen in the three screenshots the public has been given won't at all be what's in the game. Just look at Planetside's internal and Alpha test shots and then compare them to the version we play today. Major differences.

How many MMO's can you name off the top of your head? Me personally, I can think of 8 titles currently on the market.... not counting all of the free text-based games the die-hard RPGers really play. There's a big difference between the MMO players and the rest of the gaming community. By reading the posts in the threads on this board I can tell most people here haven't played one before and that's okay. Flaming something when you know little to nothing about it though (nobody really does at this point when it comes to TMO) is a trait I can't stand about a person.

People don't pay a subscription fee on a Massive Multiplayer game to fiddle around in single player. That would be like burning a perfectly good $12.95 at the first of each month.

You have absolutely no idea what an MMORPG is. Go read up about Everquest, ShadowBane, asherons call, Linage, Starwars galaxies. Then head over to blizzards website to read up about World of warcraft then finally head over to Thematrixonline website and maybe you will understand what the game is.

As for the newletter, i signed up months ago and havent received a thing yet... they didnt even send a confirmation.
pax

Well Im dissapointed that unlike brawler in SWG the action wont be directly controlled. Its the big knock on swg to not have player controlled gun fights... its basically just attack and wait the outcome and apply heals during the fight... must be a network reason why they cant have us play that way.

Yet planetside is a true fps isnt it?

I was basically hoping for enter the matrix online... at least the fighting part...
ghost018

Yes, Planetside is a true FPS. About TMO. Though we know that the hand-to-hand combat system is like most RPGs, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of player controlled gunfights just yet.

To whoever said this game will be a failure because of a monthly fee, and bad graphics is completely clueless ...
Crusader

1. Only maybe 1000 poeple will be chosen for the test.

only 23 will be chosen and from those 23 a new player base will be created. well no. not really.
Haxxor

It would be awesome if those 23 people were all chosen from this site.
Anonymous

That would just make my year..
Unamuno

Let me guess: The 23 people include 7 men and 16 women.

Don't think so. 23 people might be enough to repopulate Zion over a hundred years but it's probably not enough to beta test The Matrix Online in 2-3 months.
Haxxor

LOL Unamuno, I didn't think of it like that until now.
I think you are right though, if you want to beta test a MMORPG in a huge city, we need about a thousand people or more. What was I thinking. I wasn't. j/k

Being that this is the only Matrix Online discussion forum (as far as I am aware), here's hoping that the developers at Monolith see the potential benefit of utilizing Matrix Addicts like us to beta test The Matrix Online before unleashing the title on the general public.

See you all in Club Hell,

rontuff92

HomoUniversalis, if youve heard of the online game SOCOM U.S. navy seals, you should know that SOCOM has a multiplayer mode. Its not for the PC its for Ps2 only, but I bet that there will be a singleplayer mode. There just has to be....

Hm.. I hope I get chosen, I sure would feel special.

But until The Matrix Online comes out, Counter-strike for X-box live shall suffice. CS>all.. Yet, maybe TMO will take the title? Only time will tell.
PP

LOL- who DOESN'T hope to get chosen? If you happen to be, btw, I'll give ya a nickel if you let me play for you ^_^

Have they specified exactly WHEN in '04 they'll be releasing it? I hope it's bloody soon.... can't sleep due to the anticipation...

I read somewhere July 1st, but I'm willing to bet that'll change.

I'm thinking late in the year..
Crusader

for those of you who took my 23 chosen thing seriously i was just kidding lol just in case.
HomoUniversalis

I'm starting to think I'm being disliked :D.

First of all IF (not when) I'm going to buy and it does have singleplayer I won't have to pay the monthly subscription (that's just for the gamers playing it online). I would love fighting NPC in an interactive game where I can develop my powers without being beaten up by some Uber-player, who subscribed 2 months earlier than me and can therefor whoop my ass..

If the game has issues (lag, crashes, etc) the game will become very unpopular with the hardcore RPG-ers, even if they have it fixed after two months... (I don't know any examples, but visit the official ubi forum, there are examples listed there).

Because of the PvP (player versus player) you get the image I created before (the high-school bully) in which the Matrix-fans will be very bored very soon.

The graphics may not be bad, but they certainly won't be revolutionary, if you want extreme graphics look to sp not mp.

And please rovman, I have played enough MMORPG in my days, I am just hoping they will include a singleplayer capsule, as they did in the Elder Scrolls (Not a MMORPG, but it could have been if they had wanted it to be.). I'll just blame your rash judgement to a flaw in your personality, since I can't read anywhere that I wrote wtf is a "MMORPG". So please stop judging people like that. And look at Rontuff92, he is bringing some info with him, I don't see you doing that. btw thanx for the info about socom, rontuff, let's hope TMO is a bit like that game.

Don't worry; I still like ya. ^_^
I hope it doesn't become laggy and whatnot; that would really make the playing a whole lot less fun. Of course, I know I can count on you not lagging it up more :D
....'course, I'm stuck with a crappy 52k connection, so I'll probably be the one slowing everyone else down until they have broadband available in my area.
peace out
ghost018

Does anyone think that a game built with the soul purpose of player interaction in mind would have an involved single player mode? I can't say I do.

Most MMP's only offer a single player training mode. Those that I've played (World War 2 Online, Planetside, Galaxies, Earth and Beyond) don't even give access to them until after you've ordered a subscription.

As in most RPG's, there's got to be a region that's safe for newbies with low-level characters. Although PvP will be a large part of the game, fighting won't be the only option one has while playing. See quote from the FAQ section of the official site.

What can I do other than combat?
There are many non-combat abilities that are essential to the missions you'll undertake in the Matrix, such as stealthily sneaking into an enemy region or using your Hacker abilities to bypass automated defenses. You can also have the ability to create objects within the Matrix, which you can give or trade to your teammates. You'll also be able to socialize with your fellow operatives, using email and a sophisticated chat system with emotes.

Now, I could go on and on about the purpose of beta tests in relation to crashes, balancing, and even latency....but that should be obvious enough. Planetside players know how bad the game's code was when it first came out, but something as trivial as that wasn't enough to make most people quit. All MMP's have a rocky start.

Bottom line, just because one person would rather play single player over multiplayer doesn't mean 10 other people don't feel the exact opposite. Saying a game will fail just because it doesn't necessarily fit your gameplay style is a pretty foolish comment to make.

ghost
Terikan

homo, you don't know much about the history of mmorpg's. EQ and UO have outlasted every other game that came out when they did. Hundreds of thousands of people play these games, how many people still play diablo 1? Not many.

Even flops like shadowbane, ac2, etc are still around. Matrix online will be around for a long time because it sounds like it doesn't follow the same mold as all these other mmorpgs that are nothing but EQ clones. First mmorpg I've been excited about for a long while.
HomoUniversalis

Oh, I'm excited, but don't forget that they won't believe they will be able to deliver quality gaming, when the main storytellers (the W brothers) aren't making enough money to be payd anymore. Don't forget that the economy (anywhere in the world) isn't exactly flourishing and I think we will really start noticing that in 2004.

But perhaps I'm just being pessimistic. Believe me, I hope TMO will rock and will go on forever... I just fear it won't...
yamamushi

The matrix online official forums are now up, and I'm sure most of you who signed up for the mailing list already know this. but here is the link in case you missed it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/6/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=400102&f=140103
