My Wild EtM Adventure

After winning a copy of "Enter the Matrix" on this very site and then not actually receiving it, apparently due to the ineptitude of the United States Postal Service, I have waited months and months for either a spare £40 or for someone to buy it for me. I've been given lots of information about the game (both good and bad) but finally, today, I received an American copy from my Dad who has just returned from Houston, Texas. Incredibly egar and salivating at the smell of the box and the pretty little flip lid with pictures inside (We are deprived here in the UK, we get crappy little plastic DVD cases with no manual, no nothing...), I installed it. I have had trouble in the past with new games, and as my computer gets ever-older I had resigned myself to the fact that I would have to upgrade before the release of The Matrix Online if I wanted to actually play the game in real time and get all of the stunning effects. I was not, however, preparing to install the game, be confronted with a settings box with some of the options physically missing and then a message box telling me that "Full-screen could not be found" (or words to that effect). After some research, research which I had also done for about the last 2-3 months and had found nothing, I found 1 article on the Internet which categorically states that the game will not work with Hardware T&Lless cards. I have tried all the 'latest' drivers (if there is such a word anymore for Voodoo5 drivers) in an attempt to fool the game into letting me use my awful Software T&L, but no such luck.

It appears I am well and truly stuffed and that If I wish to play this game and any game of the future, my poor little V5 will have to hybernate in the anti-static bag from which it was so desperately ripped and plugged into a spanking new KT133 mobo with 900mhz AMD processor.

I am contemplating purchasing a Creative GeForce 5200 64MB, for £63. I have a budget for up to £80 (Not much but then I wasn't planning this, the Wachowski brothers have spitefully cast this shadow of doom and wallet emptying curse onto me...And to think I bought the Animatrix the day it came out! ;)

If you can recommend a nice graphics card for around the <£80 mark I would be most grateful.

I thought that was why the games console was invented. To save the hassle over stupid computer error messages. Lets face it... Computers are crap in terms of playing games. Ok for writing essays, editing pictures (some of the time) and browsing the internet. Maybe you should save your money and buy an Xbox or PS2 or something and enjoy the game without having to miss out over errors. It would be the wise thing to do. It saves you having to spend £80 to get another graphics card or something. Believe me, it's worth it. Theres nothing in terms of gaming that a Computer can do that an Xbox, Gamecube or PS2 can do (except get new skins and downloads for free off the net for the game) but really, it's your choice. Try looking on some of the hardware sites on the net. They might come in handy. Don't yell at me if you disagree! I'm just giving some helpful money saving tips. Even though a console is more expensive than a graphics card (sort of).... It's less likely to give you any trouble. And one other thing... It's very rare when you can start up a game like Matrix without having some kind of downfall at some stage! :D

Thanks for your help Jetfire but in the end I bought a new graphics card instead, the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro...This card has really improved the performance of new games on my pc and means that my cpu upgrade can wait a little longer.

Of course, the biggest advantage to my new upgrade is that I can actually play my copy of Enter the Matrix!!!

For the first day I loved the game! The bullet time, the kung fu, the film and extra film footage and the link to the films really impressed me. After the second day some of the levels were a bit depressing but still I played and enjoyed it. Finally, it took 7 hours (I'm guessing this is a lot) to complete the game as Ghost. In the end I was a bit disappointed with the number of martial arts stuff you can actually do and with the number of agents you encounter (too few).

My next venture was to enter my new hack code into the hacking console. <sarcasm>Wow, a training level</sarcasm> Probably the most boring level I've ever seen. I haven't got round to completing this and unlocking the other training areas because it's just so damn boring. The rest of the hacking console is easy to go through but apart from cheat codes I haven't found anything interesting to do there. I've found loads of things on the Internet like the virtual drive but I can't access them! It's all a little confusing. Can anyone help?

The most disappointing thing for me was then playing the game with Niobe (I haven't finished yet). Having played as Ghost and seeing Niobe doing different things, I was a bit shocked to find Niobe doing exactly what I'd just put Ghost through...Is this the same all the way through the game?

To clarify: Can someone explain everything you can do with the hacking console?

Is playing as Niobe practically exactly the same as playing with Ghost??? Are any of the videos even different?

Well I am glad all went well for you in the end. I was dissapointed also with the games feature lackage at some points throughout the game. The videos are a little different and so are the levels. But not by much. You can unlock The sword in hacking mode. Go to www.911cheats.com to find the hacking guide or it might be posted on a thread somewhere. I will post the full list of cheats for the PC version for you...
