Neo's Vision

TheSpectator

Reloaded has a few scenes who are essential key-elements in understanding this movie: Neo and The Oracle, Neo and the Merovingian, Neo and Smith on the playground and off course the architect scene. Most of you believe that the architect scene is the most important scene, I disagree because I believe that Neo's vision is the biggest and most important key-element in the movie.
The vision itself isn't that important, but the paradox that evolves around it gives us answers to many questions, which are mentioned on this forum. e.g. is the MIM-theory true? Which door is the right door? What does the Oracle mean with "you already made the choice"? and so on... first of all let me explain the paradox inside the movie around Neo's vision:

As soon as Neo becomes The One, he's got visions who are shown several times in the movie. He sees in his sleep that Trinity is fighting an Agent, jumps out the window and got killed by Agent Johnson. Neo sees that Trinity is going to die and logically he doesn't want that, therefore when he goes to the Source - the section with the powerplant, failsafe and backdoor alley - he askes Trinity to not enter The Matrix, if she isn't in The Matrix, she can't be killed, that's what he was thinking. The Vigilant-crew failes his task and Trinity is the only one who notices that, she enters The Matrix (against Neo's request) to save her man's ass. She succeeds, but got killed just as Neo saw in his visions.

The paradox is this: Neo knows Trinity will die, his attempt to prevent that leads to her death. If he hadn't saw anything or said anything, Trinity would have joined him to The Source. The Vigilant crew fails, nobody would fix it and they would all be blast to smithereens by the bomb. But Neo's attempt to prevent her death, makes sure that Trinity stays behind to jump in and save his ass.
This theme is very popular in Greek/Roman mythology and modern Hollywood-movies (eg Terminator). Knowledge of the future and attempts to change the present in order to change the future will lead to the fulfillment of that future as it was known, hope you can keep up :) Neo's was aware of the future and attempted to change that, his attempts was the first lead to the fulfillment of that future he saw.

Neo's visions weren't a side-effect of him being The One, but has an important purpose, without these visions Neo would be killed before he even reached the Source. It is meant to be that Neo reaches the Source and that Trinity is going to die - the visions set these things in motion. The Oracle knew that Neo has these visions and also knew what they were about, she comments this:

"The Oracle: Yes. Where you must go. Where the path of The One ends. You've seen it, in your dreams, haven't you? The door made of light? What happens when you go through the door?
Neo: I see Trinity, and something happens, something bad. She starts to fall, and then I wake up.
The Oracle: Do you see her die?
Neo: No.
The Oracle: You have the sight now, Neo. You are looking at the world without time.
Neo: Then why can't I see what happens to her?
The Oracle: We can never see past the choices we don't understand.
Neo: Are you saying I have to choose whether Trinity lives or dies?
The Oracle: No. You've already made the choice, now you have to understand it."

Neo has the Sight, he sees parts of his path still to come, he can't see what will happen to Trinity because he isn't aware yet of the choice he must 'make'. But The Oracle knows (along with all the other programs and machines) what this choice is about and what Neo is going to do. Neo will save his girl when he reaches The Source, that's what Neo is going to do and The Oracle knows this, the machines knows that as well. For the machines there is only one thing that matters: the reloading of the matrix, because they already know what he is going to do and they design the Matrix around it, therefor the left door (the door who is obviously wrong, but who is saying that The Architect was telling the truth) is the correct door.

Another awkward thing is, how does TheOracle know that Neo has the Sight? How can a machine/computerprogram be aware of a property of TheOne in The Real World? Neo's Sight could be a side-effect of him being The One, but what causes it that Neo can see the exact developements still to come? Neo's Sight could also been given by the machines to make sure that everything will go as it was meant to go. This is only possible, in either case, if TheRealWorld is another program, next to The Matrix. Then TheOracle can be aware of his dreams, because Neo is still hardwired to the System; his Sight can be given to him by the machines, because Neo is still hardwired to the System. If you think about this, this is a very strong argument for the MIM-theory.

In summary: Neo is having visions of Trinity getting killed, he's trying to prevent that and his attempts are the direct cause of her death. Neo is given these visions by the machines, because he is still hardwired to TheSystem and TheRealWorld is just another program, this explains why The Oracle can be aware of his visions. His visions has a purpose, to make sure he reaches the Oracle safely and that Trinity is going to die. Trinity's death is meant to be and the machines know that and already know what Neo is going to do: he saves her. Therefore the left door (the wrong door) is the correct door to make sure the Reloading can continue.
Metaphor

Ok so I have my own little theory on Neo's vision... This has everything to do with the questions you pose at the end of your post...But I think you are on the right tack

In M1 Deja Vous is associated with a glitch in the matrix and I am operating from the realm that the Matrix is a metaphor for life thus I relate it to some personal experiences of mine where I dream realistic events (things that have me wondering if they were a dream or not) then within some realtively short period of time they come true. Then there are time that I have dreams and remembered it when I woke up but by the time I brushed my teeth and ate breakfast the memories were fleeting then one day I have a deja vous moment and vaguely remember something like that being in that forgotten dream.

SO I say all of that to say that maybe Neo's vision are a glitch in the matrix... But then you say well he's unplugged how can that be... Then I say well if deja vous is to a glitch in the matrix meaning that something has changed then his dreams which I believe are precursors to deja vous are glitches in the matrix as well. So what has changed???? So something did change after he started having all those visions he could feel the sentinals like he could feel the things in the matrix.

Plus, you even noted that the Oracle knew of his vision and she is a program and questioned whether or not he was somehow still hard wired eventhough he "awoke" from the matrix. I think you are on the right track with those questions. I think that his awaking from the matrix is like a thread of a larger application exiting out of its current state of running so even though the thread (Neo) no longer exists in the Application (the matrix as so defined by the experiences of people being plugged in) the code still exists for the thread somewhere in the hard disk memory of the computer. So its almost like they do memory mappings of humans from virtual memory to their real location out on disk. So when the thread stops running it gets swapped out of virtual memory and any changes to the code that ran the thread are put back on disk. So maybe when individuals unplug from the matrix there thread is terminated and switched out of virtual memory onto the disk. I'm not sure of your level of computer knowledge but all virtual memory has to get mapped to some real memory on the disk. So maybe Zion is somewhere in disk memory and the address was unknown to the agents in the matrix application that’s why they were so stuck on getting the address out of morpheus.

So I further believe that Zion is operating on the Matrix OS but directly from disk memory but they have access to resources of the OS and that’s how they get to the matrix application. That explains why they needed the codes for Zion they really needed the memory address of Zion.

The sentinels drilling is likened to the deletion of memory blocks. I guess they got a good enough guess as to where they might me and they are searching through all the memory addresses until they get there.

So I'm going to relate all of this to the fact that the oracle is a program that tells people what they want to hear or need to hear to get them to do the job that they are meant to carry out. Since Neo is still part of some application running on the MAtrix OS other applications and the OS are aware of his operations and executions. Therefore the dreams were maybe original and other applications became aware of them through the Matrix OS. That's why they began to come true almost like deja vous. So in the instant that other apps and machines found out about Neos dreams the matrix was changed in a way to make them come true... deja vous means something has changed in the matrix. Right?

Ok A little bit of background about my beliefs on the matrix, I related the matrix and the human aspect of it to our current existence and dependence on machines and the matrix itself to that of a computer system. The matrix is an OS and all the people in the matrix that are still plugged in are running threads of a matrix application and their are various applications running on it like the agent app and the oracle and the Merovingian. Some of the applications have other threads that do work for them that they control, i.e the Merovingian has the men that are older more resilent apps from the previous versions of that app that he has somehow comendeared. Like applications on the computer the OS allows them to use and hold resources as is necessary and it is possible for applications to put locks on resources so that others may not enter them, which may be the case with Zion. I believe that Zion is either a system resource or a system level application running behind the scenes directly from memory i.e is not running on virtual memory therefore unplugged and that is why they need a hardwired line to get back and forth. That is why I believe that Neo can feel the sentinals the way that he can feel things in the matrix... He's learning how to read machine language that the OS runs on.

OK so enough of my ramblings and metaphors let me know what you think?
