Reloaded has a few scenes who are essential key-elements in understanding this movie: Neo and The Oracle, Neo and the Merovingian, Neo and Smith on the playground and off course the architect scene. Most of you believe that the architect scene is the most important scene, I disagree because I believe that Neo's vision is the biggest and most important key-element in the movie.
The vision itself isn't that important, but the paradox that evolves around it gives us answers to many questions, which are mentioned on this forum. e.g. is the MIM-theory true? Which door is the right door? What does the Oracle mean with "you already made the choice"? and so on... first of all let me explain the paradox inside the movie around Neo's vision:
As soon as Neo becomes The One, he's got visions who are shown several times in the movie. He sees in his sleep that Trinity is fighting an Agent, jumps out the window and got killed by Agent Johnson. Neo sees that Trinity is going to die and logically he doesn't want that, therefore when he goes to the Source - the section with the powerplant, failsafe and backdoor alley - he askes Trinity to not enter The Matrix, if she isn't in The Matrix, she can't be killed, that's what he was thinking. The Vigilant-crew failes his task and Trinity is the only one who notices that, she enters The Matrix (against Neo's request) to save her man's ass. She succeeds, but got killed just as Neo saw in his visions.
The paradox is this: Neo knows Trinity will die, his attempt to prevent that leads to her death. If he hadn't saw anything or said anything, Trinity would have joined him to The Source. The Vigilant crew fails, nobody would fix it and they would all be blast to smithereens by the bomb. But Neo's attempt to prevent her death, makes sure that Trinity stays behind to jump in and save his ass.
This theme is very popular in Greek/Roman mythology and modern Hollywood-movies (eg Terminator). Knowledge of the future and attempts to change the present in order to change the future will lead to the fulfillment of that future as it was known, hope you can keep up :) Neo's was aware of the future and attempted to change that, his attempts was the first lead to the fulfillment of that future he saw.
Neo's visions weren't a side-effect of him being The One, but has an important purpose, without these visions Neo would be killed before he even reached the Source. It is meant to be that Neo reaches the Source and that Trinity is going to die - the visions set these things in motion. The Oracle knew that Neo has these visions and also knew what they were about, she comments this:
"The Oracle: Yes. Where you must go. Where the path of The One ends. You've seen it, in your dreams, haven't you? The door made of light? What happens when you go through the door?
Neo: I see Trinity, and something happens, something bad. She starts to fall, and then I wake up.
The Oracle: Do you see her die?
Neo: No.
The Oracle: You have the sight now, Neo. You are looking at the world without time.
Neo: Then why can't I see what happens to her?
The Oracle: We can never see past the choices we don't understand.
Neo: Are you saying I have to choose whether Trinity lives or dies?
The Oracle: No. You've already made the choice, now you have to understand it."
Neo has the Sight, he sees parts of his path still to come, he can't see what will happen to Trinity because he isn't aware yet of the choice he must 'make'. But The Oracle knows (along with all the other programs and machines) what this choice is about and what Neo is going to do. Neo will save his girl when he reaches The Source, that's what Neo is going to do and The Oracle knows this, the machines knows that as well. For the machines there is only one thing that matters: the reloading of the matrix, because they already know what he is going to do and they design the Matrix around it, therefor the left door (the door who is obviously wrong, but who is saying that The Architect was telling the truth) is the correct door.
Another awkward thing is, how does TheOracle know that Neo has the Sight? How can a machine/computerprogram be aware of a property of TheOne in The Real World? Neo's Sight could be a side-effect of him being The One, but what causes it that Neo can see the exact developements still to come? Neo's Sight could also been given by the machines to make sure that everything will go as it was meant to go. This is only possible, in either case, if TheRealWorld is another program, next to The Matrix. Then TheOracle can be aware of his dreams, because Neo is still hardwired to the System; his Sight can be given to him by the machines, because Neo is still hardwired to the System. If you think about this, this is a very strong argument for the MIM-theory.
In summary: Neo is having visions of Trinity getting killed, he's trying to prevent that and his attempts are the direct cause of her death. Neo is given these visions by the machines, because he is still hardwired to TheSystem and TheRealWorld is just another program, this explains why The Oracle can be aware of his visions. His visions has a purpose, to make sure he reaches the Oracle safely and that Trinity is going to die. Trinity's death is meant to be and the machines know that and already know what Neo is going to do: he saves her. Therefore the left door (the wrong door) is the correct door to make sure the Reloading can continue.
