Furbies and robotic dogs

i have been wondering if furbies are AI because furbies don't do very much but they say lots of odd words.
i have also been wondering if those robotic dogs in japan are smart.

Pple please don't confuse a java application as AI. Sorry, however it keeps coming up over and over again. The closest thing I can think of as being remotely intellegent on the net would be the ALICE programne, and see how after the word ALICE comes programne? She is the sum total of what we inject into her/he/it.

No, it's not a virus. A virus is not AI either (just wanted to jump in there), ALICE is a crude version of AI. I want to use the term crude here to underline that it too is the sum total of what the programer has put into it. ALICE will roughly answer your questions once you have typed in what you want to say to it.

It isn't too bad as programes go, but when I converse with it I feel as though I am being chat up by a drunk in a bar. In other words....limited and self repeating and never rembers your name.

i had a look at this alice thing and i thort it was very cool, i asked it the meaning of life and it gave me a good answer lol

Ima, next time you talk with it, tell it your are lonely. It starts to freak out. I love making it crash when I'm bored enough to talk to it. It just freezes up! So much for trying to rule the world any time soon ;p

I have access to several different fully-automatic machine guns. Im sure that getting your furby onto the range wouldnt be too hard. After one or two belts thru the SAW I doubt there would be a piece big enuff to recognize.

Die furbies! Die! The dogs are sort of AI becuase they are robotic. Just like in either AI or The Bicentenial Man. Furbies..... A definate No! They will die for introducing themelves to the world! lol. Thats a bit harsh. But they are incredibly annoying at times!

Being robotic makes it no more AI than the furbies. And no, its not too harsh. Furbies should die. So should the people that invented it. And their families. And friends.

Define AI. isnt AI a computer program that processes something like a command or words then comes up with a response or answer? If so i would consider furbys and robotic dogs AI. very primative though. You could also say they are not AI because they have only are programed to do a couple of things. But they respond. they process what you tell them to do and come up with a response. you may define AI as free thinking. a computer certainly chooses wat answer to give so whats to say furbys and robotic dogs dont do the same?
