Enter the Matrix semi-review

Well I've been playing with it for about an hour and a LOT of things stand out right off the bat. Keep in mind this is VERY preliminary, I haven't gotten very deep/far into it. And this list is NOT all-inclusive, just a general idea.

Machine:
AthlonXP 2000+
AIW Radeon 9700 Pro (Catalyst 3.1)
Crappy on-board sound
Windows XP Pro
Does the rest really matter?

Pros:
- Video footage is good quality
- In-game characters look pretty good
- Cool Lighting/Shadow effects
- FAST level loading (huge plus in my book)
- Kinda cool looking cinematic camera effects

Cons:
- Environments are somewhat bland
- Already seen graphical glitches (missing/pink walls, might be my drivers, haven't checked on new ones in a while)
- Levels/missions are broken into very small parts requiring FREQUENT loads (but as I said, loading is quick)
- Car in cutscene has SQUARE wheels! I don't just mean you can see the edges of the polygons, I mean SQUARE. As in 4 sides!
- Cinematic cameras change far too much, very disorienting.
- Character movements look VERY cheesy
- Crappy control in hand-to-hand combat mode. It auto-switches veiw types on you and spins you around (more disorientation).
- AI? buahahahaha!! Yeah right!
- Computer assumes to much. ex. walk up to a wall, and it goes into wall-press mode (puts your back against the wall which completely changes how the controls work) whether you wanted to or not.
- Why the @*$% can't I crouch?!?
- Just overall awkward controls, MAYBE I'll get used to them, but I don't want to have to

Getting tired of typing. To sum it up, the Cons are badly outweighing the Pros so far and even some of the Pro are only partial successes. MAYBE I'll get used to the controls and the story will be good enough to make me keep playing, but from what I've seen so far, it sucks pretty badly.

I agree on every point you made. I made a similar post yesterday.

The slow motion effects are pretty wild, very good attention
to detail! I love using the machine gun in slow motion, it's
amazing.

Quite a few noticeablebugs, but overall it's pretty decent.

One thing I really dislike is that you have to follow the arrows.

I loved Half Life (hate counter strike) because there was a
million ways to play the game. there were so many ways
to win, and pass levels. This game is limited to pretty much
following the plot.

The good thing is that even in Easy mode, it does require
some thinking and it's not that easy.

Also, all the levels look very similar, maybe its because I only
passed the first 3, we'll see.

Overall, I rate it a B so far. Maybe it'll increase after I pass it.

it should run with glitches on a Radeon 9700. does yours work fine? the requirement is Radeon9800/GeForce2
Dadumafugu

??? Where did you get those requirements from? I'm reading right off the box where it says:

Video: NVidia GeForce 256/ATI Radeon 8500

My vid card stomps the piss out of both of those. The game runs great on my machine (I'm running @ 1280x1024, BTW). Very smooth. Just a couple places where some walls don't show up and/or are pink.
Luc

is it just me, or does is there no "REVERSE" in the car?

I slammed into a wall a few times and after trying every
trick, I had to restart the level.

You can go back a little, but its slow and in some corners
it doesn't work at all.

grr.

Why does every game company assume that since we can buy the game, that we have the latest and best videocards, i bet that game will play fine on my 8x Ti4200 128 mb, well, from waht iv heard, i might not be getting the game, unless i see a lot of good reveiws

Hey what game are you guys talking about????? I'm a newbie here and from what I gather those with radeon 9000+ should not have any problems running the game whats the dilly yo
Luc

as the name of this thread might suggest, we're
talking about the new game, "Enter the Matrix" ;)

Well i was thinking about going to buy the game this weekend because i love everything about the matrix. Do you think it is worth the money to go buy it. I thought the people who made the movey would be able to make a really cool game.
Luc

i'd say it's worth the $40 i paid for it.

I'd say that the first sequence as Ghost (Post Office, driving to the Hard Line, running away and getting tot he Hard Line) is the best of the whole game. Other than that, it's just alright. You do need it, though, to fully understand Reloaded. The new Oracle (the old one died in real life, the excuse is that the Merovingian gave her a new face for helping Neo) gives a few hints about the times to come. Plus, the Revolutions trailer kicks ass.

I've got a P4 1.6G, 512 PC-2100 RAM, and a GF4TI4600 with 43.45 drivers. In the game, tons of textures are flashing, esp. on the SWAT members, the front of Niobe or Ghost, the Agents' neck area and earphone, and just about the entire car on Driving levels. I'm downloading the new patch right now, I'll tell you guys if the patch is worth it.
