Why does Neo and the rest of man kind get 24 hours to save Zion after Neo reaches the source? I can't think of any real explanation.

because the 2ns and 3rd parts of the Matrix are supposed to exist within a 72 hour timeframe

No one said that. I think it might have something to do with the threat the architect made to Neo.

They talked about destruction of Zion in 72 hours, but the machines are reaching Zion in 24, it is a hard battle i think.

That exile person that niobe sees in ETM says that Zion lasted for 72 hours. But the machines are going to reach zion and attack in 24 hours. Difference.

From what i gathered from ETM and the movies is that. In 24 hours the matrix is gonna break down(or is it? Tee hee) and then zion will battle for 72 hours. Er something like that.
