Matrix Mistakes

nemo

there are alot of them , but decided to post only the first important ones. some of these will trip you out.

The Matrix (1999) - 176 mistakes

The scene where Morpheus is giving Neo the pill choices they have a view where Neo and the pills are reflected on different lenses of his sunglasses. Neo reaches for the red pill, then Morpheus says something and the lens-split view comes into play again. You see Neo's hand on the red pill side reaching up, while on the blue side you can still see the same arm but it's not moving.

In the scene where Agent Smith is interrogating Neo, after Smith has sealed Neo's mouth shut and he is backed into the corner, when the camera cuts back to Smith you can clearly see a reflection in his glasses of Neo calmly sitting down in the chair.

When Neo is going to open the door to enter the Oracle's house, you can clearly see a camera on the doorknob.

Neo and Trinity kill all those soldiers on the roof before the agent comes to fight them. The agent shoots at Neo and during the whole dodging bullets scene every single corpse is gone. More to the point, Trinity's disappeared too!

When Neo is out on the scaffolding and looses his phone, in one shot you see the phone falling towards an empty street, then you cut to Neo, and then back to the falling phone. This time the street is filled with people and a big parade.

In the scene with Laurence Fishburne fighting the agent in the bathroom of the building they were trapped in, the agent punches through a brick wall, yet next time we see the wall, there is no damage.

During the fight scene between Neo and the agent in the subway station, after Neo incapacitates the agent and flips out of the way of the oncoming train, you can see where the wire harness connected to his back.

In the interrogation room, agent Smith takes off his sunglasses. In the next scene you can see them on the table; during the scene they change position and disappear a couple of times.

Not really a mistake, just something to notice. When Neo is at work in his supervisor's office getting yelled at, notice the window washers. When the camera shoots from the outside of the building, look at the soap on the window.. it strangely resembles the Matrix pattern as displayed on a computer screen. Also take notice of the look of confusion on Neo's face- like he had seen that pattern somewhere before.

In the scene where Neo is at the office. While in his cubicle, he gets an express delivery. As he signs for it you can see another arm laying on the desk behind him. In the next scene he hands back the clipboard, you see it is only him and the delivery man. [This one's visible on the non-widescreen video, but not on DVD (UK, anyway)]

When Neo is fighting the agent in the subway, he wipes his blood on the back of his hand, but when he puts his fists up the blood is gone.

In the beginning of the move when Neo gets the FedEx envelope, he is shown at his desk opening the envelope and then pouring it out...As he is pouring the phone out, with the green packing label on the top, the shot cuts "seamlessly" to a close up of the phone being poured out the rest of the way._ However, the envelope is now flipped over._ The logo FedEx logo is now on top (the packing label is facing down).

In the scene where Neo comes back from the conversation with the oracle, a part of the cookie, which he has got from the oracle, is bitten off. A few seconds later he wants to eat the cookie and there is no sign of a bite anymore.

When Keanu first meets Fishburne, Fishburne extends his right hand with his other hand behind his back, next shot shows him with his left hand at his side, and when he withdraws his hand, it is back behind his back...talk about fast hands!

When on the roof, Neo fires at the enemy agent, who dodges all his bullets, but the windows of the building behind him are undamaged.

In the scene 'Rooftop Rescue', when Morpheus is hanging from Neo's arm (who is hanging from the helicopter), a safety wire is visible running out of Morpheus' sleeve and into Neo's hand.

In the scene where Morpheus is being interrogated by the agent alone, the camera switches from behind Morpheus, to just forward of him and back a few times._ If you look at the agent's hand on Morpheus' head, you can see that his fingers switch from behind his ear to both sides of his ears as the camera changes.

After the Lobby scene in the Government building, Neo and Trinity enter the elevator and the pillars are shown falling to pieces. Where are the dead/unconscious guards?

When it is Neo's turn to make the Jump he takes a run up, and the camera changes to a sideshot of him running across the top of the building with the sky behind him. There is a big fuzzy blobby outline around him which should have been edited out. I only saw this in slomo first time round, but now I notice it every time.

When in the agent training program, there is a view from above, you can see a slight green reflection below and on Morpheus's trench coat. Neo's coat was designed not to reflect and this is actually the only time Morpheus was in front of a green screen with the coat on.

Interesting stuff nemo! Thanks for sharing.

thats amazing, did u catch it all yourself?

if so thats awesome

if i were the director i'd be very angry with the continuity guys:mad:

hehe, but come on, there is always going to be mistakes... but i guess that is a fun thing to look out for when watching a movie... kinda shows that the movie isn't real... hehe

You know,I never noticed the wires, I will have to check those out next time I watch, like tonite. :)

My favorite blooper is the oracle just baked the cookies, gave Neo one - but when he steps into the other room with Morpheus the cookie is hard and crunchy - not like the soft warm cookie noise you would expect. ;)

But like it was said above,t here's no way to make everything perfect in a movie. Something like this where people are watching 10-20-50-100 times, all the small things are going to be nitpicked out.

That's cool. As a director or studio, I would be impressed that my audience picked up some of the piddly minute details, eh?

i don't know if it matters that the Matrix had 176 mistakes in
it.

first off, most of us Matrix fans didn't even notice these
mistakes even after watching the movie a few hundred
times. in fact, i'd say 99% of the people who watched it
never noticed those mistakes.

second, every movie has mistakes. true, that the Matrix has
quite a bit of them, but you also have to remember that it's
the most complex movie ever created. it set new standards for
visual effects and it took years to complete.

finally, those who seek mistakes in these types of movies must
really have nothing better to do. while the average user
watches the movie with passion and interest, these other
idiots watch it 10x slower to find mistakes. what a joke.

NEMO. This comment isn't directed at you, I know you got that
list from moviemistakes.com, a site created by a bunch of idiots
with a lot of time on their hands, so don't take it personally. i just
don't like people who only seek the bad in things, no matter
how good the thing really is.

by the way, if you go to that site prepare for popup hell (and
a bunch of forced downloads).

i had no intentions on it , i just thought it was cool , of course alot of movies have a mistake , i didnt even see any of these eithers , and if i still look today i still cant see them . I just thought it was something cool , specially the part where the water is dripping down the glass. Even knowing these now , it doesnt change my perspective on the movie in any way.
Luc

and i have no problem with you posting it. i just wanted
to express how i feel about movie mistakes in general.

don't take it personally :)
nilnum

the only one i caught so far was when he is choosing pills. i kinda fell asleep, but the one when the cell phone falls, i did not see a parade or anything like that, it looked almost the same to me except for maybe a few more people... maybe thats what u meant

I think that when he wipes the blood off its supposed to disappear from his hand showing that he has learned that its not real and there is no blood.

nice point

I would disagree with you, because if he really learned it's not real and there is no blood, then he wouldn't have to wipe. :)

Well mabye cause Trinity wiped it off his face in RL then it disappeared in the matrix??
WildCard

No, otherwise Morpheus could have lasted indefinately while in captivity because they were wiping his head with cool compresses and talking soothingly.

-WC-
Thecrow

Yea thats true. Mabye the blood was gone cause hes part vampire and he licked it all off while the camera flashed away?? im out of ideas here give me some help =D
WildCard

As good as the Wac brothers are, I am betting that they aren't good enough to let a few mistakes go through. Not every odd thing in the movie has a hidden meaning. :)

Rendrix

damn.
WildCard

Yes, yes, I know - I wish it could all be tied up into one perfectly written plot twist too, but sometimes a reflection of a camera on a doorknob is just that! :D

I want to say that I personally have watched the movie 78 times not including the 5 times I saw it in the Theater and I only spoted: THe harnes, cookie(hardness) ,and the whole blood on the hand bit. I would love to hear some more of the mistakes that any of you ahve found!! :p
Luc

i must have watched the movie at least 200 times but since I was
always "possessed" by it, I never noticed any of the mistakes,
just the cool effects and plot.
trinityflame_fv

I would agree. I want to go and see the new one but now i want to make sure i know every bit of information that they offer in the first on and see if they keep the information right in the second one because if they contradict themselves it would be funny and not well written.

You are joking, right? These guys are incredible, they have all the money/budget they want, Keanu even gave up much of his royalties to the special effects team just to motivate them to do even better work...

Most of us love this movie enough to not really care about the mini errors. To come here and brag about only wanting to go see it to find errors, well, that's blasphemy. :)

-WC-
trinityflame_fv

That is not the only reason why I would go and see the movie! Are you kidding me!!! I am just saying one of the things I would do during one of the many times i am going to see it is to .. try and pick out things i did not see or notice before.... which would include the errors. If anyone were to just go to see how the human trait of error appears in a $$$$ production then they need to get some help because they have no life. Not to mention... They make errors also.

To come here and brag about only wanting to go see it to find errors, well, that's blasphemy.

I did not mean to seem... as I did. I only was stating it would be something to do, other than drewl over Neo. Sorry if I was affending anyone.
Zionchild

When I worked in the Video Biz I was told by many of the salesmen that a lot of the big movie companies pay big bux for people to catch errors like these.... so if you caught them you may have found a new job! :D
Luc

perhaps, but you better catch them before the movie comes out
or you'll be out of that job quick!
Zionchild

No actually the way I understood them was they pay for people to catch that stuff after the movie release! Why, I have no clue, doesnt make much sense after its done huh? :)
trinityflame_fv

Maybe it is just so that in the next movie, if one follows, will not have such mistakes.

Genuine mistakes, but most can be blown off or utilized as proof that one is in the matrix and consistancy is not paramount there. Similar to the deja-vu style matrix glitches:)
trinityflame_fv

kewl.. that makes some understanding

View Full Version : Matrix Mistakes

saddest part - What do you think made Neo figure it out?
