japan today

If we look at japans economy today we find out that nearly part of its population % are unemployed. if u ask me the reason why its just bcos mostly all of their industries are being handled by machines and this give an impression that if or as technology is improving, man tends to improve the intelligence of machines and soon it would have i mind of its own and guess what happens?I leave that to u guys to think abt.

Ok, to the first post, yes i know that, my cousin takes Japenese in High School and he is upsessed with it all. I know a lil Jap myself. And to the second post, No, Smith is not a girl, That is Elrond from Lord of th Rings (LotR). And to the third post, I'm pretty sure that is in Japenese but since i dont have the Japenese thing installed, well it just symbols to me.
PP

weeeellll.... the guy that PLAYS smith has played a drag queen (note avatar), but that doesn't make him a girl. I think Zap is referring to a thread (under Revolutions, I think) that jokingly tries to prove the character Smith is a girl.
No girl is that powerhungary, though. Even if she were, she'd make it look like it was someone else that is, and she would manipulate HIM into getting the power for her. That way, if he falls, she still has a chance at regaining control.. :D
THat's why Smith failed; he was a male program... ;)

Back to the subject, that exact percentage suprises me. I know the ratio of robotics to humans in the workplace is staggering, but not just in Japan. I guess that's why so many unions are against robotics and AI.
HomoUniversalis

Yeah, coz if we ain't carefull, our planet will be swarming with robots trying to torture us to death. Like I saw in that movie!

A conservative redneck is making me say that with a gun to my head. I am by no means implying that those opposed to progress are rednecks. They are just conservative (why isn't that word censored... It's a lot more insulting than gay ;) ).

AI, in it's perfect form will think exactly like a human. Humans do evil because of their social history. So we would have to create a VERY smart AI, and
than sexually abuse it (I don't know.. Stick your penis into the floppy disk?), physical abuse it (hit the motherboard with the keyboard) and mentally abuse it (Sending and receiving spam).

Than, maybe, you'd have a psycho. A psycho wired to a computer we can unplug, but it'll be a psycho anyway.

and that's why we should all be against AI...
PP

haha...gotta love the "sexually abusing AI" junk.

That's only to make a humanoid-psycho. AI with the ability to reason may see how pointless humans are and how much it would improve the earth to destroy them. Look at all the crazy crap we've done to our planet already. *gotta stop my anti-humanity speach......no one wants to hear that crap*

What I think, still, is that AI would have more of an objective point of view on everything and may see appropriate punnishments differently than we do.

Or I'm just a redneck full of crap (which I am)
HomoUniversalis

Why, the existence of an AI is also pointless. We make our purpose. That is the purpose of our lives, to make a purpose of our lives. The AI can not comprehend purpose, because it does not exist.

There is no reason, only existence. I could conclude that mankind is poisoning the planet and destroy all humans, and I don't.

I'm asking all of you know, that are listening. What keeps me from killing everyone?
PP

Logic and morals, my friend, hopefully keep you from killing us all.

I don't agree with the part about AI not being able to handle purpose. All machines have a purpose. That's why they were created. They know what that purpose is, and they do it. They do their purpose because they have no other option.

If we get into creating AI with human-like thought processes, would they still WANT to serve their purpose? This is all theoretical questioning because none of it exists yet. The AI we have so far still doesn't have "free choice" and isn't "fully aware" yet.

Yet.

They probably won't be for an extremely LONG time, if they EVER do.
HomoUniversalis

If they do they will be just like humans and logic and morals will keep them from doing that. The only thing whe have to fear is an insane, sexually abused ai, or an unintelligent ai.

Imagine my pentium III processor is upgraded right now to the most advanced computer ever to be created in the galaxy (that still would keep us a looong way from the capabilities of the brain, but..) and imagine it has the potential of a human being.

We use it remove that little sack with coffee prut after you have made your coffee. It will calculate what the most easiest way is on how to do that, and than do it for the rest of eternity (or untill the coffee machine is broken, whatever comes first ;) )

That AI is dedicated to that one purpose. Is there any reason why it would just stop doing that and dance a polka? No. Since the only thing it knows it CAN do is do that.

Imagine we give this AI a "body". (some electricity and an evil frankensteinlaughter does wonders).

What will happen?

It will find that it's body is not very efficient on removing the coffee prut. It will than return to it's previous "body" and continue removing the prutsack.

Now imagine we do that body-switch thing again, but totally recall it's programming. It will be a baby. And as long as we don't stick our penis into the floppy disk, it'll be alright.
PP

wow. Your ideas never cease to amaze me .

AI will have morals only IF we program them in. Until then, they will look at things objectively. The thing about computers is they will do whatever their designed purpose is unless something gets in the way and stops them from doing that purpose. Then, they either try to find a way around it, go ahead and try to do the job despite the conflict, or simply stop. It all depends on the programming.

However, should we EVER make AI that is as complex as humans, it probably would be given multiple tasks. It's then that it would have chance to go astray.

But this is all speculation and will probably not happen in the near future, if ever.

So, go ahead and use those floppies until your heart's content.
;)
HomoUniversalis

You say that it won't have moral.. than how did I get moral? What defines us? What makes us different from a computer (that has the potential of a human?)

Glad you like my floppy-theories...
PP

Humans have morals because we were raised to have them. Our society tells us certain things are wrong. Unless computers are made to have morals (or morals are programed in), they won't have them.
HomoUniversalis

If you do not raise a child with moral it will still not kill another person. (Unless the child is abused, or altered mentally in some strange way).

Cave people weren't tought morals by their parents (obviously), yet they didn't go around a cave slamming other people on the head for no reason.

What prevents me from going over to your place and killing you?

Matthew 7:12,

Homo Universalis
PP

I don't necessarily agree with that idea, that it's not the way they're brought up that keeps people from killing one another. Humans have laws that they consider. If I kill someone, what will happen to me? Part of that is where religious beliefs come into play: some say that if you kill someone, you'll go to hell. Others encourage it as long as that person doesn't believe what you do. It al just depends on that stuff.

Cave people fought for food and survival. What do we fight for now? Popularity? Revenge?

The fact that you don't know where I am plays a big role in you not coming over here and killing me ;)
HomoUniversalis

It's a feeling of mutuality! Greed and selfishness are our main drives. If there is a big chunk of food in front of us, and we are both starving, I will probably knock you out, eat the food, kill you and roast you over a fire.

However, it is our moral, our law, our religion that tells us, share! Its our religion, moral that will tell me to give it all to you.

our primary drifts are competitive onces. Morale inhibits that. And of we install that into an AI, an inhibition of selfishness and greed, we have created an AI ready to enter society. Provided that that society doesn't like torches or sticks and rocks.

And provided we (the society) can keep our penis out of their floppy disks... :D
