Neo - Harry Potter?

I just finished reading the fifth Harry Potter book and it occured to me that Neo and Harry have a lot in common. I'll come back and specify later.

What do you think?

I think harry potter sucks, and neo would kick his fairy ass if he had a chance.

Harry Potter being compared to Neo? I think not... i havn't read the books... but... he's a little kid who goes to a school and learns about magic... while Neo is the savior of mand-kind... i'd like to hear these specifics you speak of... :)

Is Harry Potter the One?

He starts he life in a world that is full of muggles. Muggles are an excellent analogy for those who are still plugged in.

Then, he realizes that there is a whole new world of which he knows nothing - the Magical World.

Voldemort is the Smith of the Potter books. The Death Eaters are like agents.

Dumbledore is the Oracle.

The Order of the Phoenix are the Zion inhabitants.

The analogies aren't perfect, but they are close.

It is interesting that in the first book, the first "magic" he performs is to make a glass wall disappear. A glass wall is a wall that is there, but you can't see it. Also, he didn't need a wand to do the magic. Heck, he didnt' even need a spell. This is pretty similar to Neo's ability to change the Matrix at will rather than according to the rules of programs (i.e. spells).

Even when Potter gets to Hogwarts, it isn't all fun, games and bliss. It is hard work and he still has enemies. This is similar to the idea that life in the Matrix is hard, but life in Zion is even harder.

The Potter books draw on the same ideas and mythos that the Matrx does.

Free your mind, read the books and have some fun.

I was going to specify the similarities but G.A.O.T.O. already summed them up pretty well.
I would just like to add that Harry and Voldemort feel eachother much like the way Neo and Smith do.
Also, Harry is the only one that can save the world (according to a prophecy, interestingly).

Please write constructive replies. This could actually be a pretty interesting topic for a serious discussion.

like matrix, harry potters world is very different then the one we live in.
its exciting, thought provoking action packed and everyone can understant it. harry potter is excellent. we should have more respect and have open mind when we talk about harry potter.
to put him and his world down is disgraceful.

Actually in some ways Neo has it easier. He just calls up a program that gives him lots of guns an *poof* he has lots of guns. Harry has to study and learn the skills over time.

Also, the forces of Zion have already decided that all humans still attached to the Matrix are their enemies. Consequently, they blast everyone in their paths. Harry and his friends are more bound to not hurt muggles. In fact, they aren't even allowed to do magic in front of muggles.

It is therefore much harder for Harry to operate in his world than for Neo to operate in the Matrix.

However, in many ways their plights are similar. They do not have all of the information that they need, yet they are expected to take up the mantle of the only one who can defeat the enemy. Neo is the One to (perhaps) destroy the Matrix while Harry is revealed in the fifth book

G.A.O.T.U. Good point, but Neo had to belive something that he didn't want to belive at first. Harry potter simply accepted that he was a wizard only with a few rejections, but think, Neo went through a lot more pain. He had a electronic bug shoved in his belly, and then he had it taken out (painfully), he was shot, he has to get in a fight with Agents just about everyday. What I was trying to say is, that Neo is way busier, and can't screw up. Harry potter can miss a class and not get that much punished. But if Neo messes up, the world is doomed. See what I mean?

i like harry pothead better than harry potter! hehe. anyway. pothead cant do crap w/out his wand. with out it he would have to result in backing away and sissy slapping with his eyes closed and his face the other way. now neos got the moves, guns, and he can fly. not to mention that neo could have any girl he wants and the best potter can hope 4 is hermione.... id pass.

Guess everyone has his pecularities when it comes to taste; Harry Potter being one of 'em? I didn't like the first Harry Potter. It could have been an 'allright' movie if they opted for better actors and a bit more of an artistic touch in it, sure would have helped. I think it's another one of those real bad kidmovies with no potency at all. It's really everything but creative. When you watch for example a Walt Disney movie (both kid movies although the Disney's are great) and then watch Harry Potter, every human being should be able to understand where the big differences lie! :D

Neo is a grown *VERY HOT* man...while Harry Potter is this little kid who holds no acting skill what so ever... and the books are soo boring I'VE READ the chamber of secrets 2 times and the sorcerers stone 5 times b/c the other books were out of the libary and well they suck terribly it burns my eyes...I mean Daniel Radcliffe (sp?) is a transvesite and Keanu Reeve's isnt (hee hee). Evidence being when Daniel dressed in a purple and pink dress and danced around on stage...

HP movies dont suck as much as the book...they are soo overrated unlike the matrix i dont know how someone could like hp and the matrix and then for some odd reason compare themmm.

well harry and neo do have a few similarities like they're bother considered "special" or more "Powerful" than others.
Of course they also have some big differences like neo is cool and HP is a geek

..I just can't find the similarity between Neo and Harry. I relly like Harry Potter but I just can't find the connection.

See, I always enjoyed the Harry Potter series, but Neo is the One. Harry would be on his knees begging for forgiveness before it was over. Neo, change the Matrix! Harry, petty little wand that needs words to start. It's as simple as one, two, three. Both are great stories, Neo is better!

Yeah, I hate the movies with a passion. I know the books aren't masterpieces but they are fun to read.
I don't think there's ever going to be that discussion that I wanted. There are only like 3 people who stand Harry Potter on this site.

Well, I always found the Harry Potter books interesting. Only because I am into the Science Fiction/ Fantasy stuff. The storylines are good but the Matrix can jsut be watched over and over and be talked about over and over. Therefore, Matrix is better!
