"They are ALL machines" Theory

Unamuno

There's a theory floating around the web that Revolutions will end with an unexpected twist:

Neo, Morpheus, Trinity and everyone trapped in the Matrix and Zion are in fact mere avatars for AI machines held captive by humans in the outside world. The humans actually prevailed in the war depicted in the Second Renaissance (Animatrix) and are using the Matrix to suppress the AI machines.

One major clue to support this theory is the similarity between the name for the last human civilization "ZION" and the last AI civilization "ZERO ONE". They are in fact the same place. In addition, Neo's ability to halt the sentinel at the end of Reloaded makes much more sense.

The theory suggests that there IS a matrix in a matrix but outside of the Zion world are the controlling humans who created it. It also implies that the empathy we've felt for the resistance is actually misdirected sympathy for AI machines trying to escape the man-made mental prison of the Matrix.

Thoughts?...

that definitely puts a whole new perspective on things.

interesting.....do you know of any more supportive points? I wouldn't mind knowing a little more of that theory
chaosphere

That is a VERY interesting theory! It definetly sheds new light on the whole MIAM theory. I have diffiuculty with one point, though.

If we really did win the war with the machines, why would we supress them? Judging by the portrayal of the human attitude towards the machines at that point (crazy looking guy screaming "KILL 'EM ALL, KILL EM ALL!!!!") I would think the sole mission is total destruction, not another period of enslavement.
Granted, it would make sense to go that way, just to have the luxories that a super-advanced race of machines could provide, provided the AI could be kept in a "Matrix for AI", but human nature tells me they'd just obliterate the machines completely. If I went through that hell, I would sure as hell want every one of them destroyed!!

A friend told me about his thought about the outcome of this trilogy. He told me something like this:

"At the end we will see some hackers fighting each other trying to get control of both Matrix and Matrix-Zion. Where each Matrix was created by one of them. Also one of them looks like Woody Allen."

:D
I can only laugh at this. But the matter is that a theory about mans behind the Matrix isn't new to me, althought I had nothing to work with. I have to watch all of the animatrix and play ETM yet. Also, I'm almost sure someone posted here something about all of the rebels as being programs trying to escape the Matrix.

No doubt, it is a theory that must be developed.

Using this point of view the agents can be seen as human writted programs (the good ones) that had to work as firewalls to avoid the other programs to reach the outside world.

my thought is to you and every other person who is giving "theories" of what the outcome of revolutions will be......

STOP THAT $H!T

why are you trying to figure out the movie? their are a thousand "theories" going on in this site about the last movie. dont you just want to wait and see what happens instead of spoil it for yourself? takes the fun out of it in my opinion, but hay, maybe your ego gets stroked if you figure it out.

That would remove all purpose from this website. Request denied.

Chaosphere, I agree that (1) if we developed true AI and (2) they turned out to be really dangerous and (3) we even went to war with our own machines and (4) won that war and found a way to imprison AI, then the logical thing to do next is to erase them.

But I can think of a reason why we wouldn't, and that is also warfare.

We keep samples of smallpox in our military labs, because it's highly infectious, highly fatal, and not easy to immunize against. Probably it's even being used right now to develop even more lethal agents. Wouldn't we do the same thing with AIs?
chaosphere

That makes sense, Paladin. That would be a good reason to keep AI around.
I still don't think that's how it'll play out in Revolutions, but now I won't be suprised if that's the way it all goes down!!! I think that would be an ultra-cool twist to the whole Revolutions mix!
Seba Reloaded

"why are you trying to figure out the movie?"
Because we didn't come here to make the choice about whether we like or not Matrix, we've already made it. We're here to understand why we made it.
"their are a thousand "theories" going on in this site about the last movie."
F***ing truth
"dont you just want to wait and see what happens instead of spoil it for yourself?"
We can't. We don't know what it is but it's there, like a splinter in our mind driving us mad.
"takes the fun out of it in my opinion, but hay, maybe your ego gets stroked if you figure it out."
Don't worry. Nobody will win the pot.
enigma

trying to figure out the end of the trilogy will only mess things up but theory is smart but I think the machines actually did win and why would they hold them they can just destroy them even if we need machines more then anything they actually do control us hahahahahahahahahahahha

The Animatrix movie "Matriculated," while not written by the
Wachowskis, describes the Matrix very much as you do. Your
theory isn't new. In fact, before I saw "Matriculated" I had
speculated on the same theory - humans suppressing AI by
giving them a reality that they could thrive in. One made purely
out of an environment they could relate to: program code. The
way they put that story together pretty much sums up how it
would play out.

I too have heard this ending as being the 'real' ending to the trilogy, however I didn't want to believe it. I can't wait until it comes out. Damn why do we have to wait soooo long ahhhhh.

I had thought of this already, but I think it's highly unlikely.
SIGHT

FINE, YOU ALL WANT TO HAVE THE MOVIE SPOILED. WELL, HERE IS THE ENDING!!!!!!!

its all a video game. some kid is playing play station and chose neo to be the one. he beats the game and starts over using another character. have a good day....
Seba Reloaded

That isn't new, I already thought some like that. But that has no meaning to think about, is too easy. Trying to get the outcome from the M1's and M2's facts is more than a challenge.
Also, it can't be a playstation, it can't draw enough polygons, etc. :D
Matrix Warrior

i'm sure most people have heard of the up coming "matrix online" pc game that comes out next year. it's supposed to be linked to the ending of revolutions so i guess we know that the matrix doesnt get destroyed already.
truthbetold

It's not that they're ALL machines, it's that it's all the Matrix, even Zion, and Neo's just beginning to realize that. The architect said that Neo/Zion cycle has repeated six times, and is in effect just another control system. How can the architect have such control if Zion is in fact a physical place outside the Matrix? I think that in meeting with the architect Neo begins to see the truth. That's why when the sentinels attack at the end he says "something's different" and he attempts to control them like he does with other things in the matrix. That would make sense if he WAS still in the Matrix. The Matrix as depicted in the movies so far may just be a box inside a box. Neo may be the first one who's consciousness is refined enough to detect this, which of course would be the case if he's the One.

This also sets up the possibility that the real, physical world is NOT toxic mess, but a habitable place that we have yet to see. It's NOT that they're all machines. They wouldn't invest this much time just to tell you the characters are machines. You lose the audience connection and the resonance of the struggle. How far down does the rabbit hole go? Even farther than Morpheus realizes.

Just a thought. It's one theory that explains to me Neo's behavior at the end of M2.
Jat

I like this one, but still doesn't have enough points to have certain credibility, keep up trying dudes!
