Man I am still jumping about in my skin since seeing the movie 'The Ring'. Has anyone else seen it? I think it is one of the most fantastic horror/fantasy films that has been put out from Dreamworks company, however digging deeper found the origional movie was brought out in Japan in 1998? I will add links to some really good reference sites on this thread soon.
Love UT
I saw the movie, well I don't think is the best horror movie but it's a great movie, I like it...
i love that movie! although i must admit, it was way better at the cinemas, watching it at home doesn't make it as good... but it rocks! i loved it! i have the poster for it up on my wall! :D
i own the original japanese version on DVD, the storyline is different, and its also poorly done. Kind of boring too... Hollywood spruced it up pretty good! As far as i know, there is Ring 1, 2 and 3 in japanese... so that may mean some followups from hollywood?

Funky I have to talk to you more about this movie little dude. I know we pretty much love the same things but get this...They are bringing out manga as well.
I'll put up some really cool underground links soon connecting the movie to the actual ranch.

well its actualli a japanese horror film changed to an American format. If you loved the American version, maybe you might wanna see the Japanese version. Coz it was the original one.
I haven't seen the American version myself, but I can say the Jap version was pretty good too... :)
I strongly suggest watching the movie. I am usually not freaked out easily but this really rocked me.
havent seen it, kinda wanna see it but im a *****. hehe:(
am i the only one who didn't enjoy THE RING? i mean, there were times were i sorta jumped, but i still wasn't scared. i saw it twice and i was bored. but i always tell my friends that i am kinda hard to scare. like, the movie has to be DAMN GOOD if I'M still talking about how scary it was. i guess the ring was okay. interesting story line. DARKNESS FALLS was okay too. i love scary movies tho... maybe i don't get scared easily cuz i psych myself out or something. i dunno. hmmm.....
I've seen it two times. The first time i saw it at the cinema's and it rocked! it didn't scare me that much, but it scared the hell out of my friends. The second time i watched it over a friends house and it just wasn't as good as the first time. It seemed a bit boring...
... so in saying that, it's all about atmoshphere. I guarantee you that if you were to see it with the best surround sound and picture you can get it will be a much better movie. But if you've already seen the movie its too late and you're doomed to not think it's that great for ever! :)
I havn't watched the complete japanese version, i've seen bits here and there. But from what i saw, the storyline was good but the actual movie itself was done poorly. It's your average japanese horror, very dodgy and slightly amusing...

Oh The Ring was one freaky movie. I really enjoyed that one. In my opinion one of the better horror/thriller movies out there.
I agree crahan. I never get scared of good horror films, but for some reason my blood ran cold. The thing that freaked me out was we were sitting there watching the movie and then suddenly the dvd jammed and it was stuck on the frame of samara (little evil ghost) and when hubby got up to get the good old drill to get the bloody dvd out of my $500 player, the phone rang and no-one in the house answered it...lol.
It had everthing a horror film should have and more. It was based on a real life person.

RINGU!!!!!!!!!
No but one time at a movie store I almost accidenly rinted RINGU instead of the ring! but I noticed the discripsion was in japonise on the back!
I personally found 'The Ring' to be the creepiest movie I have ever seen. I actually screamed in the theater... and that is saying a lot. I'm usually not at all phased by scary movies... and I suppose that it's because I was exposed to Hell Raiser and such when I was 5 or 6... so consequentially most movies don't scare me, but this one did!!:p
I really freaked out for a week whenever the phone rang or the TV would show a static channel (you know, the white snow). The scene near the end at the guys appartment was the freakiest ever (I'm not going to describe it in detail since some people might not yet have seen it). ;)
Well we died when the phong rang in our place. But I now have something scarier trying to ring....My mum ahhhhhh.
No I just woke up and shrunk my window and Jay had put a huge pic of her face on my wallpaper so I am shakin at the moment.
i havent seen it and it will be a while uhtil i do
I love scary movies so I was very anxious to buy it because I didn't get to see it in the movies. After I watched it I put it away and and didn't watch it again for about three months later when my husband was teasing me because I was too scared to watch it again. I loved the movie but it scared the hell out of me.
is it that good i guess i really have to see it.
i havent seen the movie but ive heard its relly good
hello...*loking confused*...where did everyone go???
its the best movie without acutally telling a story, the makers really focused on how it would look than what would tell lol cuz they didnt feel like being creative the ringu really rocked my socks... darn that stringy old man!
The Ring and Ringu have several differences. The most apparent being the budget for special effects, which IMO are done much better in the American version. One other difference is that the father of the little boy is psychic in Ringu. The storylines differ somewhat, and Ringu is filmed in Japan. Some will say that they liked the Japanese version better, but I think that's just to sound cool.
The opening scene (in the American version) was the scariest scene in the entire movie. The movie has just started, and there are two girls alone in a house, you have no idea what could potentially happen to them in that house, and that makes for the worst kind of suspense. Added to that the performance of Naomi Watts (also in Mullholland Drive), which was far better than the japanese woman in Ringu, and you have a classic horror movie. Very original, although it's a remake. It needed to be remade, the special effects in the American Version outdid the SE in the Japanese version.

I see what your saying, it was pretty good for a remake, lol unlike Texas Chainsaw Massacre -that movie was completely bastardized w/ Jessica Biel, oh the poor cult classic now reduced to a terrible remake with too much annoying screaming.
I might say that, being a biased Asian, the Jap one is the BEST!!! But I haven't seen the American one yet, so I will reserve my judgement for a while.
I still think Sadako will kick Samara's butt though.

lol thats the best reason to like the ringu but the ringu is better
in terms of horror/suspense
Yes, I enjoyed watching Ringu, and if I ever find the 2nd and 3rd Ringu I will watch them. The thing that makes The Ring better than Ringu is the special effects of Samara's victims and IMHO Naomi Watts performance as an actress.
I'm going to be Samara from the ring at school for 50 mins on Halloween! Cuz i get to say quotes like "everyone will suffer" and "before you die you see the ring" and I'm going to have my hair all infront of my face ^___^ I like my hair down. I just need a light colored shirt that Samara would wear have a look of what i am aiming to look like http://ringworld.somrux.com/images/samara_clinicCap.jpg ... Samara is cool
