how the hell do they know who superman is

in matrix reloaded the computer bloke says

"he's doing his superman thing again"

this means he knows about superman but he lives and was born in the real world so how does he know who superman is

Do we know for sure that he was born in Zion?

This was brought up a few weeks ago, and conclusion was that people from the Matrix that were comic fans might have taken on the task of continuing their own version of superman on whatever news/leisure media they have available.

or it could have been word of mouth too.

Or as example:
Just because I learn a recipe in the matrix, doesn't mean I can't make that recipe outside of the matrix - and tell others about it, or publish that recipe (assuming I have access to distributed medias).

Pretty sure I read it's (The Matrix) set around our time (end of 21st century), so Superman is naturally going to be in the history and what people watch.

Sure, most of the people in the matrix would know about superman, but the people born outside the matrix would only know about superman if someone from the inside told them about his stories.

I was thinking maybe it's because the ship operators are constantly hacking the Matrix, taking whatever files they want. Obviously they're all over the internet. Remember it is supposed to be right now, when ANY entertainment media is available. All those people in Zion, and they've never seen a classic movie. :(
