Smith Symbol

UnknownAnomaly

What is the symbol that smith is carving in his hand? I heard some theory's but i wanna know the facts. If someone could get a screen shot that would be kewl. Thanks
Lt_Damage

Yes I would also really like to know why he was doing that. I thought maybe it was two failed attempts to kill Neo in the False real world..

But if anyone knows more please do tell.

Smith has never felt pain before and he likes it.

I think those cuts were bane trying to hurt smith. They are like two minds in one body struggling for control. It is ALL about Control is it not??? haha

bane hates smith, smith hates bane. suicide is the only way out... or in?
Gore

i don't agree with that... i think it was just Smith experimenting... and he wanted to feel the pain he would put Neo through.
gsxrneo1

I wouldn't really take it as a meaning or symbol....he is justing realizing what it feels like to bleed

Yep. I don't think there's much of Bane left in there. The whole
turn-into-tar sequence sums it up. As Morpheus says, the body
cannot live without the mind - but in this case the mind was
substituted. After Bane/Smith shakes Neo's hand, he says "We'll
see you" referring to the many Smiths that await Neo in the
Matrix :)

Intresting possibility, but I don't think so. Why would he waist effort to cut his hand? Just go for the gold.
Smithmatic

I think Bane was experimenting with pain and wanted to know what pain xactly is since he never had felt it before. But I think Lt. Damage brings up a good point when he says that the two marks resemble the two failed attempts at Neo's life.

I was thinking about a sign too, but Smith's interest in Pain is justified, he always seemed quite filosophical...

Wanting to leave the Matrix and so on...

But I wonder why he wanted to kill Neo. He seemed to want to get out of the Matrix.. Isn't that more important to him than executing some order from a master he no longer serves?

Yeah, and he cuts a third time in ETM, prob after fighting neo in the burly brawl scene. That would mean that bain/smith shares a connection to the matrix even when not in it.

However, if you had never felt pain before, you would want to, to see what it was like. It's natural curiousity.
eRider

erh, i think that Smith has felt pain be4 .. in m1, when he gets killed by Neo, it seemed pretti much as if he were in great pain
Terikan

lol, I think his muscles, simulating those of a humans, were just jerking around uncontrollably. maybe he felt like he was getting deleted, so he screamed, hmmm, well, or maybe they just didn't think that part through enough :P

See smith thinks that his purpose is to kill neo, he dosen't know its gonna be destroyed or anything. Like he said, its purpose that brought him there, so he believes his purpose is to kill neo, therfore a free mind in zion is perfect to complete that job. Its not just two lines either. In Enter The Matrix he begins to carve more. See if you wanna know it all you must see it all. The wachowski brothers are all over it and they spread it out. It takes time i know but its time well spent in my opinon.
SecretTrinity

bane is still half contoling himslef he is trying to kill smith so he will get out of his body so bane is still inside
Terikan

I really don't think so ST, just doesn't look like he's fighting himself, or he'd go for the heart or something more fatal.
UnknownAnomaly

Yeah, Bane is history. His mind was taking over. Neo said it himself, he knew what it felt like when smith was trying to take him over. It felt like dying. Bane is dead. Smith is there now. It is a symbol i know it. He cut two perfect parrallel lines and in the game one accross those. Im sure it means something knowing the W bro's and all.

Could the two lines Bane cuts into his hand be two-thirds of the symbol for Pi ?
Outside the Oracle's apartment there is graffiti on the wall to the left of the door. One of the symbols is pi inside of a circle.
Remember 314 seconds ? 3.14 etc...
One revolution is basically a circle. Many circles would therefore be revolutions.
Pi is considered unsolvable or infinite in its solution.

I have no idea where I'm going with this but that is what popped into my head the first time I saw Bane cutting parallel lines in his hand. Whattaya think ?

I think you may be on to something. Remember in M1, Morpheus says "time is always against us." When they went to the Oracle, she must have wanted to bake a pi, but didn't have time, so she just made cookies instead. Aha!

(OK, that was just plain silly, but I couldn't resist...)

Very Interesting. In which movie did you see the symbol carved on the ORacle's apartment wall ? I'd like to look for that.

Hmmm, good ideas! I have never thought that Pi but now.. it could be.. :)

smith has never felt pain b4 thats y hes doing it, see my thread "Matrix in a Matrix - Lets get this straight
Legend's Heir

I haven't played Enter the Matrix... where does the Bane draw the third line? I thought he was gonna carve pi into his hand, but he stopped at two lines. If he did indeed cut across the top of both lines, that'd look like pi... but why?
The Matrix is a cycle of destruction and renewal - a circular existence. Smith may be out of the Matrix, but he's not free. The only way to be free of the Matrix is to stop the cycle - kill Neo. Otherwise, Smith will just be rewritten into the new Matrix. Pi is, for all intents and purposes, infinite - a concept that we (humans) can't grasp. So is, in theory, the existence of the Matrix. And that's as far as I can take this... 'course, it might not be a symbol at all.
Meh.

i have a ?.... can ne one answer? - The Freeway Scene...
