Everthing happens in America

The Logos

have u noticed that everything in films happens in America even the matrix.
The Logos

I say that films should be set in different countries cuz after a while America gets boring.
Neo6th

Every film does not happen in America, I know at least 50+ films that have been made outside of the USA.
Unplugged03

Um, the Matrix was filmed in Australia. . .?
The Logos

Ok so it was shot in australia but it is set in America.
smith_fan

Don't become so anti-american:D I think it's not so important, where it takes place, is it?

*pf* there are other films I would complain more about in that point.
Shouldn't bother one much where the plot takes place as long as that plot is great.

Actually, all of the Matrix films were shot with a concept of cities with no names, and you never see any actual landmarks in either of the films to date.

For more information on this, watch The Matrix: Revisited. They talk a lot about the filming locations. (At least for M1)
The Logos

i admit its not just the setting and as long as the plot is good it does not realy matter that much but i still think film makers should have some different setting for a change-just think about how mony films are set in America.
Siron

:D ok ok who reprimands you? :) that's your opinion and in that point you may be right
potis21

Well, i hope that Holywood has understand that globalisation works. This is how The Matrix came my favorite movie. e.g. Armaggedon left me with the impression that this is an American planet, so did Independence Day. I loved Contact.
Terikan

Well, america is the most important country, everything in politics relates or revolves around it somehow. You'd have to change that first.

And technically, the matrix looks like a US city, but isn't one :P

And there are plenty of movies that don't have the US as a setting, they just aren't the big buck blockbusters like matrix, they are the smaller films. If you don't like those kinds of movies, that's really your fault.
ThereIsNoMatrix

Could have sworn the first Matrix, at least, was meant to be in Chicago. The exit that Neo goes to at the end of the movie is at Wabosh and Lake. Been a couple years since I've lived in Chicago, but I believe that's a real place, right next to a L track that turns to follow the lake. Makes sense, seeing how Neo just fought Smith at a subway stop.

Anywhich way, the characters in the movie look pretty American, so it would be a bit odd if you set them in Hong Kong or some other country. Even if they did though, it would bother me one bit. The fact that it's set in America or not doesn't bother me one bit.
WildCard

Yeah, I believe the W-Bros are from Chi-town and all the streets used were true Chicago intersections.

As for movies using the US as central location of the movie, don't you think that maybe it's just because it's filmed by a US company, marketting (atleast first) to a US audience?

To the poster that mentioned Armageddon, wasn't that funny how American a movie it was? :) I love that movie and it's the movie that gets me the closest to cryin' in a few scenes, but there are some scenes that make me gag with the sugary overly American shots. It's weird, because they try to show different countries in the end...

Something I noticed just the other day after seeing it over 10 times - did you notice in the end as everyone is celebrating that it was daytime (like 3pm lighting) around the world? :) It wasn't nighttime anywhere. hehe

Independence day, yes, it was American ingenuity that found their weakness! We created the Mac virus!!! :)

Contact was a great movie with global view.

Oh yes, I remember: "Independence Day" - one of the movies, where we could see American flags every 40 seconds:D - so weird, the director Roland Emmerich is German and has created such a movie;)
Choi

First of all I am an American, I am proud to be an American, but I think it's repulsive that the pride of other Americans breeds such arrogance to make them say things as America is the only important country.

With that said in the Matrix Revisited Lord Joel Silver even says that the skyline is of Sidney Australia; However all of the land marks are removed so that it's just an un-named city that could exist anywhere. Furthermore as Neo is flying through the city in Reloaded, I found the city to be quite large, larger than any city I've seen, sorta two cities combined, a true metropolis.
WildCard

hehe, Choi, don't let Terikan's comment get you down. I am pretty sure he said it for amusement/shock value. :)

Blaise

yeh i think too many films are set in USA, but a lot of stuff does actually happen in America in real life.

ThereIsNoMatrix: love ur signature btw:D  very 'cool'

Yes The Logos I mentioned this problem about a week ago.

'I'm from great britain and one thing i didn't like about the first movie was that
when Neo and co. can enter the matrix anywhere globally
the only place considered worth visiting was america.

I was glad that in the second movie they acknowledged that
if you sail too far off the east coast you don't fall off the edge of the world.

Josh.'

You see when I watch say Friends, I know that they live in New Yok so don't expect shots from other cities/countries etc.
But from the very premise of the movie that the world is a matrix, it is ridiculous that there only appear to be exits in america and the only place they go to is america.
I'd have gone to barbados myself but you get my point. There are no flights etc. they just have to enter the matrix at a different location.

Also note that the Nebacanezzer had to have been built in america in 2069.

Josh.
eRider

like said be4 in this thread ... NOT all movies are set up in US ..

shall i name some few?
Kungfuafrican

the animatrix episode "beyond" takes place in a matrix version of japan. so at least you can get a reliable car in the matrix...
Daedalus

Also note that the Nebacanezzer had to have been built in america in 2069.

Hey, for all we know they could have designed it in Russia, sent the plans off to America for constuction and shipped the finished product to Norway for usage :D

Not that I'm saying that's what happened...
Kungfuafrican

the neb was definitely a cheap sweatshop product. i mean, the crew had to hitch a ride home at the end of reloaded. now that's not a sign of quality worksmanship. and there probably aren't that many callboxes in the real world.
WildCard

Don't forget, the part in the beginning of M1, Neo was asleep by the computer and one of the newsposts was something like 'Massive Manhunt for Morpheus in someplace in Britian'. Check it out, I forget the city, I believe it was a British city though.

Hey cool wildcard.

Does anyone know which city it was?

Josh.
ThereIsNoMatrix

Actually it was made in America. Watch M1 and when they pan accross the plate on the Nebuchednezzar that says it's name, right under it are the words "MADE IN USA" or something to that effect.

Blaise: Thanks lol.

Anywhich way I still stick by the fact that it's set in America because an American company produced it, and the actors looked American... Would just look out of place to see Neo fighting 100 Agent Smiths in the middle of a park in Tokyo or some other city with a bunch of Japanese civilians walking around.
Indigo & Violet

THE MATRIX: If you check the end where Morpheus is hanging from the helicopter they fly over the Warner Bros. Tower.

I guess it's got to be set somewhere(!) and as most of the top actors in the world have american accents...

Are there any books coming out?
Are there comic book novels?

Having watched the Animatrix I'd love to know more about what's happening elsewhere (other than Zion). One of the animatrix shorts is set on an island where people live above ground near the sea. This is the kind of thing I'd like to see more of.

However, it could all be academic if the TRUTH really is that no-one has left the matrix yet. i.e. it's ALL still set in the matrix.

Ho Hum.

I thought the man hunt in the begining was global, and I think it was Afhganistan (sorry spelling).

Anyway I am a HUGE 'indie' film lover and I also adore anything produced by channel 4 films. And to my German friends on the site, you people Rock when it comes to your films I love them.

Really??? I don't like german movies. They are mostly bad and haven't got a good story. Yes, I know I'm German but nevertheless the most German movies are crap.
Daedalus

yeah, i kno it says made in the USA :)

...still dont mean it was designed there though... :p

...I mean when you get a football that's been made/built/put together/whatever in China, it doesn't mean it was designed there too...

...and a car made in America can be used in Britain or Germany or something if it was bought from over there...or something like that
The Logos

Obviously I dont mean every film is set in America just a lot of them.

Terikan - 'Well, america is the most important country...'

I thought that Japan was the richest nation (by GDP) so in terms of capatalist values surely Japan is more important.
