why is the big eyed monkey thing in the animatrix put into that tube filled w/ green

-liquid? was there a purpose?

You know, I really have no clue WHY the monkey thing was even there...perhaps to distract the machines(?)

it was acting kind of like a video camera... like the other people could see through its eyes, notice how it was plugged in?

it did seem like it was trying to distract the machines, but if it was acting like a video camera so those other ppl could see that would mean the monkey thing is part machine or w/e the they wouldnt have plugged he monkey into that thing where they interact or w/e w/ the machine

it was plugged in the same way it (and the humans) were plugged into the matrix... it was not half robot or anything like that... they just plugged into the monkey and saw through its eyes like you would through a video camera...

Oh. that does make sense. I just wished they had explained it better in the film!

Bak again! But i have to add how the monkey dude had big eyes so the video camera thing makes EVEN MORE sense.

no, animals in the matrix are just simulated programs. I don't know how this monkey came to having a plug... but it just does and that's all that matters...

... animals such as the small monkey would be pointless to harvest... humans are the only thing that the A.I. harvest.

Now let's be honnest here, this is anime we are talking about. It's bound to be hard to grasp some of the deeper consepts and/or meanings... Now I haven't watched any of the episodes... (getting them next week, sooooooo excited! :D) but if you've ever watched Spirited Away, you'd be used to it. Anime is crazy, and that's what I like about it, oh and the artistry... yeah

I've just finished watching all of the episodes and "bonus data" and I deffinetly agree with FunkyHorror on the camera thing... The monkey thing might even be another robbot that they have re-program... or maybe not... probably not

I think i have a theory or two about the purpose of the monkey.
#1 Maybe the machines are only programmed to seek out and destroy human life (perhaps he died as an accident during the battle) and he's therefor used for reconnaissance missions.
#2 In Reloaded, the Architect mentions "levels of survival we are prepared to accept". Perhaps the machines also use animals as power sources? That would explain why the monkey has "holes".

Well I have to agree with funkyhorror on that whole monkey camera thingie lol :D But I have to say that monkey thing was kinda quite and I hate the fact that it dies at the end of the cartoon! But I have to admit it is kinda freaky creepy lookin! lol U imagine havin that thing as a pet and like it is sleeping wit u in ur bed at it's sitting at the foot of the bed, in the dark, just staring at u with those big yellow eyes!!! :eek: :eek: lol Whew that sent a bunch of of hairs on my arms and down my back to raise up!! lol Oh am I goin to sllep tonight?! lol :D :) :D

I know what you mean. It's just disturbing to see that monkey in a green canister to begin with even though I know he/she's harmless.

Also I wasn't aware of the monkey being a digital video camera. I'm not sure if there's much use for the monkey other than that and a creepy cute pet. I kept asking myself why is that damn thing there to begin with.

yeah it would be kinda creepy to wake up in the middle of the night and by your side was a baby bush monkey looking thing just staring at you in liquid with those big eyes...creepy

This whole thing about the machines maby using the monkeys as a power source has got me thinking. I mean why didnt the machines just use a higher primate as their source of energy? There would be no need for such a complex matrix and no need for there to be any agents to control people in the matrix. Oh and another thing. Dont you think the machines should have realised that zion is made up of mostly people freed from the matrix and picked up in the sewer bit. I mean in M1 when Neo wakes up from the matrix he goes down a pipe and into some water where the Neb picks him up. Wouldnt the machines have realised this, and so they wouldnt have put the woken up humans in a place where they could have been rescued?

the machines did find out and sent the agent to get him or something like it...

if you listened to the Architect, he explains that Zion plays a major role in the configuration of the matrix, and it had been destroyed six times previously... they know Zion is there... it's all part of the master plan :)

Right on, Zion is the, for lack of a better term, "holding place" for those who reject the matrix, and for what's its worth, I think you all are reading too much into the dang monkey. Of course you never know. . .
