Life within the Matrix

trimax

Is life within the Matrix really that bad?... Are the machines that control the Matrix truly evil?

One can make the argument that the Matrix is indeed a good (pleasant) thing for humans, as their situation could be much worse... The reality for humans is that they are a source food, and futhermore destine for death.

The Matrix was created to disguise this reality and give the humans a better life (perception), rather than live in a conscious state during thier days of proliferation. Thus, it appears the machines created the Matrix to give the humans a better way of life... It's like humans allowing cows to roam the fields and enjoy life, rather than keep them trapped within a cage.
Helix

Just because you put a cow in a field does not mean that it is any less cruel that you are going to "harvest" them. However, you do raise an interesting point.

I have to go but I'll be back to continue this.
[TLG]Delphi

Well, that's the whole point! Is life really that bad in the Matrix? No, offcourse not, because it was designed to simulate a world where people would be able to live normally (in order to get the most energy off their bodies :p ).
So life inside the Matrix is experienced 'normal'. Only to the free minded like Neo and Morpheus it's a hell, because they know that all inside the matrix isn't real.
Personally I like living in the Matrix more than the Real World, just like Cypher realized. If you were set free, what would you do? The Sentinels are everywhere, the only place to go is Zion, which is treaten in 'Matrix Reloaded'. I like my life better inside the Matrix, but I want to be aware that I'm in it.
Interesting thought though!
Helix

Yeah I guess I can understand what you are saying, but I still feel that I would not want to be living somewhere where I know that I am just a piece of cattle and that I am being herded (metaphorical). I would much rather live in the world where I am not living a lie. The AIs could all of sudden find another energy source and then decide to kill all the humans. I just coudln't live with that fear!
[TLG]Delphi

The point is that you don't know you're being killed by the Sentinels. They just simulate a more 'natural' death in the Matrix. Only free minded know they are slaughtered.
Maybe it's not so bad to 'not know' ;).
Sigma

Good post Cyph....er.......Trimax! Kidding, of course. You do bring up a good point. Life within the Matrix does not seem all that bad, like you all said, because they do not realize they are being decieved. But one can't just walk into...uh.....wherever that is smashing pods and liberating mankind, eh? They must be given a choice, like Neo, and Cypher, to exit the Matrix. Though the problem is what if someone decides, as Cypher did, that they want to return? Then a certain few freedom fighters have a problem, now don't they. My next point was that there's not much of a life outside the Matrix, but I guess the point is to liberate enough people to be able to fight the machines, am I right? I'm still slightly new to the Matrix, so you'll have to pardon my ignorance on some counts. If I'm talking with too good grammar, if that's possible, someone do me a favor and slap me once or twice. When I get into conversations like this, I tend to want to up my vocab-o-meter to make my points sound intellegent. Once again, good post guys.....or girls.......yeah. I'm a guy in case anyone was wondering. Rambling again......
Helix

Lol, sigma, its all good, I personally dont mind people rambling. Kinda funny to read. Don't worry , you'll catch on pretty quickly, we are all hardcore fans here, and we talk a LOT, you cant help but join in. Never be afraid to post your ideas, they may not be as crazy as they sound...
Sigma

Good to hear. Say, I had this idea about a cetain Gungan being the master of the machines, an agent, and the one(you prolly won't get it unless you're a Star Wars fan. The entire community hates Jar Jar. Old joke. Never Mind...)
[TLG]Delphi

Jar Jar rules big time! :D
Helix

If you are interested in talking about Jar Jar go to the lounge and start a thread, maybe you'll find others like you! (doubt it) (jk!)

:D
batosai

Well that is good idea on the machines being kind of decent to the human race but it is still sick in a way that machines actually use us as a food source. but it is a lso humane for some of the people in this world of humans. like if you have some people that hack the real world they feel better in another world or for people to get away from the insanity of this choatic world but overall its pretty good in the real world so i can go either way on this idea. later until next time!
Helix

Yeah but you are a prisoner, just because they let you have a natural death doesnt mean that they are not killing you. Its weird and confusing but I still wouldn't like the fact to know that I am trapped.
trimax

The reason I brought up this argument was to test the mind so to speak... Personally, I would think everone here at this site would want to be set free to fight against and destroy the machines... Who says that the humans must accept the reality of being nothing more than energy (food) for the machines?

You have to admit though, not everyone is a fighter... There are those inside the Matrix who are unaware of the system (the Matrix)... As Morphious said to Neo, "You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many fo them are so inert... so hopelessly dependent on the system... that they will fight to protect it."

It is for these people that the Matrix is a good thing... It is (in their minds) reality... However, for those like you and me, and Neo and Morphous... The Matrix is deadly trap!
Sigma

I think you are on the right track, there, trimax, in that some are just not suited to reality. But if the machines are to be destroyed, what choice do they have than to be free?

If someone could clerify something for me real quick, what do you mean by humans being "food" for the machines? Are you using that figuratively? I thought they were merely a source of energy. Sorry to get off topic, but it does pertain to this discussion.
Helix

Yeah, but also think about this: Which is more exciting, sma old everyday life, or fighting evil AIs that have taken over humankind? I don't know about you, but I think it would be great to be fighting VS. the AIs!!
[TLG]Delphi

It's only great if you're on the winning hand, believe me :D
Sigma

Very good point, Delphi, but it is only assumed that the good guys will win out in the end.

...like in every Hollywood production :p
Sigma

Precisley, and thats the way it should be, I guess. I find myself wanting a movie where the bad guys win, or at least where it seems like they win, but the good guys have an "inner victory" or something. But who would wanna watch Darth Maul sit around and rule the universe? The man doesn't talk, for one. But thats for another fan site.
[TLG]Delphi

In a trilogy you can let the good guy lose in the first movie, and let him lose again in the second movie, but let him win in the third movie...
Sigma

True, and very true, at that. But the good guys won the battle in the first movie, yet not the war. But (mini-semi-not-really-spoiler) people who saw Reloaded last night said that it ends in a fairly decent cliff-hangar, so maybe they won't win this time around......
[TLG]Delphi

I don't manage my English so well: what's a cliffhanger? (besides a type of car)
Sigma

No problem. A cliffhanger is a point in a story where it leaves everything open-ended. Neither good nor evil has won, a main character is about to die, there is a big battle about to happen, something like that. It makes the reader, or watcher, want to know more. Like the end of most chapters in a book.
Helix

And to add to that, cliffhanger is also like a synonym for suspense.

Anyway, yeah I just saw Reloaded and I definetly would call it a cliffhanger, and if you wait till all the credits are done, it shows a commercial for the 3rd movie, which is awsome cause you see that the final battle will happen in the third movie.
Helix

PS. I'm glad to see that so many members are using the new avatars I made!
batosai

Hey helix where can i find avatars that you made?
Helix

Under USER OPTIONS, at the bottom, just click on CHANGE AVATAR and pick. You get more options the more posts you post.
Sigma

I love the one I'm using now(THE Matrix[scroll]). Unless you make another one like it, I'll probably sticj with this one throughout my stay here.
Helix

I'm thinking I'm gonna make one like it that is just running. I am also working on a 100 agent smith one, and a pic of the 100 agent smith explotion (when neo hits them into the air at once) and then ill be making one of the two truck explosion in the Matrix Reloaded. Oh yeah, does anyone have any requests?
[TLG]Delphi

I request the one I'm running, but then moving from up to down.
Helix

Yeah, that is definetly on my list of avatars to make and if you didnt see my other post: My laptop screen died on me. I am hopefully going to get it replaced this afternoon. Luckily I backup all my files and programs frequently so not a lot was lost. This will, however, put a little more time onto how soon we can get the newest avatars up. Sorry. Anyway, anyone else with requests?
Sigma

Count my vote for the scrolling Matrix. Maybe you could make it exclusively for people named Sigma.......and maybe Delphi, too.......he's cool.......

Well buy this (http://www.gobookmax.com/) laptop then! For us Matrix fans a must have! You can fall down a 24 level building, but can your laptop? This one can!
Helix

LOL, tough laptop. I am thinking about getting another Toshiba Satellite, but does anyone who knows their laptops have any suggestions??
[TLG]Delphi

To stay ontopic: I guess your Toshiba laptop represents only about 4 TB in the Matrix... Go buy yourself an Apple Macintosh! :p
Helix

Lol, well, no offense, but ive always used Windows and I'm kinda used to it. Anyone know any good non-Apple laptops?

PS. I will admit that some of the Apples are sweet!
[TLG]Delphi

I'm not Apple user either, but I know it's a good product though (friends have Powerbooks, really sweet). If you want a good laptop with Microsoft Windows on it, go to http://www.alienware.com/ and look for the Area 51 notebook. But now back on topic.
Helix

Yeah, its sweet, but the Area 51 I saw on the site was a desktop. I'm not sure if I need a desktop, but I'll consider it.
elixir

Hello,
I am new to this forum and new to the Matrix concept but find it extremely interesting and know there is more to the message of the movie than pure entertainment. Can someone kindly explain what the Matrix concept is all about and what its true message is. As I think its message has some contribution to each of us in our lives.
Any imput is highly appreciated, thanks!
Helix

To type all that to you would take HOURS. But if you look, most of the forum is about that, just spend some time looking around and reading posts, you will find a lot of threads pertaining to your questions. :D
