"Keanu Reeves was the saviour of the Matrix sequels back when he gave his salary of 30 million towards the movie's extra large special effects budget."
Just thought that was an interesting fact.
that was nice of 'em. I've also heard that he gave the stunt men from Reloaded and/or Revolutions Harley Davidsons

He did:) A very generous man he is.
I think that he is a really nice man. He must have wanted the films to do really well.
Really?
That's fantastic...
hmm, yeah, but did you also know that in return he asked for 15% of the profit (everything, from T shirts to games and movies) of the matrix stuff.
TVG where do you get that from?
Well, if he did it no strings attached, it was really cool of him. I've heard he's much nicer than the other Hollywooders. (that a word? Oh, whatever.)
Yeah, every person on the set of the Matrix commented on what a nice and generous man he is. Carrie-Ann Moss said "and I mean really, unlike any other person I've met" or something along those lines. ;)
hey hey, guys. I like the guy as much as you do.
I just read that in a movie magazine in my cinema.

Hmm, pay within the highest tax bracket (what is it, 39%?) to the government, or give it away and write it off...
Looks to me like Neo's flipping the system off once again :)
I came across this article concerning this topic.

Perhaps that is true, but I have read numerous magazine [not website] articles/interviews on Keanu and they have stated otherwise. That he DID buy harley davidson [sp?] motorcycles for them and that he did reject a slice of profit for the movie. Anyway, weather he has or hasnt, I still believe hes a very generous man and I'm obviously still a fan. ;)
i'm a bit confused. don't actors usually get like $3-10 million each for their role in the movie?
there were some big names in the trilogy, and with a combined
budget of $300 mil, all of the special effects, tens of millions in
equipment, the entire highway scene (which was taped on a rea highway) how was he able to afford to "donate"
$30 mil. sure he has a lot of money, but that would mean
that he would not only do the movie for free but also give up
a LOT of his own money.
he's an actor and he makes a living by acting. i've heard that
he did give away quite a bit of money to various charities, etc
but $30 mil to help finance the movie, that just doesn't make
any sense.
it's like suggesting that warner brothers, the multi billion dollar
aol time warner giant couldn't afford to make the movies.
something don't smell right.

Hmm that is true... Good points. But I've read in many different magazines, sites, and articles in general that Keanu helped make sure Reloaded was reinforced with all of it's special effects by donating some money. However maybe $30 is a little far-fetched [that is what www.matrixfans.net said] but with all the info, I'm sure he still gave *some* money away.
he got $30M because it was a long role, i mean that most film take 5 months to film, Reloaded and Revolutions took 3 years, so he gets a lot more. AOL does have billions but not in cash, its tied up in shares and so $300M was probably all the cash they had. Keanu Reeves also got his pay packet a few weeks ago of $50M for both films. he got a raise becuase without him it would not have happened. Then he shared the extra $20M between all the crew who worked in the film.
yep he swent 13 harly davidsons to all 13 stuntmen in austrailia
must be nice to have $3- $30 million extra to throw around. I'm lucky if I got $30 bucks.

He didn't give 30 million dollars... he gave over 80 million dollars, over the course of both sequals, to the costumes and special effects. On top of that he's donating massive amounts of money to find a cure for leukemia.
Pretty nice guy.
WOW, all I can say is WOW. What a generous man he is, WOW........What a man......
did you know that "The Matrix Reloaded wasn't actually filmed on a used highway, they built one, and it was massive, you can check out the behind the scenes photos of it on www.whatisthematrix.com
Yeah, n I think it costed the someting like 1 miliion dollars to do n somebody donated the cars.
He also gave 12 customized harleys to the stuntmen that did the burly brawl scene with him. Talk about being generous :p
View Full Version : Keanu Reeves gave back $30 Million
