Names...

I think it is extreamley interesting how they named the characters in the Matrix.
Take Morpheus. Morpheus was the Greek god of sleep who brings changes in sleep via dreams. I think that's fitting, don't you?
Persephone was the daughter of the goddess of I think it was spring, correct me if I'm wrong. At any rate, Persephone ends up getting herself into a big mess with Hades, god of the underworld and has to be his bride. hmm....interesting....
Neo is the japanese word for "new"...you can have about 2 million different explanations as to why that one works, so I won't go there.
As for trinity, in Christian religions it represents the father son, and holy ghost...it also means pretty much three things(usually beings) that are one. So, go figure...
I just think that this topic is really, really interesting, and doesn't really get talked about much. I would love to hear people's opinions and thoughts about it. Any names you would like to add or elaborate on would be very much apreciated. Thanks

I think Persephone was the daughter of the goddess of the harvest. As for other names, Ill post any if I think of them. I also heard that "Sereph" the oracle's guardian has a name meaning something. Im not to sure on that though.

A city of gentiles (people who are not jewish) but it does have a meaning in HEBREW. I'll have to look it up. Oh and Nebechenezzar(or however you spell it) Was the King in the story of shadrack, meshak and abendigo for those of you who know the story. For those who don't Neb. was a king who tried to make all the people in his Kingdom bow down and worship him like a god. His plan didn't quite work out however...but I don't think I'm going to go into detail. Niobe is a character in Bible too...I'll have to look her up too...

I dont remember what Persephone was goddess of but i dont think it was spring... I was discussing this w/ my friend yesterday.... I forgot most of what she told me but Persephone goes and talks w/ Hades in the underworld and they get married and Persephone ate something it started w/ a "c" but i dont remember what the word was, but the point was that persephone ate 4 of the things that start w/ a "c" so she was released from the underworld but had to come back 4 months of a yr i think the months are around winter like november and december...

Persephone ate pomegranate seeds.
Niobe was the queen of Thebes in greek mythology.
Zion aka "the city of david" also is a symbol of Jeruselem. Was formerly part of Palestine.

to the Celtic people the word Zion means "a stone fortress"

Zion is the largest clue in the movie which hints that the movie's story line has something to do with Secret Societies, Religion, and Kabbalistic majic. As this thread has to do with names, I'll stick to those in a quick summary (maybe I'll write a detailed analysis with historical reference):

Most importantly, Zion is a name of a mountain in Palestine next to Jerusalem. (Jabal Sahyoon). Jesus Christ gave some of his last sermons on that mountain. After the dispersion of the nation of Israel (for rejecting Christ as the Messiah as some Kabbalistic Rabbis deviated from God's path and adopted majic and esoteric Satanist knowledge from the ancient Egyptian maji), groups of "Jews" have been planning the return of Israel back to the Holy Land. They were finally successful this past century, with the state of Israel being set up by the "Zionist" movement.

Considering that the the state of Israel (on the land of Palestine) is the state of Zion, it is very interesting that two of the largest allies of Zion in the Matrix movies are Councillor Haman and the Nebuchednezzar.

Historically, Haman was Pharoah's high councillor (who originated from the Canaanite tribes of Palestine) and it was under Pharoah's and Haman's persecution that the Jews were led to the land of Zion by Moses. In the movie, Haman is the councillor of Zion!

Also historically, King Nebuchednezzar of Babylon (present day Iraq) is the man who destroyed the first state of Israel (a few centuries BC)with his Imperial army and destroyed the temple of Solomon in Jerusalem. (Is this the temple referred to in the movie?) Again, his name is used as an ally of Zion as the name of the vessel that the matrix heroes use. Notice that Neb's failure leads to the destruction of Zion, and later its own destruction.

The Architect is significant, since it is the name given to God by freemasonry. (The Architect of the universe) This hints that the Architect is God and that Zion, and its "saviour" Neo, defy God. (Also note the imagery when Neo meets the Architect, white/pure God vs black/(evil?) Neo). Food for thought.

Neo is the Greek word for "new" and I believe it refers to the "New God", as Neo in the movie starts out as the "Chosen One" (reference to being anointed/chosen as a prophet/Christ). He then becomes the "One" as he gains his super human powers (the One is a title for God in theistic religions). I think in Revolutions Neo will complete his journey and cause a revolution against God(the Architect), him being Neo, The New God, which sounds a lot like the Anti-Christ. (I won't go into details now, but maybe I'll write essays on it later.) Also notice Neo's significant clothes in Matrix 2. He transformed from a cool tenchcoat wearing fighter in M1 to a priest in M2. His robe and collar look exactly like Catholic priests clothes, but his lacks the white collar and are designed for fighting. Again this sets Neo up as a holy(?) character.

Cipher is not only to encode something, but also to be unknowable, and is also defined as being something of no importance.
Merovingian- meaing of the line of Frankish kings founded by Clovis (481-511) and reigning in GAul and Germany until 752. Clovis gained independence of Gaul from Romans. (no idea how that one ties in.....)
Logos,(Niobi's ship) word of God, often called the second person of the Trinity.
Niobe, daughter of Tantalus, enraged Artemis and Apollo because she boaseted herself better than their mother LAtona, was eventually turned into a rock, her tears became streams that trickled down.
Seraph, one of the Seraphim from the bible,bdescribed as a living creature with 3 pairs of wings.
Neo, obviously means new, but is also used to decribe something found recently.
